Big male lion shows lioness how to deal with hyenas

2019 ж. 21 Жел.
8 326 622 Рет қаралды

A pack of hyenas took down a zebra when a lioness showed up trying to steal from the hyenas and almost got a mauling from the hyenas, when suddenly a big male lion appears and the hyenas scatter away. Hyenas are more afraid of male lions because male lions usually have a reputation of dealing with hyenas whenever they have an encounter with them.

    • @@clutchpedalreturnsprg7710 In truth lions are the only cats to do this (in wilde) this is because they are the only social cat on the planet, the other species at most only do it when they have to mate or in domesticated environments, but they not have the complex sociality of a lion, they are solitary, they come together only to reproduce so at most they form long-lasting (but periodic) bonds between the same male and the same female, probably in Africa these cats have become social to defend their prey from hyenas or other scavengers...(don't explain it differently since they are the only ones, therefore an anomaly) leopards who hunt solitarily have in fact learned to carry their prey up the tree to feed in peace, otherwise hyenas would steal their every kill... (likewise the competitive environment may have pushed the lions to cooperate)

They don’t do all that thinking about why they deserve food more than others. Lionesses do a lot of work, too. In fact, most of the time more than the males because males don’t always encounter threats when they patrol. The males want it, so they’ll have it. That’s the animal way

    • @@Kevin-rj5zp Compare hunting down a zebra or something like that in a pack of five lionesses to encountering two or three other males lions when you're alone while patrolling your pride's territory. Try and see which one is harder to deal with. Also, I'm not sure you're aware but if the lionesses are dealing with prey that is too dangerous for them (for example, a giraffe - they can kill or cause deadly injuries with their kicks), the male lions usually come in to help and take it down because they're heavier, stronger, and usually bigger than the females. But again, lionesses and male lions need each other. They fulfill different jobs and without one another they can't survive.

    • If all animals turned feminist or gay for one year, the entire animal population on earth would disappear. Then humans would disappear, then all plant life would disappear because plants breathe carbon dioxide, which is produced when animals breathe. So the atmosphere would disappear too. Then the earth would burn up and become a desolate planet. A rock of sand, because the water would disappear too. It's almost like there's a "barren planet" agenda going on... makes you wonder.

    • It's not mating behavior. Look at the initial greeting between the two lionesses. It's the same display towards the male. If it was estrus then it would be very different behavior including him trailing her and thinking of very little else during the 5 day mating period.

Now, if you have biologists (including a big cat behaviourist and another an expert on animal cognition) and rangers (Including a Maasai APU and they very, very well know lions since they used to hunt them.) in South Africa and Kenya as family and friends, who are professionally acquainted with lions for decades, then by all means please elucidate. I'd be interested to see a different scientifically informed opinion devoid of anthropomorphisation. Adult debate should always be focused on the rational. Don't you agree?
