Tesla Cybertruck: 10 NEW Facts You Probably Didn't Know
SignUp to CuriosityStream.com/ElectricFu... $15 for the entire year!
Did you really think the final version of the Cybertruck would be exactly as presented during the reveal event? Well, think again, because the Cybertruck is still very much a work in progress and we're going to share some Cybertruck updates.
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s disruptive electric entrant into the well established light duty truck category. The Cyperpunk inspired pickup truck may be the easiest vehicle for amateur finger painters to draw, but don’t be fooled by its brutalist exterior. Even though the polygonal pickup looks like it hasn’t finished rendering yet, the pointy stainless steel box accelerates like a Lamborghini, and tows like a freightliner. Proof that the game runs faster when you lower the graphics settings on your PC.
Constructed out of ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel, the same material used by Spacex on the starship spacecraft, the Cybertruck is infamously “bulletproof” although your biggest concern will be neighborhood kids throwing rocks at it to put Elon’s durability claims to the test.
You probably know that the premium tri-motor Cybertruck will have an estimated output of 800 horsepower and 1000 pound-feet of torque, enough muscle to propel the burly electric truck to 60 MPH in 2.9 seconds, and tow up to 14,000 pounds.
But we’re not here to regurgitate all of the Cybertruck’s rumored specifications that have already been repeated ad nauseam.
We performed a technical deep dive into the specifications and story of the Cybertruck and uncovered some obscure facts you might not have known, including some modifications to the trucks design no one ever saw coming. These details really elucidate the engineering strategy that went into the Tesla Cybertruck, and provide a glimpse into the complex mind of Elon Musk.
The Cybertruck will share its stainless steel exoskeleton material with the starship spacecraft. The starship is designed to be a fully reusable reentry vehicle. That means it must withstand not just the red hot temperatures of reentering the earths atmosphere, but also the cryogenic temperatures of space.
The 301 stainless steel alloy was originally selected for its strength, corrosion resistance, ductility, and machinability.
Elon Musk recently announced that parts of the starship will be moving to 304L stainless steel, A readily available austenitic steel alloy comprised of roughly 18% chromium, and 8% nickel, which is less brittle at cryo temps.
The Cybertruck’s elegant looking dashboard in the cybertruck interior is an element that attracted attention because it’s in contrast with the raw industrial look of the vehicles outer shell. On first glance the dashboard appears to be made from luxurious marble.
Detractors think the utilitarian design style of the cybertruck looks ugly and unfinished, While supporters love the iconoclastic multangular form.
The Cybertruck’s design definitely contains elements of pop culture sci-fi inspiration which we'll cover in our Cybertruck Review.
The Cybertruck was partially inspired by the Blade Runner universe. Elon Musk is also a gamer and said the Cybertruck is inspired by games like Halo and it looks like a Warthog.
When Elon was asked on twitter if the Cybertruck could cross streams, the Tesla CEO proclaimed that the Cybertruck won’t just be able to drive through water, but also float because:
“A Tesla works as a boat for short periods of time, as an electric car has no air intake or exhaust to block & the battery/motor/ and electronics are water-sealed.”
The final production version of the Cybertruck will feature some minor tweaks.
Elon announced that the Cybetruck will feature an improved air suspension with active ride height and active damping systems for better off road performance.
Elon originally said the size will be reduced by about 3%, he later said the size of the cybertruck will only be reduced in international markets making a wolverine cybertruck.
The CyberTruck may feature digital mirrors.
The Cyber truck is expected to use Tesla’s new V3 Superchargers, but may use new V4 superchargers. The trimotor cybertruck is projected to have a massive 200 - 250 kwh battery pack, It’s possible that the Cybertruck is already making use of the new and improved tabless 4680 battery cells that were presented on Tesla’s battery day.
The CyberTruck will feature a heat pump like the Tesla Model Y.
We're also building a bulletproof armored Cybertruck.

that’s a fair point
Better from your pocket 😁
They’ll probably make skins like for phones and game systems and such. It would be easy to apply and since it’ll be hard to paint because the metal finish it would be a good replacement to painting.

Musk is a genius. Using the same stainless steel from his rockets allow him to reduce cost to space in the long haul as the materials get produced on a massive scale with the production of the Cyber 🛻. Win win!
This could be a huge flop also. This material is way harder to form and repair than mild steel.
@@gregkramer5588 those sharp edges are really strong points, because it'll act like a support It will not bend easily, although it has a very simple and not fluid design, which means you can basically take the whole damaged part and just basically replace it But damn that car must be heavy af

Great video! So much fun to watch
Can not wait to get my Tesla Cybertruck!
your lucky
It will be a long ass time, they aren’t even in production yet, plus the massive number of preorders is going to take years for Tesla to produce.
@@TreyClay yeah, they also have to wait to get to know if they even can produce the cybertruck as it is because its not street legal.
They will be made in the Austin factory, not sure what the run rate will be but the design definitely lends itself to rapid manufacturing. No complex body stamping and fewer body parts. In addition no paint shop. Those 650,000 pre-orders could be done quicker than you might think.

Why is 1 dude innovating more than the rest of the industry combined?
the rest of the auto industry are smug Dinosaurs.
Because in Elon you have an owner/founder (one of) and leader of the company. People like Mary Barra and Jim Farley's skills are mostly towards surviving, a55-kissing, and making no waves to get ahead in the corporate hierarchy.
We all know that electric powered vehicles are fast and powerful. But we want to know how far can you drive running the air-conditioning on a 85 or 90 degree day. Or how the heaters at 25 below keep you warm and windows frost free. And how does this change the mileage.
I sure hope it has locking differentials, like the Hummer EV.
@Vikings The Hummer has CV axles with a locking coupler in the front electric motor. I am presuming the Tesla will have alxes too.
The only reason he is developing Tesla autopilot is so that he can eat breakfast in the car

Nicely produced, well thought out video. Subbed. Look forward to more. One thing i'm curious about: If the cybertruck is built so tough, or even armored, what would happen to other vehicles in an accident?
It's like the question, if I hit myself, and it hurts, am I weak or strong? Real answer though, most likely your Cybertruck will be the last one standing.
I am wondering how much traction the 2 wd version has,I have one ordered and must get rid of my 4x4 to afford it.If it has the traction of an old VW Bug, it will be plenty good for my purposes.Occasionally an awd or 4x4 comes in mighty handy in the "sticks".I can work with the range and the capacity is plenty for me.
here is a a question............. how long will that battery(ies) last while towing? another I have is what is the size of the truck bed. being someone that actually uses a truck for work rather important info as to know should i just order a traditional truck or could teslas truck be able to handle being a work truck.

Only design change I would want to see is a way for the sides of the bed to lower when parked to aid in loading and unloading. The triangular shape makes sense for aerodynamics, but definitely doesn't help functionality. Either that, or have steps come out the side of the bed to help unload items that may be lower in the front of the bed.

musk should add inflatable rafts on the side of the cyber truck and try to blend them in with the truck itself, and also add a hidden motor on the back of the truck that LITERALLY turns the truck into a boat

That's right, not until 2022
Deff CAMO Looks Sick!
Camo Version. Olive drab. I do like the stock steel finish, but besides the hardware additions, that'd be cool be distinguish it in another way.
Thanks for the video. But when will it be made? I figured the stainless steel was the same stuff as they make appliances of. Prefinished and cost effective with the economy of scale. Where did you get the idea that it was the same as on the Starship? I doubt that.
Anyone else from Sydney, Australia, notice that at 11:04, a Cybertruck and Roadster2 are screaming through Oxford St, Darlinghurst ?? Prototypes are Downunder for testing perhaps ??
Great video. It's pronounced three-o-x (like you say three-o-four) btw and not thirty-x, something I learned when i asked at work why they would roll the metal 30 times (30X). Donuts on me the next day ☺️.
my only issue with the bare metal panels is how difficult it would be to repair them when damaged most of the current body repair techniques are designed for surfaces that would filled primed and painted covering up any imperfections.i suspect tesla will go for the replace the panel approach rather than repair.
Was good work 👍
So what's happens when the extension cord runs out? GOTCHA!
We do like the truck but for me, 6ft just falls way short. I hope they offer a true full-size truck in the future, you know 8ft beds.
I wish they would decouple the battery and motor configurations. I love the longer range, but 2 motors are enough. The bigger battery pack with a single or dual motor configuration would likely have even longer range. I have ordered the trip-motor version. The angular design should make wrapping the CT easy for the amateur wrapper. And the stainless steel body means no more desert pin stripes for off-roaders.
what color wrap you going with?
@@ElectricFuture I don't know. Maybe a matte green? Camo? Tesla Red? I have some time to decide. I thought about wrapping my Model Y, but then saw a video about how much work it was and just paid Tesla for a color. All those curves are tough...
That polygonal look is growing on me. Only problem is I dont see a way to get a ladder rack on it lol.
I wonder how it will pass pedestrian crash test regs. More so here in the uk. I know it has pro active systems to stop it hitting a pedestrian but they are not 100% effective. And by law would still need to meet agreed safety targets. It looks so tough and hard, it gives my the impression a small bump as 20 mph would smash you to bits. I like the design. Would hate to see a drastic change
here in Europe a lot of people do not really have the Cybertruck on their radar screen. It just does not fit into the car categories they are used to look at. ....but I think that might change drastically as soon as people understand, that with different functional Tophat-ad-on-constructions the truck could easily change into a perfect camper, or commercial light truck and still provide all the Tesla fun at reasonable money. It's so funny how Elon always succeeds in staggering the old school car managers although he spreads all the info in time that is essentially needed to understand what's coming. Same for the SEMI. Curious to see what's next to come from Tesla.... 👍
When pulling a lot of different trailers you need to extend your mirrors to see around the wide trailer. How will that be addressed?
