"One" is a song by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released as the third single from their fourth studio album, "...And Justice for All" (1988). It's known for its powerful lyrics, which were inspired by Dalton Trumbo's novel "Johnny Got His Gun" and its subsequent film adaptation. The song explores themes of war, trauma, and isolation, with its haunting melody and intense instrumentation capturing the emotional weight of its subject matter. "One" remains one of Metallica's most iconic and enduring songs, often cited as a classic in the heavy metal genre.

I was Belgian Soldier in Afghan War in 2003 and 2006. These song make me think about my brothers in arms!! Respect for all soldier who give his life for Peace!!!
From one soldier to another I share your grief I lost brothers as well, I lost my best friend in Desert Storm. Keep heart brother, we will see them again someday on the other side ❤
Amen.
It’s just a pity that you didn’t carry and bring peace there, unlike the Soviet soldier, who not only fought the Mujahideen, but also built roads, hospitals, schools, helped develop agriculture, and did not protect the production of heroin and drug trafficking. This, of course, is not a complaint against ordinary soldiers - it is clear that this is the work of politicians and big business, but it would not hurt for ordinary soldiers to have some awareness. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my words.
I hope that you are doing well, sir. Love from the U.S. ❤
@@lem01ne Thanks buddy! The situation to which my country and the neighboring republics, fragments of my big homeland, have slipped can hardly be called good. This is what I watched as a child on Soviet television in exposé reports about Western imperialism. Just like the marches of Western nationalists (read Nazis), which I saw in Ukraine and which are raising their heads in Russia. Can this be called good? Hardly... But nevertheless, the soldiers will fight and hate each other. And these will be, for the most part, people from poor and low-income strata who have absolutely nothing to share among themselves - be it Russian, Ukrainian, Arab, European, Israeli, American or anyone else. NOTHING!
Here’s what I love as much as this song. Reactors like you are learning that Metal music isn’t just devil-worshipping bullcrap. The lyrics are deep, meaningful, and full of passion. Finally Metal music lovers are beginning to be understood. Thank you! As a matter of fact… I can’t think of any Metal band that are legitimate Devil worshiworshippers.

He was blown up and has no hearing, speech or vision along with no arms or legs. He is waking up to realize what has happened, is trying to emotionally absorb this, and tries to figure out how to communicate. He remembers the Morse code and tries to say kill me. As this is going on the intensity is building as his awareness of his situation increases along with his desperation which is finalized in the guitar solo. Then when the nurse tries to grant his request and is interrupted, he accepts his fate and the music moves to his feelings of total isolation (as in lyrics, "Now the worlds is gone, I'm just one").
A heavy metal masterpiece
Welcome to the Metallica Family
This was my first Metallica experience as a teenager watching it on MTV in the 90s. Few songs have ever impacted me harder. Now thirty years later as a Veteran who has fought in a war I am truly thankful for not have had such a fate.
This song and video were groundbreaking at the time. Saw this tour live at Riverbend Cincinnati 89'. The cult sonic temple opened up. Unreal. 🤘
That is most definitely my favorite Metallica song and it sounds so great live!
The film featured is Johnny Got His Gun.
Metallica has written on this subject before with a song called Disposable Heros. Great reatction brother! Thank you.
“One” is a masterpiece. The video along with the amazing song is probably the greatest and most intense piece of media ever created. I get chills every time I see it........
Landmine has taken my sight, Tacken my speech, Taken my hearing, Taken my arms, Taken my legs, Taken my soul, Left me with a life in HELLLLLLL.

THE UNTOUCHABLES…..🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Imagine being injured so bad that you're hooked up to machienes. That is my nightmare& why I have a living will. I won't be hooked up on machienes to live.
These are scenes from a movie called Johnny Got His Gun. The band actually bought the rights to the film so they could use it anytime they wanted without having to pay royalties.
Couldn't be a more agonizing anti-war song! The most powerful one I've ever heard. I cry Everytime i hear this song! You can hear his pure agony through the guitar solo. Such a powerful song! War is horrific period! How much they dismissed his life is Brutal! Welcome to the Metallica family btw. 🤘😊
You MUST check out "Creeping Death", "For whom the bell tolls"

The story is of a soldier that has come home after stepping on a landmine and losing his arms, legs, eyes, hearing and voice. It's like he is a living piece of meat that goes on living and he just wants anyone to kill himself and put him out of his misery and suffering
I would love to see you do a reaction to the entire album "Abigail" from King Diamond. I guarantee you will fall in love with the music. The vocals are something you probably have never anything like before, but they are amazing as well. It is a concept album that tells a story from start to finish so that is why I suggested you do the entire album. Another great concept album is Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime". Great music and amazing vocals on it also.
love it - please do Metallica Disposable Heroes - and epic 8 minute long anti war song
I have also seen the decision to remove life support destroy families. Relationshps, emotionally& financially.. It's awful

He couldn't hear, speak, smell or see He also had no arms or legs.
the bankers always win
I wish ppl would stop reacting to the music video for this song. It takes ALOT of attention off the music because they focus on the visuals instead.
Thrash metal was built on politics. Right from Black Sabbath with War Pigs on down. Their ...And Justice For All album was full of political stuff. Even their title track ...And Justice rails against the unfair justice machine that crushes those without the means to fight. Even today this album proves these same political points exists from 1988 till today.
