I think it’s also given a lot of Asians (especially the older generation that did not grow up in a multicultural society) a better understanding of race relations and a better understanding of the struggles that Black Americans have to continue to endure. If anything I hope these times becomes a teachable moment for all.

This Asian thing just happened, blacks have been done worse for years. I never saw an Asian community protest for blacks like blacks are for your people. I know some may not like this comment it is the 100% truth. I have nothing against Asian people but my people and our issues come first. You all don’t fight our battles with us.

      @concernedcitizen4824@concernedcitizen48243 жыл бұрын
    • @Concerned Citizen Let me lay out the history of Asian-Black solidarity that you have discredited. The term “Asian American” was coined in 1968 by UC Berkeley students who were inspired by the Black Power Movement; likewise, Asian American students rallied alongside Black student organizers and other ethnic student groups as part of the Third World Liberation Front at San Francisco State and UC Berkeley in the late ’60s. Activists like Yuri Kochiyama and Grace Lee Boggs not only pulled insights from Black radical frameworks for Asian American liberation, but were also strong and active advocates for Black social justice movements. But this all broke down during the 1992 Los Angeles riot, when the black community targeted and destroyed half of Korean stores and businesses in the vicinity. So you ask why the Asians have been reluctant to stand up for the black community recently. My grandparents were permanently paralyzed during the 1992 riot by anti-Asian black hooliganism. But that doesn't stop me from supporting the black rights movement, because I understand that individuals don't generalize to the community. So fuck off with the "where were you." If you care more about your people, so be it. But don't come to a section dedicated to condemning Asian Hate Crime and discredit Asians supporting black rights. It only harms the black rights movement by painting it with your ignorance.

That’s how I feel.....so what....your grandparents went through some stuff, so did mine along with millions of other blacks. It’s true what I said, Asians as a whole have note helped blacks. You are talking out of emotion.....I clearly said I have nothing against Asian people but asked a question. But again, you might be one of the few that support blacks but don’t come on cursing because of a comment that was factual. So again, What your telling me about your grandparents......myself and 20 million other blacks can tell you about our grandparents. We’re use to it.....grow some tuff skin and do what we had to do. Learn how to have discussions without so much anger. You’re probably hurt but imagine how many others are hurt that don’t like like you. I see first hand how blacks are treated. Just so you know, Your president and Vice President immediately flew to Atalanta to speak on Asian hate.......but Biden has been in office for over 47yrs while blacks were being mistreated and he did nothing but support the crime bill. You don’t know my side of the story or my life. You just want yours heard because your people were hurt. 8 blacks were shot in the church, isn’t that hate? Grow up and go to anger management.

    • @@educationalrants6009 well KZhead deleted my comment to you earlier because they don’t like the truth. So let’s see if they take this. Let me start out by saying I have nothing against Asian people and I don’t like that that happen. You mention your grandparents.......my grandparents and great grandparents also went through a lot in this country. You’re not the only one who’s been through things. Asians as a whole treat blacks bad and that’s the truth. All your cursing is childish......you may be one of the few that help blacks but if you had dropped all your emotion, you would have seen where I said Asian community as a “WHOLE” which doesn’t include all Asians. Read carefully next time. So again, nothing against Asian people but I’m black and Ive seen a lot done to my people by Asians and whites. I have a right to question things and say what I want as long as it’s not racist. No body’s discrediting your grandparents or family personally. Look at the comments and you will see others saying similar things that Asians as a “WHOLE “ have their own agenda helping themselves. You have to be in my shoes to understand where I’m coming from and that goes for me as well. Nothing personal at a all. Have a better day and stop cursing like a sailor.

  • I love that this tnt panel had this discussion. The "classification" of brown people is one of the most divisive framing of "races". I think it would be a good first step to just start talking about systems that enhance the wealth gaps among all socioeconomic factors. For one, no one really talks about how expensive being poor is on your finances as well as your health regardless of your race. Focusing on brown vs white is so missing the point. One big problem with the term brown is the fact that it's a way that non-Europeans separate themselves from people of sub-saharan African descent.

  • Just want to put this out there and don’t be going on hating them. Elder Asians that are shop owners have been getting robbed since 1990s and it started a lot of turmoil, against black and Asian communities. So elders are being attacked because they are seen as “racist”. But a lot of the newer generation stands for Latin lives, black lives, etc any ethnic group that is being targeted we will stand for y’all, just hoping the same and we can stop all this hate. Love y’all 🤞🏽

  • The only thing constant is change. Our society in the US is ever-changing and the demographics and culture always changes over time. As small % ethnic groups grow in terms of population, contributions etc, so to does the awareness. We're at a crux in this nation, particularly w/ the Asian community at--the-moment, and this is a hard conversation and attention that needs to be had. Every group is important and hope that awareness for all marginalized groups have their voices heard (without violence being the catalyst). Nothing but love guys.

    • With allies like this the Asian community should strengthen our allyship with the Black community. Hopefully more Asians learn to undo and deal with our anti-Blackness. We should help use some of our privilege to help advance the Black community. Like become patrons to their businesses. You know what would be cool is if we help start a program to protect Black people and keep them safe.

Notice that there’s never been a segment on a show where they specifically talk about black hate crimes specifically (without using the black and brown trope), on a “mainstream” network. I’m glad black people have been calling this out unapologetically.
