Kodiak Brown Bear Hunting Adventure with Billy Molls
Imagine,,, waking up every morning in a 12X16-foot, soot-stained canvas wall-tent pitched beside a pristine lake somewhere in the remote reaches of Kodiak Island. It’s springtime. Ominous, snow-capped mountains surround you. You drink two fingers of whiskey every night. You eat eggs, hashbrowns, and fresh caught trout every morning at sunrise. As the birds sing and the waves slap the beach you thank God you’re alive, and no bears-that you know of-came into camp last night.
You lace your boots, stuff some food in your pack, grab your rifle, double-check the chamber, and head into the most legendary bear hunting grounds in the world.

  • Billy, I came across "The Legend of Kodiak" roughly 2 weeks ago. The title caught my attention. As I started to watch what I thought was a documentary and I guess you could describe it as that. I became more and more intrigued as I noticed there was just something different, something raw about the way it was filmed. As I continued to watch I became totally engaged in your story. Days later as I searched for your story again, I came across your other podcasts/stories, that you have produced on KZhead. I was totally caught off guard as to the Christian aspect on one of your trust the guide episodes was it night there was a fire burning and I just listened and it was overwhelming in the sense that I too am a bit again Christian. I became born again Saturday April 23rd 2016. The experience was absolutely life-changing and unforgettable. There's much more to my backstory but I'll just leave it at that. Sitting here watching trust the guide episode 1 because I wanted to start at the beginning. It's so uncanny how you describe what happened to you standing on that runway. The feelings emotions that you experienced happened to me too. I just felt the need to reach out and let you know. As a young boy growing up in Western New York I can fondly remember sitting at Grandpa's kitchen table with my younger brother paging through all of his Sports of field and Outdoor life magazine. Daydreaming about hunting those giant bears that were pictured in the ads in the back of the books. Many parts of your life story are so relatable to me. Well I know this is starting to get wordy and I know that you're a busy man. Keep up the good work in all that you do. I will continue to keep striving to stay on that righteous path, to be the man, to trust the Guide. God bless you and your family.

  • I hunted brown bear on the Alakan Peninsula in 2004. Most memorable hunt of my life. It is a life experience most people never get to enjoy. I hope to hunt the big bears again, but if not the memories I already have will last me forever. And yes I did get a bear he went 9'3"

    • We have similar experiences with our Dads and Outdoor life . I began my schooling in 1937 and I could read due to my fondness for the magazine,I discovered Jack O’Conner and became a wannabe sheep hunter in 1985 I took my first ram in Alaska, took another in the Yukon in 1989 and mountain goat in 91 .I no longer hunt as I,m 92 but I use Billy to keep my memory fresh. I hope you got to live your dream.

  • Billie, I have watched this video twice in the past two week. What a great hunt and adventure. This Island looks like a hunters Paradise and I had to watch several of your other hunts. I have been forwarding them to my dad and my oldest son. Now I am trying to figure out how I can go on a hunt with you. You are such a great story teller and you have done an excellent job filming your guiding experiences. You have really sucked me into every episode that you have filmed. I also love how you have tied the Gospel of Jesus Christ into your adventures. Thanks.

  • Billy, when you showed the ad from Outdoor Life magazine with those 3 bear hides tacked to the wall at the cannery it brought back many memories of hours reading that publication as a kid. The very first article that I read was called "Kill or be Killed". The article was about hunting Kodiak brown bears. That was alot of adventure for a 10 year old kid to absorb back in 1962. The hunter shot a 9 foot plus bear and had a full size mount done of ol' mister bear. The hunter was 5'9"tall and looked like a little squirt standing next to his standing up trophy. My days of going on a trophy hunt like that are days gone by and only distant memories of a boy excited to read another story about giant bruins. Thanks for another memory......Dave

I moved my family to Alaska for work and by happy accident have become addicted to hunting and exploring the beautiful wilderness. Barely see his ears his head was so big and broad-maybe an 11 footer? I've watched so many of your videos. Love them all-bears, sheep-trip back home to see your girls. You are a class act and wonderful example of the respect one should have when hunting the apex predators of nature.
