    • Our dna is for 97% similar to an orang utan. So both ways work i'd say

      @bobbonius@bobbonius3 жыл бұрын
    • What is so wrong with saying their are major similarities between us and them. Saying they exhibit behavior similar to us does not imply they are inferior. We have a common ancestor and share 97 percent of the same DNA. You are getting upset over semantics. Poeple are so sensitive to everything . If you do not word everything exactly perfect people fly off the handle . There is nothing controversial or negative in stating that the human species and orangutans which share 97 percent of the same DNA act almost the same in many regards especially in the way mothers care for their children. Agian what is so wrong with pointing out the orangutan moms and babies act almost identical in their relationship in many regards. It seems people are determined to find the negative in even the most innocent and beautiful things like orangutans.

    • I agree, SOME female animals are kinder to their offspring than humans. But.. female Macaque monkeys are ABSOLUTELY harsh and horrific to their babies, especially during weaning.... a LOT of infant Macaques actually get KILLED by their Mothers because they're much too agressive while weaning them. They hit, bite, scratch, throw, pull their hair REALLY hard and even run long distances and drag their babies by the tail, or one foot with their heads bouncing off of rocks, tree stumps, logs and anything else that gets in the way .... it's pretty difficult to watch but also very interesting. Infant Macaques are probably the MOST RESILIENT of any animal I've ever seen, they survive literal HELL while weaning, it is truly fascinating. Tough little critters for sure! It amazes me how much they can withstand without letting go of the Mother's too, they even dive into deep water with their newborn's clutched onto their fur really tight & they keep the infants submerged for SEVERAL minutes too, it's SO nerve-racking to watch in the videos... just when you think there's NO possible way that baby's STILL ALIVE under the water after so long, the Mother resurfaces and there's the little monkey, still ALIVE with the Momma's tit in it's mouth and clinging onto her fur!! Unbelievable!

They are like a month apart. Her daughter was young when she had the baby so Jazz just took it and is raising both boys as hers and her daughter Sprout is fine with it. The whole family is all together. The baby orangs.....are Jim and Joe, mom/grandma is jazz and the dad of both babies is also with them all but his name has slipped my mind. But for a dad orangutan he is very involved with the babies whereas in the wild once they have mated they are done and have nothing to do with the offspring.

    • What forrest?? We're losing our wildlife at such an alarming rate due to land development, logging, poaching, trophy hunting, canned hunting - Habitats taken away, decimating wildlife population to the point there starving or pushed to co-exist with humans - the only way we can keep our wildlife in existence is by breeding programs sanctuaries - 50 yrs ago we had 450 thousand born free lions now we're lucky if we can crunch numbers at 20 thousand - kill off the lions and other carnivores than our zebras, giraffes, elephants, cape buffalo, and Antelope will all die of starvation there is not enough vegetation for all of them to survive on if carnivores are there to level off the ecosystem. Because of humans selfish gratification we are responsible for all of this humans are great at taken but we suck at giving back that has to be boundaries. I'm out there every day I see the forest and the land decimated I see the wildlife lying dead from starvation or pushed into other territory since they were pushed out of theirs and killed it's pitiful thank God for programs like this !!!

  • As with many things in Asian culture, they have a completely different understanding about man's relationship to the animals. Asians tend to believe that the animals exist to please, serve and provide for us and that they enjoy that. So that will play out in situations like this where not too much is provided for them in the form of ropes and things to climb on because they need for them to be close to to the window at all times interacting with the guests. They have found that their guests prefer that up close kind of interaction, creating more of a chance that they will come back one day, making the zoo the financially successful. And they don't consider it cruel because they believe that the animals enjoy pleasing us. When we are pleased they are pleased kind of thing. By not providing swings and ropes they are just making it easier for the animals to know what they are expected to do is all. Zoos in Asia are meant for animals to entertain the guests as opposed to the West where zoos are designed to be more like a looking glass, observing animals is as natural a habit as possible. And by the way that has to be biggest fattest titty I have ever ever seen!!

I feel so bad for captive orangutans but if they haven't been through the training to survive in the wild they wouldn't make it there so it's probably for the best.

Here is exactly what that software gave me: How beautiful playing the day like that. It gets even lighter. I am sure that a person who knows Portuguese would be able to supply a more exact translation. But I think the meaning of this comment is that it is beautiful to see the love between the mother and baby in their playing together.

The poor things are dying. How can they be kept like this? How can ANY keeper look at this situation and say ‘Hey- this is great”? These animals need to be rescued.
