Let his struggle be a lesson to us all
I love the deeper meanings of this animation, the characters were never Disney characters at all. It was all the result of the broken mind of a war veteran who had to live with a horrible mistake he made. His slow and steady fall into madness caused his sense of self and reality to blend with so many things he had seen before until he couldn’t tell the difference between the reality he’s trapped in and the fiction he watched as a kid. It was all a blur, a blur that only gained clarity when he realized and accepted his mistake and the way it affected everyone and himself
I was thinking exactly the same and was about to comment about it until I saw your post. Yes, the protagonist's mind is so broken he is replacing them with his childhood shows. It's sad. Tragic. And this just only shows the masterfully crafted work of art which is this video. and its prequel.
oo, personally i thought it was him de-humanizing himself, to lesten the burden
We shouldn't forget about the shot with the needle shown during the part where we can hear his 'interrogation' by (probably) the CIA. I understood it in the way that they gave him a max payne like serum that together with the 'interrogation' itself brainwashed him into seeing everybody as disney characters.
Oh Now it all makes Sense
People who struggle with the present and fear the future often cloister themselves in the past. Mickey here clad his own reality in better memories from childhood to make living more bearable.
11:22 I like how with everything Mickey says to the interrogator he immediately responds because it’s all expected but when he says goofy the interrogator pauses because he has to think about what he means
question for you, this is the most recent comment that I could find on this video. Does this correlate to what the video is talking about when it comes to MGS games? If so I 1000% want to play the games now. If not, do let me know. Thank you.

I just realized that the reason Mike/Micky saw everything as the cartoon and his reality was so distorted was because once he got back from his mission the CIA put him through MK-ULTRA to make sure he stayed quiet and genuinely believed in what he did. His lying and keeping the file was his psyche in some way absolutely refusing to believe that and refusing to let it go. His mind tried to crawl into his childhood, making everything a cartoon to cope, but it didn't work. No matter what he couldn't leave the war, couldn't leave what he did. Irregardless of how hard he tried.
Yeah. That's why while every else's person's face is distorted into a cartoon, "Mickey"'s face retains his old features.
In a way, it represents his illusion of duty to a country that never truly existed outside of his head.
The word is "regardless."
it's no coincidence that steam boat willie goes public and youtube recommends this video again
The worst punishment for Mickey was to not be punished at all
To live with his guilt yes

I will be so mad if Disney take this gem down it took a huge effort for the creators to make this and even if it is a meme you can't denie that the writing is amazingly good
Im waiting for Disney to claim this like Warner bros claimed wabbit season
One thing I just realized is that when the voice is asking him if he destroyed the documents, his voice flutters a little when he says "yes", unlike the monotone nature of all of his other answers. He kept the documents all that time, despite his orders to destroy them, because he couldn't bring himself to destroy the thing his best friend gave his life to protect. That's amazing storytelling right there in my opinion. It was only because he never destroyed the documents out of respect for his friend's determination that the only friend he had left gave up when he was forced to read them.
seems he had to fight truth serum through that too, basically rewire his brain into believing something else

My father was in Vietnam. I only found this out after he died. It cleared up a lot of his solitary quirks that I never understood when he was alive, and I wondered why he never told me himself… After seeing this video I can’t help but think: Perhaps it was because he was perpetually battling his own descent into madness, and none of us realized it at the time.
When war was war it must've been traumatising. When war is deception and dishonourable like it is today, it must be brain snappingly destructive to the psyche.
That’s deep man… Your dad fought for his country, whether or not it was for the wrong reasons. Wherever he is right now, Ik he’s proud of you. 👍

Its honestly insane, how war drove this man insane. To the point where he kills goofy. But watching as he slowly starts remembering reality. This was a man who was driven so mad, that everyone everything turned into cartoon characters. Or maybe, this was a way to tone it down. But the fact that before he was sounding like the actual mickey, but now, it's a whole different voice. It's just honestly insane what could happen to a man after he truly snaps.
My thoughts were so scattered because of how deep this is.
The fact that this man managed to create four memorable fleshed-out characters that are interesting and identifiable with, using fucking Disney cartoon characters no less, a premise that should be comedic (not gonna give away the twist), and putting them in a story that conveys the horrors of war, PTSD, and what it does to a person, all in 17 minutes is a phenomenal achievement. My only complaint is that this video is not a full-length movie. 9/10.

@@dickrichard626 I think this is just a classic case of people being different, having different views and conotations for quite literally everything. What is profound to one person is mundane to the next. As for the animation, I don't care about the work put into it. Everything we do only matters as much as its consequences, and the consequences of animating this video are a neat psychological story in my eyes. Still more work than some of the videos in my feed. Damn I need to get off of youtube.
@dickrichard626 You make a good point. There are some videos I love and some that I hate. I wish the youtube algorithm would change to get rid of stupid youtube videos like those cringe and childish animated SCP videos. I hate those, but at the same time, I enjoy youtube videos from dj Peach Cobbler because of the ideas he talks about. You might think that he is cringe, and I can not in good faith say that you are wrong. But presumably, people still enjoy this cringe induced content, and we should present our case, but also be prepared for people to reject it. One day, maybe people will understand how to make a world without cringe, but until that day comes, we will endure the chaos of creation. (Edit: i just realized I failed to address your main point. I will correct this in the morning.)

This guy profundizes on weird and surreal art, which means he's not interested in money, and genuinely makes things to improve his all-kinds of art (which goes from 2D, 2D with 3D-like features, 3D, you get it) Also... uhhh... what? You dont like new stuff because it's easier to make? What are you? An anti-technologist? Why would you not like things being easier? Although... i do get your point on things requiring less effort... but you still have to appreciate that art is becoming available to more people because of this. But like... This is completely hand made and doesnt use any CGI, voices are recorded and tested and music is produced by the creators. Although i dont know what you mean with this not making sense or not getting things straight since multiple war veterans or conscripts have visited the channel and OST, reporting that they took the story seriously and understood it. BUT, again, this means that this is content of a genre, implying that some people will love it and others despise it. Last drispoval of your point. How. How the hell is this for kids. It is very clear that this animation did not find it's correct public, and the posibility is that kids were attracted to this animation, somehow werent noticed by their patents, and did not get what it was about. KZhead just demonitized it. Seems like it's Canon now

Of all the shit that passes for entertainment these days, I'm so grateful for a honest, emotional, thought provoking, and excellently voice acted passion project.
I know it started as a meme but this is one of the most beautiful animations ive ever seen. I often come back to it. It makes me think a lot about accountability and guilt
Came out amazing dude! Thanks for letting me voice in this!
You did a pretty great job as Donald champ!
THAT WAS YOU??? YOU DID AMAZING MAN THAT WAS GREAT
Thanks papa meats and friends!
Yeah great collab my friend
Collab
Spoilers: When Goofy was revealed to be a human being, and the fact that he kinda looked like Shaggy, i was expecting to see Mickey morph into Scooby Doo just to add some new layer of mindfuckery to everything.
Lol
Me too lol
Yep, that guy totally looks like Shaggy. Was wondering how that was going to fit into this puzzle of a story haha
@@Dankalank isn't there a video about shaggy killing scooby in the Thing parody he made
I thought this also, I am glad that's not the direction they took with it, maybe it was intentional, to make us feel like it was cartoons all along only to pull the rug out from under us a second time.
I've watched this so many times and the backgrounds still amaze me. They're designed and shaded so well, and fit so well with the theme of each scene. It helps enhance the mood of the scene. Excellent work!
I'll always love the use of Mickey mouse to represent the "Mickey mouse" war that was fought for money and corporate interests.
Fun Fact: If this masterpiece gets taken down, then it’s canon

Oh shit, I love the twist of Mickey being MK-Ultra'd to forget what he saw, which broke his already damaged mind even more, causing it to take his memories of the Mickey Mouse cartoons he watched as a kid and conflate them with reality - which, in the end, made him hallucinate himself and others as Mickey Mouse characters. Great fucking work, Snake, cheers.
I love that twist
This is horrifying, completely horrifying. Good job with the story and animation Ethereal Snake , good job.
@@jacktobias6513 It is. My guess is that the government spooks tried to brainwash him into believing that the things he saw in 'Nam weren't real, only something he saw in a Mickey Mouse cartoon, but it ended up having the opposite effect - he still knew 'Nam was real, but now he thought the cartoons were real, too, causing him to imagine himself and his friends as Mickey Mouse characters.

I remember waiting for this to come out and being so hyped and when it eventually came out it was everything I expected and then some. I can’t believe this is almost 2 years old. How time flies.
I'm serious, not a single atom of sarcasm here. This is an actual masterpiece. Period. I've not been emotionally whiplashed like this for a very long time

Hi checkmark
yes
This is a piece of art ngl, i literally watch this all the time. Its a so complete work of art, you can literally "put yourself into the characters place" and feel what they feeling. Am not a depressed guy, but this can make me sad, teach me, even give me energy. It gives me goosebumps, make me think a lot on the Vietnam war, even made study more about it. Thanks for this masterpiece
You and your team did such a great job, I really love the music for the showdown it’s just soooo good
The fact that they were revealed as actual people. Incredible. The fucking storytelling is so insanely well made.
Suprised the fuck out of me but holy shit it was a good suprise
i saw it as a brain washing mechanic they(gov) used in order to hide evidence or to let mick or mitch or what ever his name is to live back into the country... or it could be a by-product of the things he saw as a kid and used it as a coping mechanism to deal with his own actions. but it will explain why out of all three characters, goofy was the moral beacon of the three, since he was a family man, it helps sell the story better than to establish a character background.
@@ramcode8714 I'm pretty sure it was a coping mechanism from the Disney cartoons he watched as a kid.
@@neurofiedyamato8763 There is literally a scene where he is shown to be injected with some drug and then mind-wiped

The fact, that they are real people instead of disney characters actually explains Mickeys realistic face. He ignores the memories and faces of the people he hurt, by replacing them with childhood memories, but no matter what, he can never truly forget his own actions, the man he has become. He tries but the sins of the past are always lurking in the background, never to be forgotten. What a masterpiece.
Holy crap, this level of comprehension is unfathomable. Take an upvote!
so true. This shows the devestating effects that war has on the mind, soul and body. as a man once said: "war is old men arguing and young men dying".
But you make it seem like he imagined himself as disney character on purpose. When I thought that he got brainwashed by the fbi because he knew to much
I like rats
Did you not see him get brainwashed
I watched this when it came out and this is the 10th time I go back to it and it still makes me cry like the first time.
Holy cow, this was incredible, every bit of it. Won my sub!
What hurt Mickey wasn’t Donald finding out that he’d had killed Goofy, but instead the realization that his past had caught up to him
@Frax yes, but he doesn’t get it. And it that realization, Mickey discovers that he’ll never get punished for his actioms
