"One" is a song by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released as the third single from their fourth studio album, "...And Justice for All" (1988). It's known for its powerful lyrics, which were inspired by Dalton Trumbo's novel "Johnny Got His Gun" and its subsequent film adaptation. The song explores themes of war, trauma, and isolation, with its haunting melody and intense instrumentation capturing the emotional weight of its subject matter. "One" remains one of Metallica's most iconic and enduring songs, often cited as a classic in the heavy metal genre.

    • It’s just a pity that you didn’t carry and bring peace there, unlike the Soviet soldier, who not only fought the Mujahideen, but also built roads, hospitals, schools, helped develop agriculture, and did not protect the production of heroin and drug trafficking. This, of course, is not a complaint against ordinary soldiers - it is clear that this is the work of politicians and big business, but it would not hurt for ordinary soldiers to have some awareness. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my words.

    • @@lem01ne Thanks buddy! The situation to which my country and the neighboring republics, fragments of my big homeland, have slipped can hardly be called good. This is what I watched as a child on Soviet television in exposé reports about Western imperialism. Just like the marches of Western nationalists (read Nazis), which I saw in Ukraine and which are raising their heads in Russia. Can this be called good? Hardly... But nevertheless, the soldiers will fight and hate each other. And these will be, for the most part, people from poor and low-income strata who have absolutely nothing to share among themselves - be it Russian, Ukrainian, Arab, European, Israeli, American or anyone else. NOTHING!

  • Here’s what I love as much as this song. Reactors like you are learning that Metal music isn’t just devil-worshipping bullcrap. The lyrics are deep, meaningful, and full of passion. Finally Metal music lovers are beginning to be understood. Thank you! As a matter of fact… I can’t think of any Metal band that are legitimate Devil worshiworshippers.

  • He was blown up and has no hearing, speech or vision along with no arms or legs. He is waking up to realize what has happened, is trying to emotionally absorb this, and tries to figure out how to communicate. He remembers the Morse code and tries to say kill me. As this is going on the intensity is building as his awareness of his situation increases along with his desperation which is finalized in the guitar solo. Then when the nurse tries to grant his request and is interrupted, he accepts his fate and the music moves to his feelings of total isolation (as in lyrics, "Now the worlds is gone, I'm just one").

  • The story is of a soldier that has come home after stepping on a landmine and losing his arms, legs, eyes, hearing and voice. It's like he is a living piece of meat that goes on living and he just wants anyone to kill himself and put him out of his misery and suffering

  • I would love to see you do a reaction to the entire album "Abigail" from King Diamond. I guarantee you will fall in love with the music. The vocals are something you probably have never anything like before, but they are amazing as well. It is a concept album that tells a story from start to finish so that is why I suggested you do the entire album. Another great concept album is Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime". Great music and amazing vocals on it also.

  • Thrash metal was built on politics. Right from Black Sabbath with War Pigs on down. Their ...And Justice For All album was full of political stuff. Even their title track ...And Justice rails against the unfair justice machine that crushes those without the means to fight. Even today this album proves these same political points exists from 1988 till today.
