That Rempe penalty was BS. The refs 100% just wanted to give him a penalty early no matter what to try and stop him from getting into his antics.

Terrible call, and I say that even as someone who thinks his regular season stuff should have gotten him a sizable suspension since he was clearly just trying to injure players with no interest in actually making a play out of it. Funny how he wasn't called for blatant charging in the regular season but now gets called for a weak if awkward hit in the first game of the playoffs. Classic NHL officiating.

Yup. Gary Bettman called it in ahead of time you can bet. Caps fans complained about the officiating despite having a 4-3 edge in PP's and their only netting 21 SOG (about 15 through the first 50 minutes)

Any other Rangers fans? 1. Don’t underestimate the Caps.. but if they think an all D approach is going to hold the Rangers for seven games. They’re just conceding the series. They still got Ovi and a few weapons but anyways, what I wanted to ask you guys is.. Assuming we take care of business, I’m not loving our odds against either the canes or Isles … I mean, of course I’ll take the Islanders over the Canes, but both either of these teams are trouble.. especially the Canes who are probably the best team in the league when it comes to stamping out talent, and now they picked up a couple new weapons. I mean it would be close against the canes, but they gotta have the edge so my hope is at the Islanders and canes go seven brutal games..

As a caps fan, we are so screwed. Our players look like they are trying to skate through quicksand compared to the Rangers. Our only shots come from the outside and Ovi is a shell of his former self-you dont even hear his name unless its a powerplay. We may win one game if Lindgren steals one but good series Rangers. Any caps fan blaming this game on penalty calls or lack of calls is just delusional. The Rangers are just so much better as a team.

This series should not be close. Washington, with their 40 wins in 82 games and -37 differential is absolutely no match for the President's trophy winners. Caps have a dinosaur roster, they had three players with over 40 points, Rangers had four players with over 70 points, and Rangers have the edge in goaltending. Rangers need to finish it in 5 games or less. I'll be generous and say Washington gets 1 game at home and the Rangers finish off the gentleman's sweep in game 5 at MSG. This series going to 6 or 7, even if the Rangers prevail, would be a disappointment as they likely have the mighty Hurricanes waiting after this, who nearly passed them in the standings.

Bully wouldn’t be a word I’d use here, definitely had me worried a couple times with some turnovers in bad spots, but yeah the caps really just did nothing offensively. Credit to Washington for playing a quality defensive game though made it tough for our offense and did get some bad luck with a couple injuries on goals. Just need to finish them off unlike last year where we just let the devils get to their game and ended up losing that series. If the effort is there all series this should be a sweep.

The Rangers did get away with borderline penalties on the second and third goals, but those are probably just penalties in October, not in April. So bullying is a good word to use. If Wilson knocked a guy out of the game by checking him into the boards like that, everyone would be calling for him to be suspended. But that play is probably just a 2 minute boarding call in the regular season, and usually not going to be called in the playoffs. Still wouldn't stop people from calling for a suspension for Wilson, especially given his history with the Rangers. The Capitals' offense is really poor. Their method of winning is scoring first, and then turtling and winning 2-1 or 3-2. That's why their goal differential is so poor. I could see them winning once or twice this way, but definitely not four times. Ovechkin will play better for the rest of the series, he's going to hit the net on his shot attempts more often. He'll score more, and the Capitals will score more. Lindgren might steal them a couple of games when they score 2 or 3 (which is more than the 1 they scored tonight). The Rangers were a bit lucky to get 4 tonight. But they didn't need 4 tonight, and there should be a bunch of times this series where they won't need to score 4 times to win. This will probably be a low scoring series, with the Rangers content to play the Capitals' style of hockey, because the Rangers can and will beat the Capitals at the Capitals' style of hockey.

The laf hit isn’t boarding, literally a shoulder to shoulder hit. It’s on Iorio to protect himself and be prepared for a hit on any part of the ice. Wilson had his fair share of late hits in this game too that weren’t called. The third goal was just the guy running straight into rempe who barely moved after the face off and didn’t even look in that direction when he was turning. Neither was borderline or a penalty.

All the Caps did was cycle the puck around the boards in the offensive zone. It's pretty hard to score from against the wall. It was really frustrating to watch. Should have been a boarding call on #13 before the Rangers' second goal btw.

This was the worst refed game of the playoffs so far. Every tiny thing was called in the first period. After that, anything goes apparently and nothing was called. It was a crap game to watch too.

This year, there isn’t any super dominant team, it’s a toss up when it comes to who’s winning the cup. There are 8 to 9 teams that could go all the way…it’s that close. Doesn’t matter if the west is way deeper, it’s the top team from the west vs the top team from the east. The east only needs one good team 😂 Maybe that’s a good thing for the eastern team. The west teams will beat each other up so bad that they will be worn out in the cup finals. Where as the east team will have a relatively easier path to the finals and might be fresher and less beat down giving them the leg up in the finals.

the Capitals are one of the worst teams in the entire league by just about every metric (except the one that gets you in the playoffs, points). this is neither surprising nor impressive. and the Rangers are being done no favors, everyone else is playing playoff rounds, they're getting a bye vs a practice team. will they be able to match the intensity of the next round opponent?

The reason us Caps fans are pissed/annoyed is because Rempe's goal was pure luck, and for all the penalties they called in the first that were weak (including Rempe's penalty) both of the 2nd and 3rd Rangers goals should have been a penalty, or at least Iorio's since he got injured. The NHL needs to fix the reffing problem because jesus it makes no sense.

Calling for a penalty on the 3rd goal is MAYBE an argument. Strong maybe. It happened fast and looked a lot more like 2 players running into each other than anything else. But the 2nd goal? What are you smoking? Your guy gets knocked down like a little boy on a big hit and your first thought is, "oh must be a penalty"? Do yourself a favor and watch a different sport.

Calgary’s first goal of the playoffs! And Makar got Calgary’s second goal of the playoffs a little later on. Hopefully Point can score a goal for us in game 2 against the Cats.
Just like when Tanner Glass scored the first goal of the first round back in 2017 at Montreal, and it held up as the game winner.

That Rempe penalty was BS. The refs 100% just wanted to give him a penalty early no matter what to try and stop him from getting into his antics.
Terrible call, and I say that even as someone who thinks his regular season stuff should have gotten him a sizable suspension since he was clearly just trying to injure players with no interest in actually making a play out of it. Funny how he wasn't called for blatant charging in the regular season but now gets called for a weak if awkward hit in the first game of the playoffs. Classic NHL officiating.

Yup. Gary Bettman called it in ahead of time you can bet. Caps fans complained about the officiating despite having a 4-3 edge in PP's and their only netting 21 SOG (about 15 through the first 50 minutes)

caps only play defense and can't score. all the games they win is like 1-0 or 2-1. thats why their goal differential is so bad, cuz the occasionally blow out games. but still they are a better team than they seem

As a caps fan, we are so screwed. Our players look like they are trying to skate through quicksand compared to the Rangers. Our only shots come from the outside and Ovi is a shell of his former self-you dont even hear his name unless its a powerplay. We may win one game if Lindgren steals one but good series Rangers. Any caps fan blaming this game on penalty calls or lack of calls is just delusional. The Rangers are just so much better as a team.

This series should not be close. Washington, with their 40 wins in 82 games and -37 differential is absolutely no match for the President's trophy winners. Caps have a dinosaur roster, they had three players with over 40 points, Rangers had four players with over 70 points, and Rangers have the edge in goaltending. Rangers need to finish it in 5 games or less. I'll be generous and say Washington gets 1 game at home and the Rangers finish off the gentleman's sweep in game 5 at MSG. This series going to 6 or 7, even if the Rangers prevail, would be a disappointment as they likely have the mighty Hurricanes waiting after this, who nearly passed them in the standings.

Bully wouldn’t be a word I’d use here, definitely had me worried a couple times with some turnovers in bad spots, but yeah the caps really just did nothing offensively. Credit to Washington for playing a quality defensive game though made it tough for our offense and did get some bad luck with a couple injuries on goals. Just need to finish them off unlike last year where we just let the devils get to their game and ended up losing that series. If the effort is there all series this should be a sweep.
The Rangers did get away with borderline penalties on the second and third goals, but those are probably just penalties in October, not in April. So bullying is a good word to use. If Wilson knocked a guy out of the game by checking him into the boards like that, everyone would be calling for him to be suspended. But that play is probably just a 2 minute boarding call in the regular season, and usually not going to be called in the playoffs. Still wouldn't stop people from calling for a suspension for Wilson, especially given his history with the Rangers. The Capitals' offense is really poor. Their method of winning is scoring first, and then turtling and winning 2-1 or 3-2. That's why their goal differential is so poor. I could see them winning once or twice this way, but definitely not four times. Ovechkin will play better for the rest of the series, he's going to hit the net on his shot attempts more often. He'll score more, and the Capitals will score more. Lindgren might steal them a couple of games when they score 2 or 3 (which is more than the 1 they scored tonight). The Rangers were a bit lucky to get 4 tonight. But they didn't need 4 tonight, and there should be a bunch of times this series where they won't need to score 4 times to win. This will probably be a low scoring series, with the Rangers content to play the Capitals' style of hockey, because the Rangers can and will beat the Capitals at the Capitals' style of hockey.
The laf hit isn’t boarding, literally a shoulder to shoulder hit. It’s on Iorio to protect himself and be prepared for a hit on any part of the ice. Wilson had his fair share of late hits in this game too that weren’t called. The third goal was just the guy running straight into rempe who barely moved after the face off and didn’t even look in that direction when he was turning. Neither was borderline or a penalty.

All the Caps did was cycle the puck around the boards in the offensive zone. It's pretty hard to score from against the wall. It was really frustrating to watch. Should have been a boarding call on #13 before the Rangers' second goal btw.

This year, there isn’t any super dominant team, it’s a toss up when it comes to who’s winning the cup. There are 8 to 9 teams that could go all the way…it’s that close. Doesn’t matter if the west is way deeper, it’s the top team from the west vs the top team from the east. The east only needs one good team 😂 Maybe that’s a good thing for the eastern team. The west teams will beat each other up so bad that they will be worn out in the cup finals. Where as the east team will have a relatively easier path to the finals and might be fresher and less beat down giving them the leg up in the finals.
I'd even root for the no skill head hunters like Jason trouba and the rangers if it means Tom Wilson's season is over.

The reason us Caps fans are pissed/annoyed is because Rempe's goal was pure luck, and for all the penalties they called in the first that were weak (including Rempe's penalty) both of the 2nd and 3rd Rangers goals should have been a penalty, or at least Iorio's since he got injured. The NHL needs to fix the reffing problem because jesus it makes no sense.
