    • Battle Royale philosophy: life is about competing to survive, our true nature is dog eats dog, and you lazy millenials need to realise this for your own good. Hunger games philosophy: competition for survival is a tool of control the upper class uses to keep the lower classes fighting each other instead of overthrowing their true oppressors. We need to STOP fighting each other and unite against our TRUE enemies, the wealthy who don’t see a problem with a small group profiting from the work of the many. The two films are COMPLETELY different in what they are trying to say. Kids killing each other is the only thing they have in common.

It's had a huge impact on 21st-century popular culture, from movies like Kill Bill and Hunger Games, to anime like Fate/Stay Night and Sword Art Online, to video games like PUBG and Fortnite. • _"Blu-Ray Trailer"_ *Highest resolution: 480p*

    @KingAdrock420@KingAdrock4204 жыл бұрын
    • You misunderstood the full concept of Blu-Ray. Movies can be considered Blu-Ray even in 720p or 1080p so there aren't really an actual quality to it. So even though the movie quality is 480p, it would be fitting to classify it under Blu-Ray. I'll give you a better example. 480p = 10 pixels 720p = 15 pixels 1080p = 22 pixels If a movie was created in the 90s accordingly, the quality would never passed more than 480p because of its limitation in pixels. And if another movie was created today, the quality would be able to reach 1080p seeing how there are more pixels. So when you convert these two to Blu-Ray, the first movie would be in 480p and the second in 1080p. Simple as that.

      @poppopp2700@poppopp27004 жыл бұрын
    • @@poppopp2700 No, you're wrong on several counts. While 480 was the only resolution in the 90's and earlier, that's simply what was shown on your TV screen. The only way one can be "stuck" at a certain resolution is if the source is digital. TV or movies shot on film don't have a specific resolution, and that includes basically everything from the 20th century. When it's converted to digital, the resolution will simply be whatever resolution you set the digital transfer to be. Hence there are endless older films and tv shows which have been remastered and can now be enjoyed in HD, despite them pre-dating high definition technology. I wasn't saying it's not *possible* for a Blu-Ray to be in 480p, my point was that it would be pointless and stupid to do so. It would look essentially no better than a DVD. Only an idiot would do a Blu-Ray re-release and not remaster the film quality for high definition. More importantly, the clip specifically says "Blu-Ray Trailer HD". Yet it is NOT HD. I completely stand behind my riffing because whoever made this video deserves it.

      @KingAdrock420@KingAdrock4204 жыл бұрын
    • @@KingAdrock420 The video title doesn't have HD in it actually. And two, you have to accept the fact that a blu-ray release doesn't necessarily mean the movie will look great because they are not simply shot the same way movies are made today.

That plus the perfectly timed music plus the bleak environment plus the suddenness of everything PLUS the emotions of the characters made for a really great film! The lighthouse scene explains it all: One minute they were all friends full of hope that they'd escape, the next minute were at each others throats over the smallest suspicion! Another way to tell a film is good is when it spend almost the whole movie developing a character to be the 'bad guy' but then you're made to feel bad for them when they die!

HG is set in post apocalyptic north America this is set in an alternate timeline of a not to distant japan. while the same sort of theme of pitting children against each other is the same the reasoning is very different. Another major difference is the tributes vs the kids in BR. In HG the tributes have a little bit of time to train and come up with strategy and or teams. Also tributes in HG are televised and the entire population Is forced to watch them as punishment for rebellion so many years ago. So yes some same themes and general ideas are shared overall they are different.

      @tomsandstrom338@tomsandstrom33810 жыл бұрын
    • tom sandström I have never seen Hunger Games so can't make a strong comparison. But in this film the characters knew each other long before the movie's beginning (they were all school mates). This I think is one reasons the movie is so good, you feel like the class-mate bonds (a totally unique bond in my opinion) are really strong and seeing them put under strain is really emotional. The movie focuses a lot on love but it never feels like a teen-romance movie but it doesn't feel like it's forcing itself to act mature either. And the whole film is certainly really emotional, it isn't just black and white it has everything, the parts where suspicion and paranoia overcome sanity, are really touching. Seeing a crazed psycho and realising that underneath they are lost and lonely child that just wanted respect, is also really sentimental. I hope I haven't spoilt anything or hyped it up too much. But when the movie ended, I thought it was brilliant and wanted to watch it again instantly. If you do choose to see it, I hope you enjoy it as much as me.

It was able to compress an insainly wordy book(the characters detail everything about themselves and there thoughts on their experiences. the book is very blunt and straight forward with out anything left up to the imagination) into a fast pace action filled drama that let most of the talking be done with the charachters expression and actions. • I'm 15 and female and literally the only Battle Royale fan among my friends. Whenever I mention Battle Royale, they start rambling on about The Hunger Games. When I even said to them, "Am I the only one who doesn't really like The Hunger Games?", they immediately began gasping and saying, "How could you not like it?" and whatnot. It makes me feel bad coz I've seen the film version and currently reading the manga and novel of Battle Royale and I have to say, the story is so much more gripping than The Hunger Games. It has struck me emotionally and the use of psychological elements make it worth turning the page over and over. The harshness of human nature is brilliantly explored. With that said, I don't mind The Hunger Games, I only read/watched it because of it's rise in popularity, but it wasn't the book/movie for me; I could hardly feel the characters and didn't even like Katniss at certain points, the love triangle almost destroyed it for me but I kept my patience until the end. I also read Catching Fire and thought it was much better but gave up after chapter 5 of Mockingjay. I do hope there are other teenage fans of Battle Royale but if not then I will still treasure it by my heart.

    • @@NumaanTahir My response is still "so". I've had friends who played Fortnite, PUBG, and H1z1 game and then watched this. None of them thought it was based on it since the movie is on Netflix they can see right there the movie came out around 19990/2000. And the film isn't based on an anime from the 90s. The film is based on the novel. The novel wasn't based on an anime either. The novel was completed in 1996 and published in 1999. If anything it was inspired by Lord of the Flies or other novels of that nature. But it wasn't based on any anime. Anybody with an internet connection and a higer IQ of a 5 year old could see it wasn't based on any of the games, and even if they assumed it was, who cares. Its a great movie and if people decide to watch it after playing a game, then so be it.

Not to mention this wasn't an international release. Some of you people didn't know what this movie was either, just bandwagoning. There is a reason why this movie had been banned in numerous countries. It's sick and twisted. I can't believe people are actually asking "why couldn't HG be like this?". Why would it? This movie is over the limit of the usual R rating.

    • As an author, do you really think she never looked up other dystopian novels? That she literally had no inspiration from something, especially something like Battle Royale (which hunger games is literally a watered down, more sci-fi version of), that is such a cult classic? I don't know if she intended to copy Battle Royale or not, none of us do, but I really think it's a straight up lie that she's never heard of something almost exactly like her plot and in the same genre, and even noted by someone like Quentin Tarantino as his favorite movie of all time. If you can all this sick and twisted, how is the Hunger Game not? How is The Lord of the Flies not? Kids killing kids is not a new concept and no matter how it's done, it's always going to be twisted. That's why people like it, though.

    • ari elle How is Battle Royalle a cult classic? Up until this point I've never heard of it, not even in anime, which I'm heavy on. The film was banned from major coutries. Battle Royalle being Tarantino's favorite movie of all time is an opinion. Doesn't make it so. Yes the whole concept isn't new, but it doesn't mean that Collins was inspired by Battle Royalle. Kids killing kids is sick and twisted with anything. Not just Battle Royalle. The difference though is Lord of Flies made sense, Hunger Games made sense, Battle Royalle made no sense.

    • Supre3m3Kai are you freaking kidding me? Do you even know what a cult classic is? Battle Royale was a best seller in Japan, it's country of origin, and is still very popular for a book translated out of Japanese and sold in other languages. The movie was a hit too. Hunger Games is a fad but Battle Royale is, as the preview puts it, a "modern classic". The following is HUGE. I know people who are not into japanese culture AT ALL who would die by the book tbh. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't have a rather large fanbase. And Battle Royal didn't make sense? The movie and the book are separate entities. In the movie the fascist government wants to terrorize the youth who are engulfed in delinquency by taking 8th grade classes to an island and telling them to kill each other off. That doesn't make sense? In the book the totalitarian government of Greater East Asia is just hosting a game for the enjoyment of high ranking government officials and rich people who make bets on who they think will win ect. (Sound like Hunger Games much?) That doesn't make sense? Okay.
