Kodiak Brown Bear Hunting Adventure with Billy Molls
Imagine,,, waking up every morning in a 12X16-foot, soot-stained canvas wall-tent pitched beside a pristine lake somewhere in the remote reaches of Kodiak Island. It’s springtime. Ominous, snow-capped mountains surround you. You drink two fingers of whiskey every night. You eat eggs, hashbrowns, and fresh caught trout every morning at sunrise. As the birds sing and the waves slap the beach you thank God you’re alive, and no bears-that you know of-came into camp last night.
You lace your boots, stuff some food in your pack, grab your rifle, double-check the chamber, and head into the most legendary bear hunting grounds in the world.

Billy, I came across "The Legend of Kodiak" roughly 2 weeks ago. The title caught my attention. As I started to watch what I thought was a documentary and I guess you could describe it as that. I became more and more intrigued as I noticed there was just something different, something raw about the way it was filmed. As I continued to watch I became totally engaged in your story. Days later as I searched for your story again, I came across your other podcasts/stories, that you have produced on KZhead. I was totally caught off guard as to the Christian aspect on one of your trust the guide episodes was it night there was a fire burning and I just listened and it was overwhelming in the sense that I too am a bit again Christian. I became born again Saturday April 23rd 2016. The experience was absolutely life-changing and unforgettable. There's much more to my backstory but I'll just leave it at that. Sitting here watching trust the guide episode 1 because I wanted to start at the beginning. It's so uncanny how you describe what happened to you standing on that runway. The feelings emotions that you experienced happened to me too. I just felt the need to reach out and let you know. As a young boy growing up in Western New York I can fondly remember sitting at Grandpa's kitchen table with my younger brother paging through all of his Sports of field and Outdoor life magazine. Daydreaming about hunting those giant bears that were pictured in the ads in the back of the books. Many parts of your life story are so relatable to me. Well I know this is starting to get wordy and I know that you're a busy man. Keep up the good work in all that you do. I will continue to keep striving to stay on that righteous path, to be the man, to trust the Guide. God bless you and your family.
this man's hunting films are EPIC. truly great work in amazing places
hell ya brother me to i was born in Arizona but raised up in Missoula Montana
Yes billy your back man Iv been having billy withdrawals Iv missed your videos so much! This one was amazing 👍🇦🇺👍
thought I was the only one
"May the legend of Kodiak never die."
I hunted brown bear on the Alakan Peninsula in 2004. Most memorable hunt of my life. It is a life experience most people never get to enjoy. I hope to hunt the big bears again, but if not the memories I already have will last me forever. And yes I did get a bear he went 9'3"
How Mr billy doesn't have at least 100k subscribers is beyond me!!! As quality as it gets🤟🇺🇸♥️
'cause very few people understand what he is actually showing us!
Agree.
Y mérite pas 1 abonné mais de s'faire bouffer par un ours, ça oui absolument !
Since I was a young boy, reading my father's Outdoor Life and Field and Stream magazines, I've wanted to experience Alaska. Thanks for continuing to stoke that fire.
Ditto! A dream I hope can come true some day!?
We have similar experiences with our Dads and Outdoor life . I began my schooling in 1937 and I could read due to my fondness for the magazine,I discovered Jack O’Conner and became a wannabe sheep hunter in 1985 I took my first ram in Alaska, took another in the Yukon in 1989 and mountain goat in 91 .I no longer hunt as I,m 92 but I use Billy to keep my memory fresh. I hope you got to live your dream.
@Nello353 thank you sir. I hope so too. God bless.
Billie, I have watched this video twice in the past two week. What a great hunt and adventure. This Island looks like a hunters Paradise and I had to watch several of your other hunts. I have been forwarding them to my dad and my oldest son. Now I am trying to figure out how I can go on a hunt with you. You are such a great story teller and you have done an excellent job filming your guiding experiences. You have really sucked me into every episode that you have filmed. I also love how you have tied the Gospel of Jesus Christ into your adventures. Thanks.
Very good writing/story telling! If any of your small town Wisconsin school teachers are able or still alive to hear you write or speak today I have to think you've done them proud. Sad that they don't make schools or school teacher's like they use to.......
I don’t think many of my teachers had high hopes for me! That said, my English teacher told me I had potential.
Billy, when you showed the ad from Outdoor Life magazine with those 3 bear hides tacked to the wall at the cannery it brought back many memories of hours reading that publication as a kid. The very first article that I read was called "Kill or be Killed". The article was about hunting Kodiak brown bears. That was alot of adventure for a 10 year old kid to absorb back in 1962. The hunter shot a 9 foot plus bear and had a full size mount done of ol' mister bear. The hunter was 5'9"tall and looked like a little squirt standing next to his standing up trophy. My days of going on a trophy hunt like that are days gone by and only distant memories of a boy excited to read another story about giant bruins. Thanks for another memory......Dave
He’s back!! We’ve missed you Billy. Your content is awesome. Thanks for all the inspiration.
I've been waiting for months welcome aboard Billy. It's good to see you again or hear you.
As a hunter just starting out in Washington this video was inspiring. Hopefully before I die I’m ready for Alaska.
Just wanted to say it’s very rare that I watch an entire video and not skip around! Something about your filming makes it seem more real and relatable than most hunting shows! Appreciate all the work just to put us up a small clip of your amazing adventures!
I was just there and harvested my first as an Alaskan Resident. Watched all of your videos prior to going. More than once. And everybody else's too. It all helped me to prepare, but nothing ever prepares you fully for that place. Looking forward to going back. Enjoyed the video/documentary.
Congratulations, I'll bet it was cold and windy. November in Kodiak sounds like a whole different playing field. But I know you can see over 10-20 bears in a day from salmon on the lakes.
Legend? Damm right this is what real legends are made of .steep mountains, deep waters , fast water, thickets and the most amazing animal alive. And great guides leading and making great hunters. This was truly a great video
As a hunter, from Colorado have come close to many grizzly bears, I consider them to be the most majestic of all North American species. The images of this video, the mountains, the raw nature, spectacular.
Ur hunting in WY or MT if ur seeing grizz, there are no grizzlies in Colorado 😳😳🤔🤔😆👍
Your narration and guiding is second to none! Thanks for taking the time to make this video and all the rest of them. These were two of the most intense hunts I've seen......... Felt like I was right there the whole time!
Wow, thank you!
I really enjoy your videos Billy. Having never hunted Browns (probably never will), your narration and video work depicts the fact that it’s not quick or easy hunting on Kodiak. Well done and be safe. Congrats to you and your Hunters.
Dave, No easy hunting in Alaska, period!😳🤣
Glad to see you back posting your hunts for us and taking us along on the journey, glad Tim got his bear not the big boat but it's the journey and memories made that make for a great hunt congratulations to Kent and Elias,Stay safe and healthy and God bless
One of your best videos out of many. Can’t believe it’s been 14 years since my brown bear hunt. Still think about it often. No place like Kodak. Trust the guide!
Keep doing it Bill William!!!!
Great video Billy keep up the great work. Keep them coming. Made my weekend! God bless.
Thank you for sharing!!
I spent the summer of 1970 in Homer Alaska. Greatest summer of my life. I pray I can return, and when I do, I’m going to Kodiak.
As a long time resident of Kodiak, (59 years), I can say that if you liked Homer, you're going to LOVE Kodiak. Kodiak is unique.
AWESOME to see your video's again...been missing your hunts. Thanks

Billy you are an amazing story teller and guide. I hope to one day use your services.
Glad to see you putting up films. Thanks for the videos and sharing your adventures. I think I enjoy watching you do it while laying on the warm couch with my family more then I do sometimes myself freezing and hungry yet the thrill and clients/friends smiles and stories are hard to beat.
I imagine I have watched dozens of your videos over the last 6-7 years. I moved my family to Alaska for work and by happy accident have become addicted to hunting and exploring the beautiful wilderness. This year I have drawn the spring brown bear tag on Frazer Lake and have watched this video 3 time already trying to glean as much wisdom as I can about the area! I already love your videos but I especially enjoyed watching one centered where I actually get to hunt next year! Thanks again.
Man Billy your videos are top notch! Your narration of the adventure is epic. From a life long Alaskan fine job sir.
Great stuff , loved it all , very well done - New York Times !
I hope to take my boys out on a hunt like that. Thank you sir
I'm glad I can live your adventures through your videos even though I will probably never set foot in Alaska again because of my age. Billy is not only a wonderful guide but his narrative is on the same class of his character. EXCELLENT.
Happy for y'all, seeing that monster bear, even without taking it. An awesome experience for the hunter. A treat for the guides as well.
I love you videos it makes me wish I was able to go on a hunt with you the scenery it just breathe taking even through the videos
Great story telling Billy
Billy, love your videos! Love hunting Kodiak, although, I only hunted deer and ducks, but still tough country, and saw a lot of big bears. Your videos bring up great memories of hunting on Kodiak, thank you!!
Loved your videos, thank-you for sharing them with those of us who may never get the chance to get up that way. Gods speed and blessings for safe hunting and travels!😎
Love watching your videos. Blessings brother, from mason Wisconsin Bayfield co
Great video Billy. I think this is your best one yet. You do great video and audio on your videos and I enjoy them all. God bless and be safe.
Love this
Billy great video, well photographed and of course narrated. That last bear that cowboy walked over that ridge was huge and magnificent-boss of that area for sure. Barely see his ears his head was so big and broad-maybe an 11 footer? I've watched so many of your videos. Love them all-bears, sheep-trip back home to see your girls. You are a class act and wonderful example of the respect one should have when hunting the apex predators of nature. Don't know how old is "too old" for a Kodiac hunt but having just turned 63 a few days ago guess I better think fast. LOL THANK YOU for your videos. God bless you and your family-happy holidays.
Been jonesing for new adventures Billy, thank you!!
Unreal, amazingly beautiful, very well put together, awesome commenting, incredible videography.EASE KEPPEM COMIN.
I listened to your first experiences on Kodiak, had to smile, I remember being 19 too, you are just half grown then ! big yes, strong you think, tough, not much. Tougness and determination really set in in your twenties, when you find out how much you can do, and how much is too much, and you have to know what that is if you have to do it again tomorrow.
Great video Billy! Thank you for helping me book a Caribou Hunt with Jim Riley for 2022. Hoping to book a Kodiak Island Brown Bear hunt with you in the future! Good hunting my friend!
Fantastic video! Billy this is the second time I have watched this and it never gets old. Hope you get the one that got away.
May God bless one of the finest bear hunters of my lifetime....
Thanks Billy , I've been been having with drawls. Missing the great outdoors, thanks for my fix. Enjoy all your videos keep them coming. God bless you Billy.
Me to
Love your videos. I'm looking forward to one day pursuing brown bear as it has been a dream since I was a teenager.
Thank you. I have always wanted to do what you have filming! My life just didn't let me live the dream to do it! I have no regrets. But thank you for filming your guided hunts. I felt like I was there with you.
Amazing setup! Had chills bruh
Amazing video Billy thanks much for sharing. Congrats to all three hunters on their bears....truly memories that will last a lifetime. Have hunted Kodiak myself 6 times or so, always for Sitka Blacktail and regret never hunting the great Mtn Goats and Bears it has.
I worked for Buck Bowden (hidden alaska outfitters) chasing dall sheep in the alaska range when I was barely 18 so I can relate to so much of this story. What a trip
I just wanna say that watching Billy moles all of his KZhead videos are awesome I haven’t had one that I didn’t like so thanks Billy don’t even know you but I feel like I do to your videos you seem like a genuine man true honest person so God bless you and your family God bless the world is all just get along
God has truely Blessed You! I am just speechless after watching this video. I wish you could make a new video everyday. Thank you.
WELCOME BACK
Finally found your channel. I've seen you on WildTV and I'm hooked after. You're one of the best hunter and video producer I've watched. Your narrative is excellent. Even my wife who doesn't hunt watched the show with me. Hopefully if I win a lottery I can hire you as a guide.
Billy your content is amazing and one day I wish I can hunt a brown bear. I live in Alberta Canada and in the spring I’m going for my first black bear an I’m excited. Watching your videos gives me the inspiration to keep on going.
Amazing hunts and story telling, thank you for sharing!
This is awesome
Excellent excellent hunts
That monster couldn't even walk right! Unbelievable. Fantastic production!
