Also, as @Frisky D. said, there are games like Spelunky 2 and Minecraft in which the worlds are randomly generated, making such tricks much rarer. I definitely recommend that you give speedrunning a try.

The tricks aren't even necessarily "difficult" - they can be done relatively consistently - they're just so absurdly precise that you must follow the setup input perfectly or it will not work.

      @crispymartyr@crispymartyr9 ай бұрын
    • Most AAA studios nowadays seem to be working under the mentality that they should release the game as soon as it enters the realm of "technically working", with not much regard to polish or quality assessment, which I'd imagine lends itself well to glitches. Of course this is a gross generalization and not all big games or companies fall under this, but it is a trend that I've noticed.

  • As I was watching this, so many tricks came to my mind. Almost all of it seems impossible to me, but there are several tricks that I've added to my arsenal over the years. For instance, I had no idea how to beat the boss rush towards the end of Shovel Knight in New Game+. For context, you have to beat all the bosses in the game in a row with no health items. After watching the AGDQ run, I mimicked the runner and ended up beating it after a few tries. I've also learned Castlevania, Super Metroid, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls speedrunning tricks over the years, since I play those games near annually. This was a lot of text just to say, you guys should make a video about the easiest or most accessible tricks. I think that would be cool.

  • I think werster’s HGSS all gold prints run deserves to be somewhere in the hardest trick. It would seem only he has done runs in that category, but his character movements and his personal actions he devised for the run require near perfect execution to maintain RNG manipulation for a large majority of the battle frontier. The craziest part of the run to me is around 8 hours in to his world record video. He has to do 49 battles for one of the prints, and there’s a modifier you can roll before each battle that can make the fight harder or easier, which occurs by pressing the right one as it scrolls through a bunch of different options. Not all must be perfectly selected, but at least half of these modifiers need to be perfect or else he can lose the run. Over 8 hours in. It’s wild to me.

The most fun glitches I ever experienced are in the gen 1 and 4 pokemon games and Mario 64. If anyone ever wants to try out glitches, I recommend these games. The glitches are easy, harmless and a lot of fun, but the games also contain harder to perform stuff if you want more

  • Well done video sir, a little surprised we didn't see any entries for Super Metroid in here. Many of the maneuvers used require "pixel-perfect" (or very close to it) execution and a theoretical "perfect run" requires you to do a lot of them throughout the whole run consistently without screwing anything up going full throttle for over 40 minutes (WR is just under 41 minutes). In comparison it's similar to attempting a carpetless but... you have to do that 4 times throughout the run in different places, plus all these other unforgiving tricks in-between. Also would love to see you do a vid on "unique" runs that don't fall under the main speedrun categories such as the "pacifist" run for Castlevania SotN and "reverse boss order" for Super Metroid. Those just boggle my mind that anybody ever figured out that it 'can' be done, and then went through the trouble of actually doing it.

You know one day someone's gonna load up stream and say "I'm gonna grind it out. I'm gonna be the first person to [game]'s [category] speedrun with *[impossible trick]* no matter what!" 4,000 attempts later (let's HOPE it's only 4,000) they get it and then over the next month, everyone's doing it and soon it's just... part of the run.

  • I don't count accidental one-off non-reproducable tricks as "speedrunning tricks" so much as flukes, so stuff like bit flipping don't count for me unless a speedrunner has done it deliberately. With that criteria, the hardest trick in speedrunning that I know of is the "Grand Memory Clobber" in Dragon View. It's been done deliberately by a human, so it counts as a "speedrunning trick", but it can't be reproduced in TAS, because it's so unlikely and not well understood.

  • In New super mario bros wii a skip has been recently discovered in 3-4 allowing you to reach the normal exit without hitting the red switch on the world map, allowing you to skip the rest of 3-4, 3-5, hitting the switch and playing 3-4 again, potentially saving upwards of 3 minutes in cannonless. Sadly the skip is ridiculously impossible, two setups have been discovered, one involving using three players simultaneously and standing on ice blocks on each other's heads, and another involving carrying over koopas from earlier parts of the level, and then doing multiple back to back air enemy freezes with the penguin suit, and both of these setups have only been proven to be possible with tas.

  • I'm surprised Dragon view's "Grand memory Clobber" wasn't mentioned. It requires a deathless, saveless play-through of about 45% of the game. The first Boss, Piercia (a giant scorpion) has a bug in her death animation which dirties up a byte in memory, which isn't cleared. This dirtied byte is the catalyst for what causes the glitch, and is cleaned up upon reloading from a save, which means you only get one life per attempt. after you defeat a boss later on, you are go into a room and greeted by dragon spirits of some kind... except that they use that dirtied byte, and all hell breaks loose. the game will glitch up tremendously. you could wind up back in the first town with 0 HP, dying as soon as you exit your items menu. You could end up with a black screen with the game LITERALLY laughing at you. and since you lose control, you cannot retry this, since you have no save file, and even if you did, that dirtied byte would clear up, meaning you only got ONE shot at this, before restarting. but if everything ends up right, you can get the credits. fair warning, NOT EVEN A TAS was able to pull this off reliably. The person who found this glitch, PJDiCesare AKA theSuperSNES, deticated almost an entire week of attempts trying to get this, before getting it on his 24th clobber.

  • Honorable mention to the Triple Tiziano skip in Crash Team Racing, an incredibly difficult skip where in one of the tracks Papu’s Pyramid you must obtain 2 masks and make an incredibly difficult jump driftboosting up a slight incline off the track and grinding along the wall of another section of the track and trying to maintain enough speed to jump off a very small bump in the wall, followed by an incredibly precise jump across the track behind the finish line in a tiny zone where the game doesn’t have the out of bounds mask active and you can complete the full lap. The wall is actively trying to push you off it as well, so aside from incredible balance to stay on the wall you can’t go slow as you need the mask speed to make the cross-track jump.

Imagine endlessly scrolling your mouse wheel to jump while you fly at ridiculous speeds, making sure to hit slopes perfectly in order to keep yourself on the air and going fast enough to fly over the entire chapter.
