Can't melt metal? Pistol shrimp can. I could see cities built on larger more active vents to heat the cities, which would eventually be domed (corals or shells held together) to trap the energy. They could even dig far enough down to get higher temps.

We never think about the theories we base this off. Like if evolution is true, then wouldn't ETs just adapt and evolve to their environment? I mean, look at tardigrades. They can survive in space and last for decades without food or water! So why couldn't have evolved to eat the things on the space planet? Maybe its just me, maybe there are more people who believe we need to think outside the box on thinks we don't know are rock solid

  • The first time I learned about All Tomorrows and saw the tool breeders, this video was the first thing to come to mind. They couldn't make fire, so the tool breeders worked around that and made everything purely from organic life, advancing their technology in that realm. I'm no scientist, so I wonder how realistic this is. Given enough time, maybe?

    @diamondsos4425@diamondsos44252 жыл бұрын
    • I've never seen All Tomorrows, so I can't really say to your exact question. But I had a similar thought about this video: the belief that fire & metal are necessary steps towards a higher society is _extremely_ Earth-centric. It'd be like believing that all lifeforms _must_ be carbon-based until you first meet nitrogen-based bacteria. We haven't even figured out how our own proteins fold yet. We hold absolutely no unimpeachable ground when it comes to determining what is possible and what is not in these regards. We've found _a_ path forward, but not necessarily the only one. We just cannot imagine what other paths exist yet. It's really a P vs NP style problem. It's very easy to verify a hypothesis about life's trajectory towards intelligence and domination, but nearly impossible to create a successful one from scratch.

      @myalt3019@myalt30192 жыл бұрын
    • @@far2ez539 You make good points, but a pretty much inescapable argument is that without fire and the control over it, the manufacturing of more complex tools (let alone what one would call actual technology) is pretty much impossible. Sure, it’s not absolutely necessary to social development in a civilisation, but without fire there is only so far a civilisation can go technologically. In particularly, there would probably be zero chance of getting through that ice cap

Completely binged your videos and Isaac Arthur's Great Filter playlist nonstop the past 3 days. It tells of a mechanical life form that was powered by the radioactive activity of the centre of a planet. It’s really interesting so I really recommend reading it. Nows here the question, what if this has already happened in our reality, but our universe is much much much larger than we can possibly imagine, but we cant see them because the light will never touch us. So I have my KZhead channel open on her phone and I checked the phone and saw the Kurzgesagt notification. "But that's too soon!" I thought. "They only uploaded the last video about Dyson Spheres about a week ago!" Maybe I just lost track of time for I downloaded that last video and kept watching it everyday. But let's continue. I could not watch it on my mom's phone because she won't open the lockscreen for me so I took my phone and went to a cafè with free Wi-Fi where I can watch it. I won't let Kurzgesagt down. Never. @jerkchicken_expertlyseasoned@jerkchicken_expertlyseasoned4 жыл бұрын
    • NO, we aren't done yet. The great filter cannot lay at the genesis of life, simply because "simple life" emerged on Earth soon after it cooled down at the formation of the Solar System. Which in turn means that "simple life" occurs almost everywhere as long as the conditions permit that. And there is no reason to think these conditions are extremely rare on a galactic scale. Intelligent life however is a whole different story. Among the roughly 100 million species that existed on this planet, only ONE has sufficient intelligence to think abstractly. Let that sink in! There is no single universal great filter, it's a strain of tough filters, and we apparently passed most of them.

      @abdullahalrasheed394@abdullahalrasheed3944 жыл бұрын
    • @@carlosandleon First, there is no "solid" evidence that the painting you are referring to are actually for Neanderthals. And even if they were, those dump creatures weren't capable of forming complex tribal communities such as humans. And their life was much simpler than ours. Second, even if we assumed that these creatures are somehow intelligent, we are closely related in terms of life diversity. We all come from the same ancestral line that is not too distant in the past compared to other animals. Third, even if you assumed these are separate species that should be counted alone, you would still end up with a huge gap compared to other animals. Again more than 100 million species existed on this planet, 4 or 5 species are literally nothing.

    • @@abdullahalrasheed394 You are right but the primitive red smears on the cave wall in Italy has been confirmed to be of neanderthal origin. Also Neanderthal and pre cognitive revolution homo Sapiens were comparable in intelligence with the Neanderthals even having an edge since they had bigger cranial capacity. It was sheer luck that the genetic mutation for advanced intelligence and communication has appeared in out species instead of theirs approximately 50 000 years ago. But well even if the Neanderthals did have the cognitive revolution themselves, their lack of proper voice boxes may have hindered development
