In this video I show I forge my version of the forest axe.
I call it "Emtervik" and it is based on the classic Scandinavian design.
I have worked very hard to come up with a way to produce these axes. I still change the process almost every time I make them, always working to get the process better.

Snyggt handtag!
Love it! Very handsome axe, and the finish and texture in the handle is fabulous 👏🏼😁
Awsome video man! Viking throwing axe would be a great next build!

Many thanks!
Roligt att se fint hantverk 😊👍🏻👍🏻
I like the "set down" die on the press...
Looks pretty good. I see you've upgraded your workshop with some new power tools:)

Sangat menakjubkan karya anda.. sayang diindonesia mungkin tidak ada kapak yang seperti anda buat. beda model kapaknya. Salam
I've never seen charcoal being used as a lube for this work and will remember it - thank you! Lovely axe and I look forward to making one to take when we go bushcrafting. Presently we have covid, unable to do anything but watch and love your channel. -Wendi
Sorry to hear that, get well soon!
Wow, just awesome, it was about time😂😂. Great work!
Thanks!
mycket fin och detaljerad video. bra jobbat :)
Tackar!
Snyggt klippt film. Magiskt hantverk som vanligt. Känns som du kommit rätt i processen och stegen nu. Bra jobbat.
good👍
Maan Can you make Tuatahi racing stile axe?
Nice :-)
Hey from Nashville again! Hope the family is well! It’s been so amazing following your journey making axes! The quality of your video production and the process of how you make axes has really changed over time! All for the better! I had a question about the difference between forging a monosteel axe like this one and some of your early videos where you were folding them and using mild steel with high carbon cutting edges. Which do you like to do more? Do you enjoy the process of both?
Hello! I like both. When it comes to producing axes that I sell I lile the monosteel more since its easier to repeat and takes less time in my opinion. The folded axes are fun to dig into but making 5-10 a week would be very exhausting. So I try to balance it :) hope that helps
Wow ! What's that black burst at 1:21 ? The process is really smooth and makes axe making look easy (until you try by yourself :D) Great job ;)
Great axes. Is there any way of ordering? Thank you
Great axe. Is there a danger of the drift forge welding to the head when it gets that hot? Just saw a video from Fireball Tools about not doing such an aggressive cut with the angle grinder to make the discs last longer. Very interesting.
No as you saw it only got to about red heat. It wont get to welding temp without itself being in the forge.
Perfect work, perfect end. Ty.
Hej kommer du att ha fler av den här typen av yxor tillsalu? Är på jakt efter en bra yxa att ha när jag sågar virke. Skål från Gotland!
Incredible work! Can I ask what steel you used and the tempering process?
Its c45 and I tempered at about 200 C
@@nilsogren thank you!
Sick axe, dude! Maybe you could do something bigger than that in the future; like a huge-ass battle axe or something? #HoggvaMannOkAnnan
Do you use 1075 for the whole axe?
Beautiful work as always. Watching your videos always makes me want to go forge something of my own. I was always curious, why do smiths always tap their anvil between hammer strikes?
More than one reason. Some times its to keep the rythm. Swinging a hammer and the stopping mid air is exhausting therefore you let it fall on the anvil instead before the next hit. Hope that helps
@@nilsogren Been wondering about this as well. I thought another of the reasons might be to clear any debris from the hammer head itself. Got no clue about blacksmithing myself, but always interesting to see the process of making stuff like this ᛞ
@@nilsogren thank you for the explanation.
Well made axe, enjoyed watching the video 👍. That big anvil of yours is a beauty, I’d love to own one like it. How’s family life treating you? Sleepless nights and dirty nappies, ah….the joys of parenthood ! Regards from Down Under.
Family is great thank you very much!
How long does it take to make these?
Snyggt jobbat!
how do I order?
I only sell what I have in stock. You can find more info on my website www.nilsogren.com I laso have an email list & facebook group that get notified once I have axes in stock
Fin yxa
Tack!
0:19 Du är inte gift, va?
jo. hurså?
Why have your last few videos been so short? I want to more of the process not some fast paced rush of a project.
Thanks for the feedback. I am just testing different things to see what works best. Seems that my longer videos are doing a bit better than the shorter ones :)
@@nilsogren ever since I saw your very first video I've enjoyed watching how you forge and learning some of your tricks. Thank you.
I apriciate that! And once again, thanks for the feedback :)
I think your videos would be more engaging if you talk through the process instead of the text on screen explaining it
Vacker
Tack!
