  • I've lived and fished here for 50 years. Thanks for expressing the frustration we feel about the decline of our waterways and local marine environment. The grass beds in my beloved North Biscayne Bay are basically dead. Even the keys and florida bay are not the same. Poor job by our state managing the water flow from Okeechobee, giving in to special interests for decades, and underestimating the real value that recreational fishing brings to our area. Sadly, my kids have learned that one good fish makes a successful trip nowadays. Wasn't that long ago that i was having one legendary day after the next with Capt Bouncer Smith, or fishing successfully with my dad in the Bay. And even then, we practiced catch and release, only occasionally harvesting a few eating fish for dinner. Our grassroots movement banned the inshore nets in the late 90s, and bought us a few decades, but we can't overcome millions of gallons of fresh water re-routed every day from the needed natural flow through the southern half of the state.

  • amazing how at around 6:16, camera man got that mullet jumping out if the water, getting chased by the tarpon. That shot makes me feel like I'm there.

  • Quality Inshore fishing is good as gone in Tampa, it’s getting bad everywhere. We need people to speak up for the fish

  • Yeah it’s sad, for a state built on water activities. We sure have done a great job polluting and damaging our water ways. In my area of Florida we can’t even catch or keep redfish anymore because we crashed the population by exterminating the sea grass

  • It pains me to watch FL be suffocated by development. Our state and local politicians will sacrifice every piece of green and blue in this state for the betterment of their bank account. It’s become so expensive to live here due to the influx of people, that fl natives can barely afford to exist here anymore. Everyone wants a piece of paradise, but at what cost? Been watching you for over a decade. Keep doin what you’re doin brother.

  • Commercial fishing companies were exporting hundreds of thousands of pounds of mullet from Sarasota area to Vietnam, etc. Mullet is/was food source for other fish. If all the mullet are commercially harvested, what is going to make more mullet? And if there is no feed, what happens to the predator fish?? Pollution and over-development are major problems. So is commercial overfishing fishing.

  • Sad to see ecosystems and waterways deteriorated by progress and development; couldn't we have the progress and development AND keep the waterways vital? I guess it would cost a little more money so never mind. Capt Jeff has my greatest respect. Look back at the record and there have been people speaking out against this stuff forever; remember environmentalists and community organizers? Losers. I'm from San Francisco and as a kid I'd see big salmon swimming up the creek in Muir Woods. Now there numbers are decimated up and down the west coast. Remember the salmon ladders, fish counts, and fish protection money? Should we just be thankful that all those damns and paved rivers solved the states water problems? The motto of the Army Corps of Engineers is "Let Us Try." And try they did. When the wetland gets paved over a lot of lives get lost, whole communities of plants and animals. Take it from the man.

  • There needed to be state regulations on building development. These luxury garbage towers on the beach need to pay a premium every year to the state for water and nature restoration. We need these aholes to pay a large fee to clean and help fix our ecosystem.
