Sorry Jim, I appreciate the craftsmanship, but it’s just too heavy and not very creative. Finish doesn’t look that great either. I think it’s heavy, because you didn’t want to put in the work to take down the side wall thickness. That would’ve been a lot of work and you didn’t want to put that time into the piece. Just pushing product out the door isn’t going to cut it on You Tube. I challenge you to Create something really special next time.
Wow! You assume a lot! I explain why I left it thick and my finishes are second to none here on KZhead! Are you new to my channel? If you look through my video library you will see just how creative I can be! I also see your comment on why the negative comments are at the bottom of the list, this is done automatically by KZhead. If I don’t like a comment and don’t give it a ❤️ it get pushed to the bottom of the list. I will be sure to pin this one so it’s at the top! Jim
I think your completley opinonated on your words, as this piece will defintely inspire myself to do it. And Im just fine with the thickness!! It will be good if I need to hit anybody in the head with it......Lol........seriousley, this is a absolute stunning creation!! Nice work Jim and keep em coming....
It's almost as if Paul has never watched your videos, before. Otherwise, he would know how much work and creativity you put into your pieces. I think this is probably the first thick piece I've seen, and I like it. I've always wondered why you take away so much material and thin things down! ;-)
What an awful comment. I expect it has never occurred to you that your idea of creativity isn't the only one. Perhaps keep your negativity to yourself next time.
Well, would be nice to see your work @paulschena8492. Thanks Jim for another great piece
This is a great wood project book kzhead.infoUgkxkPIWb22DigCqxmlXerCyUF4HCl6eSU2L . Most of the projects use the pallet simply as a source of reclaimed wood not as a recognizable pallet so even if you didn't have a pallet you could make these projects with any reclaimed (or even new) wood. The instructions are excellent. The style is charming and would work with lots of different decor. There are quite a number of projects that involve tiling of teh wood pieces which is a really cool idea and can produce beautiful pieces when working with aged wood.
I would assume it would need at least some humidity, we really want to limited it in finished projects. Thanks
Wow Jim, you have imported your own brand of March Madness to Canada. Each one of your projects this month have been more beautiful than the last. I am loving it. This week's piece is absolutely stunning. Thank you once again for sharing your projects.
Wow, thank you!
That is a master piece , beautiful piece of what ever it may be
The thing with talking to yourself is quite often it is the most intelligent conversation you might have had. GOD BLESS from your Canadian friend.
Lol, thanks!
Hi Jim! I'm not one for the thicker pieces but I've got so much respect for the decisions you made to really maximize this wood and I think the finished product really shows off all of those amazing grains. You're absolutely right about the bottom - such an interesting patchwork. Would be amazing to see something like a platter where all those little ends could be displayed rather than hidden at the base, but I am sure plenty of people will love that fact that it has a little secret underneath it. I also really loved the use of the form to stop the resin filling the middle on this one - it does prevent waste and I think it shows that when you use the tools and skills you have, you can create something stunning without having to go overboard on the resin. Thanks as always for great content.
Thank you very much!
I love the way the tulip shape of this piece battles against the robustness not usually associated with that shape. It makes for a very imposing statement vase, and the pattern and colour of the different woods just adds to that effect. Stunning, just stunning!
I totally agree! Thanks
An absolutely gorgeous vase. You were right to keep the top thick because the end grain was really stunning. I think the resin should have been a little lighter to give more contrast with the darker woods. Plus we did get another episode of Jim vs. the bucket.
Thank you! Cheers!
A typical v high quality vase like all the others I have seen. Excellent workmanship!
Those pieces of wood look so pretty together. The black epoxy is not too dark. It actually helps give definition to all the individual pieces of wood. So cool the way the wood shapes when you cut the shape of the vase.
Thank you very much!
Hi everyone, from the very rainy Fraser Valley of BC. My art, is quilting. But I love watching Jim work and his projects are always stunning. I arm happy to support a fellow Canadian! 😄💧💧💧☔️☔️☔️
Thank you very much!!
Designer epoxy! I'm not a wood turner but I am an artist. Your videos are so cool! You are so talented in your craft. You'll hit 90k by next week for sure!
Thank you so much 😀
Lol, I'm not wood turner either! But I'm an artist and will definitely be using resin now. It seemed so scary before, but after watching literally ALL his videos, I think I can do this medium too. I'm just waiting for spring so it's not cold in the garage and I can do my first resin test!
@Valerie Fuqua same! I'm looking forward to using the Mica powders. I have a fair amount of TLP stocked up! Good luck with your resin adventures!
@@alexandriamonk2345 Thank you, you too! The mica powders DO look really cool. What's TLP? I hope I can get myself set up for filming again. It'd be cool to post vids on the cool stuff I do.
@@valeriefuqua4641 TLP is This Little Piggy! It's probably the most popular mica powder in the fluid art world. Works in resin and acrylics!
I love that there are all kinds of geometric shapes in the piece! Cutting the shape into it, made all these 60's/70''s vibes come out and speak for it! Love the way it turned out, and the black is certainly not too dark, it is perfect to define the different woods!
Thanks 😊
Designer epoxy. What a Monster! Holy Cow…3 liters of resin. The thickness looks awesome.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for another wonderful Friday morning drinking coffee and watching a great video !!
Thanks!
Jim I must say that you are one of the most consistent KZheadrs out there. Thought on getting the rubber band off, you could tie a string to the rubber band, wind the string into a ball and place where you’ll be able pull it to the top. Really like how this shows the magic of turning straight through to the final vase. Big props!! ~Smile oN
That would of worked too. Thanks
I was thinking the same thing while watching. Great minds? 🎉😊
I have to say that this is one of my favorite pieces you have made next to the peacock bowl. ❤ The shapes and symmetry of the exotic wood pieces makes this piece so unique. Great idea of taking left over wood and giving it a different life! 5 stars plus, plus, plus....😂 Thanks also for the bonus video as I watched it the other day and the walnut with turquoise inlay is another favorite of mine. Have a great weekend!
Same to you, thanks!
Good Morning Jim. What a treat getting extra videos this week. 😄😄
Thanks!
I get strong 70's vibe from this. Love it.
Thanks 😊
That is an incredible piece! I'm glad you didn't thin it out. I think you're right, it would have lost some character if you had. I'm almost speechless. I've loved all of the videos I've seen so far, and this one, by far, is my favourite.
Thanks 😊
Jim, your creativity continues to leave people in awe! Absolutely beautiful piece and I'm a big fan of the thicker and bulkier creations, they definitely stand out and make a statement.
Awesome, thank you!
As usual you made another beautiful turning. I look forward every week to see what you do with designer epoxy and what ever wood you choose. I use to have many KZhead turner channels, now I have only one, "YOU". Keep up the great work, Larry
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate it!
“And you’re not here to stop me.” Hahahaha You’re adorable!! I like your artistic instincts! Always beautiful!!
😊 thank you
As usual a stunning piece. I’m not personally fond of zebra wood but do love Purple Heart. I love the thick rim… possibly would have liked to see it slope down a bit more towards the center. I do like the patchwork on the bottom.
Thank you very much!
this piece is gorgeous!! you are a true artist! the thickness enhances the piece... it is regal and the size is so appropriate to it's regal status! i love it!!
Thank you so much!
You are truly an artist who thoroughly understands your materials. I literally would make different decisions at every point, and then this beautiful work would never be in the world. Love the “and your not here to stop me comment. Thank you
Thank you! Cheers!
Yes, when you are the boss you get to make the decisions😊
My all time favorite color with wood, black...... black and wood thus partner so well. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I really love this project.
Your very welcome, thanks!
Oh my days! That is a behemoth of a beauty! Once again, you pull something amazing out of your hat. 10 out of 10 😎
Thank you kindly!
This is a spectacular piece Jim! I really like the quilted look of the piece. The wide brim, which catches an aspect of the bottom is awesome! Im glad you found a way to make it happen 👏
Many thanks!
Another beauty! Team Retro. Reminds me of the fabrics of the 80's.
Thanks!
Nothing will ever be like your beautiful creation. LOVE IT
Thank you! Cheers!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Love that you didn't trim down the top and lose all that amazing character of the different woods. The finish just made the colors in all the woods just pop. Another amazing piece Jim!
Thank you very much!
Hello guy, my name is Jayne Donnell. You d a great job on making vases. Every time you make the vases I wish I could be there to watch and learn from you.😊😊
I love this vase as is. It's a perfect darkly handsome piece that has an old fashioned look to it. Love it, love it, LOVE IT!
Thanks!
Jim great choice all around. My wife now understands why I keep all of my cutoffs.
Totally, thanks!
What an absolutely fabulous piece. Keeping the thickness at the top was the right decision. It reminds me of quilts, but also the psychedelic patterns of the late 60's early 70's - yes I am showing my age LOL.
I totally agree! Thanks
Cannot believe all the cool ideas coming out of your mind. It just gets better and better.
Thanks!
The black tinted epoxy was the perfect choice and goes great with a more exotic looking wood piece. Once again exceptionally well done
Thank you very much!
I laughed out loud. For real. Anyone from New Brunswick should be looked at. Goes without saying. Wifey tells me that all the time. I’m glad the camera is your best friend
It’s a lonely world in the workshop, lol. Thanks
I think this piece is stunning! I love the thickness of the walls. I like the heavy pieces, they make a statement and are always noticeable in my home. The colors of the different wood pieces are so cool. I’ve never seen anything like this. Absolutely stunning! Bravo!
I totally agree! Thanks
Somehow this one is reminding me of the "mid-century modern" patterns from the 60s and 70s!
I see it too, thanks!
I did not think i would like the thickness of the vase, but you were right - it totally works and shows off the woods to great advantage. Love it!
Great to hear! Thanks
We handle annoying projects the same; ya gotta laugh! Or get worked by the job. The Old man taught me that. Absolute wow piece. One of the favorites. I want two of them! That one, and another with a decorative seated flare fitting style top, I think that would look neat. Awesome show, thanks Jim
Thanks 👍
I really like seeing things that would be thrown out by most people made into something beautiful. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
I not only love the work you do but I love the videos. It reminds of Bob Ross how you can't wait for the finished project. You are really gifted, 😊😊😊
Wow, thanks!
So you find yourself talking to your camera a lot, Of course , I find myself talking to my television and I just said WOW!!!! Out loud! And I love what you did with the top!!! I love the whole piece!!! ✌🏻😊
Wow, thank you!
This quilter in me really loves the bottom too. To me, I would call this more of an urn for flowers not a vase. Beautiful.
Thanks 😊
Love it. No such thing as scrap cutoffs with a little bit of creativity and resin.
Well said, thanks!
Beautiful work! You couldn’t make it thinner without wasting the wood, losing the beauty. Very nice!
Thank you very much!
I like the chunkiness and busyness. Designer epoxy.
Me too! Thanks!
Hi, you’re the best wood turner on you tube. My sister and I love this vase! It looks like a painting! Amazing and absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you so much 😀
Wow! Looks like a wooden kaleidoscope. Fantastic use of scraps.
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the thicker top as well, especially with the diversity of the wood and shapes. The black designer epoxy just enhances and showcases the wood types and makes it pop. Another one of your famous genius pieces. I never thought about that with the stop block on the miter saw. Thanks for the tip. 😀😀
Thanks for watching!
I'm glad you didn't cut it any thinner. That top with the end grain is amazing looking. Another great piece!
Thank you! Cheers!
That is a behemoth vase. It's so busy it makes me dizzy. Yes an insert would work well in this vase, it may have to be custom made though. Good job.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
I totally agree! Thanks
Oh wow, that’s amazing. All those different woods.I don’t think I knew there were that many colors of wood. The black sets it off perfectly. I really love the bottom!
Thanks for watching
The ogee adds a level of excitement and interest. Thank you as always. Stay well. Designer Epoxy
Thank you too!
You nailed it Jim, and I love the fact that you left it thick.
Thanks!
Oh by the way, love the “its all fun and games until the vase hits the floor” 🤣
Lol, thanks!
Great use of Designer Epoxy to craft something beautiful with the bits of exotic woods.
Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous. That Designer Epoxy made the wood pop
Thank you! Cheers!
Designer Epoxy! I have learned so much about epoxy from your videos! I can't wait to start working with epoxy! You have inspired me. And there's so many to choose from, but Designer Epoxy works so well for your projects that it makes it easy to choose Designer as my epoxy of choice. Ty for sharing, I love All of your projects!!
Great to hear! Thanks
Jim, when the light hit the sides of this vase it brought stained glass to mind, the bottom is like a patchwork quilt! This is one spectacular piece! (It may not make the sale page once your Missus sees the end results! LOL). Thanks for another great video!
It’s sold, lol. Thanks
Absolutely gorgeous! I'm glad that you kept it thick so people can enjoy all the different woods on the top edge.
Thank you very much!
WOW, at 2209 in the video it’s gorgeous, can’t wait to see the end. Got to the end,, LOVE it!!
Thanks so much!
This is a very thick vase. But if it was thin you wouldn’t be able to appreciate the woods so right choice. Well done! Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Although I know that creative artists don't like being compared to others, I can't help doing so:The random combination of colours and forms reminds me of some of the designs of the late multitalented Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Colourful, irregular, natural shapes. Impressive....
I don’t have an issue with that at all, I think it’s a complement, lol. Thanks
Had to look him up, yes very colorful! Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning Thanks for your kindness
The thick top also made the piece more stunning.
Thanks!
hey bud you not only made a stunning vase it also looks almost organic in nature well done
Thank you very much!
Unique and very, very beautiful piece. An entirely new style for you. Please don't give up entirely on the burl!
Lots more of that coming. Thanks
“The piece hitting the floor or the lathe bed, either one not going to be good for it.” must be a Canadian understatement. And I thought I was the only one who keeps second guessing himself- maybe it should have been darker or lighter? It turned out perfect, Jim 🌞
Thanks Ray!
No knocking that vase over ! Love that it’s sturdy. Certainly reminds me of a retro feel😊 great job!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Another master piece! I didn't care for the thickness until Jeff, who also does turning, said it shows the beauty in all the woods.
Thanks for watching!
I love it. The use of extra wood, not losing it. The colors are amazing. The tint of the resin worked out perfectly. So much to enjoy, I would look at it alot as well.
Thank you so much 😀
Absolutely gorgeous vase. The darkness would show off something dry like the light colour pampa grass.
Thanks
Beautiful project. I am glad you left it thick because the wood pieces make a great design. I do not think a cat could push this off a shelf so this will make a great vase holder for flowers. Always enjoy your videos and your products. Thanks for sharing your work.
Very true! Thanks
One aspect to the pricing is not only the materials, the hours of work, but also maintenance on your equipment, and most of all, your artistic talent. In these times, a true artist cannot just give away their intellectual insights and visions. You see something while you're working and bring it out. That's extremely valuable. This vase is a Real Beauty, thanks for sharing. 😊
Yes, all of the above applies to pricing. Thanks
I think the vase, Jim, made with Designer Epoxy, is SO freaking beautiful. The black epoxy was a perfect match for the wood.
Thanks 😊
Wow, wow, wow! Amazing vase, Jim. It does look like a patchwork quilt. 💜
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow...that is sooo amazingly cool! I really didn't think the black was a good choice, but you were totally right about it! It has the effect of making it look like those blocks are suspended in shadows. And when you have a project like this that has so much detail on the rim, it becomes less about the function of a thick rim and more about the aesthetic of what you've put on that rim. So yes, leaving it thick was definitely a good choice!
Well said, thanks!
What a great use of all the cut offs from previous projects. I don’t like to waste any of my scraps. Probably save too much of them. Designer epoxy
Don't we all, thanks
I love the different woods. Designer Epoxy.
Me too! Thanks
Designer epoxy. WOW, just WOW! That is one beautiful beast.😂. I love all of the colours.
Thank you! Cheers!
Well, I did not think I would like it as much as I do. beautiful. Great Job My wife raved about it for a half and hour. Designer Epoxy
That is awesome! Thanks
I'll admit that the hubby and I armchair quarterback while watching... Not that we are woodturners but we've stayed at a holiday inn and watched all of your videos. 😂 As you were setting it up we were saying "oh no! Jim! The rubber band!" And then you said that you needed to remove the band... WHEW! 🤣👏👏 Turned out amazing. A statement piece for sure!
I probably could of left it, lol. Thanks
I have got to say ! I have never seen a piece I love more, great job
Thank you! 😊
I like the thicker style, gives it more character. Awesome piece of work.
Thank you very much!
Jim I have been watching you for the last few days. I'm blown away at the work you do. Some day maybe I could get one of your pieces.
Thank you very much!
You had to leave this one thick to showcase the construction. Awesome idea and beautiful piece.
Thank you! Cheers!
The Revenge of the Pepper Mills! Or maybe the Revenge ON the Pepper Mills!! I was thinking about the quilt motif as soon as you put it on the lathe. Very cool. And I'm glad you left the walls thick since that echoes the shape of the individual wood pieces.
Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous Jim. I love the thickness and the black pearl pigment is gorgeous in it. A quilted patch work for sure. Take care and keep warm.
Sure will. Thanks!
Yet another gorgeous creation!! We were skeptical at first about the colour choice for the resin, but once again Jim you knocked it out of the park!
Thank you so much 😀
If that vase was a painting, It would be a Picasso!
Agreed, thanks!
Thick is good, cause you get to see more of the different woods. Good choice for the epoxy as well. Makes the wood pop.
For sure! Thanks
Amazing vase but it is big. But Designer Epoxy did an amazing job.
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow!!! Once again you have out done yourself. The colour of the 'scrap' wood just seems to melt together into one beautiful turning. Well done sir!!!
Thank you very much!
This might be my favorite piece that you've made. Love the chunky look.
Thank you! Cheers!
Hearty and beautiful! Thanks, Jim, as always.
Many thanks!
That is absolutely gorgeous!! The colors are perfect. The top being more dense was a good call, show cases all the woods, almost a stained glass effect.
Thanks 😊
I am constantly amazed by your imagination and artistry. 5his piece is another winner for sure!
Thanks 😊
designer epoxy. Wow that is a beast. I really like the bottom. The darker epoxy makes this a stunning piece to my eyes. Keep on having fun at what you do.
Thanks, will do!
The good part about the weight of the vase--a large flower arrangement will not tip over. Well done, Jim!
It sure won’t, lol. Thanks
Designer Epoxy. I really liked this bowl/vase/exercise equipment. I'm glad you kept the thickness. I like thick items as you have commented as well. In this case, the structure of the piece is part of its art. Keeping the thickness celebrates the structure as well as the shape and exposures.
Thanks for watching!
