Shooting icon, world record holder and all-around great guy, Jerry Miculek, gives us a rundown on the one gun he would pick as a do-all for the rest of his life. No easy task when he’s shot nearly every gun under the sun. What’s his go-to and why? Can he pick just one? Listen to find out!

I can listen to Mr. Miculek talk forever! He's a legit American treasure.
All week, and i bet we would still learn something every hour
It's easy to love that man!
Damn straight!
Great role model and great person in general, very humble in person.
He's strictly go shooting. GET SOME!
I could listen to Jerry talk about life and 357 Mag for hours. Please bring him back. Best I've listened to in a while
Sage advice!
Nearly half the nation are convicted felons for victimless non-violent offenses who are PERMANENTLY BANNED from possessing a firearm or even a single bullet, for life! (Example; DUI offenses without an accident!) The ETERNAL felony is based on what could have happened rather than what actually did happen! (Ironically, they still have voting rights!) GUN RIGHTS need to be BANNED from everyone and not just NON-VIOLENT white-collar offenders! VOTE to PERMANENTLY BAN GUN RIGHTS, MADD, and the NRA for fairness in EQUALITY ... (If non-violent felons can't have 2nd amendment rights, then nobody should!)
Get Jerry back but make it an hour. Never tire of listening to that guy.
"I'd be waving the white flag, Jerry would be making wads out of it". That got a hefty chuckle out me.
Yeah that was comedy gold...
@@DanielBoone337 It was just a chuckle, I haven't recommended it for best joke of the year, don't worry..
@Invalid Characters The white flag is for surrender, but Jerry would use it to carry on fighting.
Amen... Me too.. Chuckled It
Jerry has it all, Humility, talent, skill, the ability to articulate superbly, and the perpetual student mind set. All this and more!
Yea. Humility especially because they mispronounced his fucking name, fucking embarrassing for an interviewer, moreso for one lucky enough to interview someone that is million times more famous than them
My one gun for my childhood was a Rem 12ga pump 870 Wingmasted pawn store gun. I got a slug barrel one Christmas, and that increased my hunting distance to a good 125yds or so. Before that I was shooting round ball reloads out to 75yds. You had to be good at stealthfull movement and concealment. The same gun was my turkey, coyote, dove, rabbit, squirrel gun. I am 60 now and still have that gun.
Just wondering, what year was that? And what length is the barrel?
The good ol' pawn shop 870 wingmaster. Like, literally everyone found one of those early on in life.
Is that a poor quality barrel?
Mossberg makes a slugster barrel that provides the same results now. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Never get tired of listening to Jerry, endless wealth of knowledge, with the expertise, logic and experience to easily explain it. Great educational, and entertaining video. Thanks.
The simplistic wisdom of Jerry is always a sight to behold. Also, Jerry said, "I've shot 3" groups at 200yds" with a .357 revolver. Um....WHAT?!
And it was probably standing offhand lol
With mere mortals that sounds incredible but we're talking about Jerry Miculek here and he's made some incredibly impossible shots in his lifetime. Consider the 1000 yard shot he made with a pistol.
@@aarondelafuente8507 with a 9MM hitting a balloon at 1000 yards proves Jerry is no mere mortal :)
@@CabinInTheWoods570 sarge Biden said you don't need a 9mm!!! I say we don't need Biden 🖕👎👎
@@CabinInTheWoods570 he is
Jerry is full of wisdom. I feel like every time I listen to him I learn something. He reminds me of my grandpa, but he’s my gunpa.
I like how Jerry checked “that crazy dude” comment. Richard Davis did indeed save many lawmen lives with his vest and willingness to put himself in danger to prove that his body armor worked. 🔥
I can't get enough of Mr. Miculek! He's the kind of guy that makes sense all the time...and that's from experience. The generations to come...if there are any...should listen to every interview and learn as much as they can from this man!
Yes
You can never have too much Jerry! He is so down to earth that he seems like a normal guy until you see him shoot or hear him talk about firearms. He is a national treasure!
Jerry is a wealth of knowledge and I could listen to him talk about guns and the old days of shooting for hours!!!
Ten minutes listening to Jerry M. goes by way too fast! A true living legend. Thanks for having him on.
And the video was 20 minutes long and it still went by way too fast.
I'm going with the 22LR. W/ a Ruger 10/22. Light weight and can carry 1000s of rounds very easily.
That would be my #2. Roger MK3 or 4. 357 mag would be #3.
Ditto
It can be purchased with the integrated suppressed barrel. Very nice
EXACTLY... & THE RIGHT SHOT placement you would be able to harvest or self protect EVEN IF there's multiple shots & there would be with some things
I prefer handguns so it has to be my accurate and reliable Ruger Mark III 22 LR target pistol.
The man earned his legend status several decades ago and continues to increase his value to mankind. I appreciate his opinions on anything firearm related - and likely many other topics too. Keep the man talking.
I love Jerry's stories of reloading with whatever was at hand. Thanks for posting this video!
"One gun for the rest of your life?" About 30 - 40 years ago, Skeeter Skelton wrote an article about that question. After extolling the virtues of the .30-06, the .357 Magnum and several others, he ended the article with a huge surprise: a .22 L. R. rifle - can take big game, small game and in a pinch, makes a pretty good leather punch! Thanks again guys!!!
I agree until you add in home defense. The 12 ga is more versatile to me because over penetration can happen in small homes even with a 22 lr. This is just my opinion.
@@brianwest5348 Good comment, Brian. Personally, I would pick a mid-length barrel .357 where I live (wilderness). I'd carry light, fast .38 +P for the first 3 or 4 and higher power .357 loads for the rest if the cylinders. Reasons are: 1. I carry daily everywhere but the courthouse and the hospital (prohibited places), 2. Always have it with me, even working on my neighbor's ranch, 3. Will drop anything where I live. Except for concealed carry, I would also have to pick a 12 gauge! So incredibly versatile!
I like 6.5 grendel but price of ammo sucks along with availability
@@ShittyCut Grendel - Great choice for hunting deer and for self defense, bit in my semi-rural location, it would not be good for 90% of the shots I actually take: prairie dogs, raccoons, skunks, squirrels (which eat my car wires). But a .22 is almost useless (not to mention illegal) for deer and elk (also literally in my back yard). The "one gun" option is very close to impossible for me - like "one vehicle" - nope, I need a high gas mileage car for travel and a pickup for hauling. One gun? MAYBE a 6.5 with full house loads for hunting and SUB-sonic cast bullet hand loads for small game. OPPS, I also hunt waterfowl, doves and grouse. One gun??? Impossible - without giving up hunting. Maybe a 12 gauge - slugs for big game, bird shot for birds and home defense. But I can't conceal any rifle or shotgun. Ugh... back to the .357 or ????? Give up bird hunting and I'd go with a .357 or good semi-auto pistol. What a horrible delimma!!! Great comments guys!!!!!!!!
@@GeezerWheels for me I don't hunt anything but I see it would be a problem if I had to. I guess for the rodents you make traps while shooting big game with the grendel. That is how I would get around your issue! Toyota is known for putting peanut oil on the wires, which rodents eat. I had to change my wifes knock sensor on her 4runner. One car definitely won't work either lol but I'd pick my Trans Am!
Immediately went to the 12ga shotgun and the 357 revolver... Warms my heart
Get some! Never seen anyone who enjoyed shooting as much as he does. My favourite " Gun guy" of all time.
He's a legend!
Jerry might be the Chuck Norris of shooting.
@@jimmorrison306 is
I've always considered the .357 as the pistol cartridge equivalent of the .30'06. It will do anything you can reasonably expect from a pistol cartridge, the recoil is manageable for most people, with practice, and it's very versatile.
Considerably higher velocity in my 38/358 carbine 16" barrel.
Ammo components are 158gr lswc, bevel base, Dia .358 accurate powers #5 and also #7 , primers are small rifle. My carbine is a Rossi r92 tripple black 38/357 16" barrel, works alright with this combo ,there may be better powders but that's all I could find.
@@kevincallahan1607 Yeah, with most full power loads, you can expect an increase of 3-400fps. out of a carbine. That's very substantial.
WW 296 and H110 (same powder) is great for.357. Especially in a 16” barrel. I loaded a cartridge with 16 gr. W296 and a 158gr. XTP. When I shot it at the 100yd. target it looked like it was going to swing off the hangers. The target is 17” across and very heavy for use with a rifle.
Not even close .
Jerry should make videos the rest of his life so the rest of us and benefit from his many years of common sense and experience. Thank you so much!!
Flat out outstanding interview. Yes, a couple hours w him is priceless. 20-minute long, 10-minute talk, nice!!!
I enjoyed every second and minute of this conversation, what a wealth of knowledge in just a few short minutes.
Jerry is so Humble...God Bless him
Definitely agree on the shotgun as the one gun. As a trio: A good bolt action. 308, a 12ga and a .357 revolver!
I like your style
Got the first two but never had the third. 38 special but not the magnum. In any event, you could do a lot worse than those three.
I’ve had a GP100 4 inch 357 for many years. Recently got an AR-10 in .308 and an AR-12
30-06, 12 ga, and a 44mag
The .30-06 is far more versatile than a .308 - no contest.
Jerry Miculek.. should be a regular on this podcast. Love listening to all his knowledge and wisdom.
There's a lot to be said about a double action 357 revolver and a matching lever gun. Very versatile combo.
I agree. Wish I had a lever action in .357. Got some hand me downs in 30-30. But a .357 to go with my Python or a .44 mag to go with my Smith would both be great combos.
Jerry doesn’t need the carbine; he can shoot the handgun out to the maximum range of the cartridge.
Jerry is one of the coolest people I've never met. I've been a big fan for a long time.
Jerry boils it down to what is practical and works. I like the way he thinks. Great Podcast. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
I love Jerry! Genuine as it gets.he taught his daughter well too.
I have always liked listening Mr. Miculek. Just the sound of his voice is steady, calming, and so practical. He’s an excellent spokesman for all the shooting sports.
Jerry is a genuine class act!
Jerry is a phenomenal gentleman
Jerry has done and seen so much, I love to listen to him...my Grand daddy had a 12 gauge double barrel and 22 rifle..
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Great video 👍. So much knowledge in a short period of time.
Master Miculek is always a breath of fresh air. Thank you! "Snuffy Senior" is a S&W "N" Frame .357 Mag.4" barrel, marked "Highway Patrolman" with Pachmyr Grip. Its been my bedside, hunting side-arm, target and casual shooter for over 30 years. I'm now 75 years old and I still find it comfortable to shoot with cheap.38 Special or hot magnum reloads. I trust it because I know it! My own SHTF trio of firearms: - Rem. 870 12ga, 26" bbl with screw in chokes - Ruger Super Black Hawk, 7 3/4 bbl. .44 Mag. - Marlin mod.1894S carbine, chambered in .44 Mag.
Guys, thanks for bringing Jerry on!
Pretty awesome to hear this knowing I have a pump action 12ga and a 627 in my collection! My "one gun to rule them all" is also the 12ga but not a 24" mine would be a 26 but only because that's what I already have...
Buy a hacksaw. You have eight--ur, 7.5--inches to work with.
Listened twice. Jerry is a national treasure, pure gold. (Well, part lead I guess!) And well done guys on the interview the way you showed him due respect.
I have a 460V S&W magnum X-frame revolver with a 5 inch muzzle brake equipped barrel. I can chamber and fire: 460 S&W magnum, 454 Casull, 45 Colt, 45 Schofield, 45 Autorim and 45 Colt shotshells. TK Custom altered the cylinder to accept their stainless steel moon clips and the TK Custom 45 ACP moon clip can hold and shoot 45 Super, 460 Rowland, and 45 Winchester magnum cartridges. So that is my one gun and an over. and under 12 gauge. And a 10 round GP100 Ruger 22 LR revolver that can chamber S, L, CB cap and 22 Shotshells.
Nice job guys! If there is ever an genuine "authority" to be interviewed -- Jerry is the MAN! The first pistol I ever bought was a S&W 65-5...and yes...that's the one if I could only have one. And...lucky me... there happens to be a REM 870 here too!
This guy is so cool to hear talking. He's done and seen everything nearly.
I've learned a lot over the years from Jerry Miculek. And I shoot quick and accurate dead on from his teachings. Many Thanks
@@Butch_Deezlsteak 😂
OUTSTANDING interview !
Also I would choose the 12. You can get barrel sleeves and shoot almost any caliber you find or have.
The GOAT so much respect!
Love Jerry...god bless you sir
Man has so much information in his head, would love to have a sit down with him 👍
I'm always learning something new from Jerry
627 Pro 8 Shot is my absolute favorite! Awesome! 357 is Life!
Great conversation!!!!
I've been shooting. 357 since '76. It's my very favorite. I took a 10pt.buck with a Marlin lever action. Thanks for this wonderful video!
I realy enjoyed this, and jerry , its always a pleasure
When You do get MR. Jerry on again, make it a Bar-b-que and let Him tell it all. I would cancel My Saturday plans to watch and listen. I dig how He relates things as a Mechanic. I have been automotive tech and firearm enthusiast since 1978. This was a Great Video! Thanks
Jerry is the BEST... What a gentleman!
Love Uncle Jerry! I also have a love for 357/38, all different loads dialed in for S&W and Ruger frames. Even figured out the snake shot/ bird shot for it. Lots of truth in the 357 penetration had 158gr hard cast punch through a 335lb boar hog at 30 yard with a linear shot!
This is one guy you definitely should pay attention to.!!! 💥⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💥
Ed McGivern said, back in the 30s, that no other handgun cartridge would ever match the 357 for versatility or it’s ability to stop a fight. That has proven to be true.
10mm?
@@VeritasOmniaVincit176 As Jerry stated, a wheel gun will eat ANYTHING that you feed it. I carry a 1911, but for versatility, the revolver wins. My one gun would be an 870. My one handgun would be a 4" 66.
@@randallbarrick1192 ok, valid points. But I would expect the legend JM to pick a wheel gun anyway. Checking my Hornady reloading manual, the 10mm is actually MORE powerful than the .357 magnum. Yikes
@ Rodolfo M by modern standards maybe. By the standards of when the .357 Magnum was released no. It had an original working pressure of close to 60,000 psi.
@@VeritasOmniaVincit176 yeah. Not really. The 357 is more powerful if desired and properly loaded, but the 10mm is a good round, if you prefer an auto and can’t afford a Coonan. I want one of those by the way. Neither caliber is really all that powerful, but they are plenty powerful for most purposes.
While we think and re-think our ideas on getting by on just one gun, Jerry has really laid it out for us in a very practical sense.
Thats wisdom right there! Simple Always work
I agree 100 % and yes my vehicles have manual windows. ( my 2021 F350 crew cab, manual windows)
I have a 1989 E350 and the Dash is steel and the windows are manual and it all still works and runs. The best part is it still has the vent windows and the vents function. Instant air and I have air on top of it. Great day.
This guy Jerry...makes more and more sense all the time! Yeah, I know who he is!
I own several 357s. But I also own a savage model 24. 20 ga/ 22 lr. That would be my go to I think
We need an hour with Jerry.
Ran into Mr M at Cabela's Ft Worth around four years ago, spoke for a while. Awesome guy! 👍
jerrys a legend, great vid guys have u discussed the combo rifles, like the chiappa 12g with assorted calibre barrel inserts
Jerry... legend indeed!!
A true legend!
One of the first guns I ever shot was a .357 with wad-cutters and it was extremely accurate. Made me feel like I was a natural, but I had more work to do to end up where I aspired to be. My friend and I carried it out in the AZ Mohave desert with snake charmer loads should we run into a Mohave Green, which we did, but it was not bothering us, so off he went down the dry sand wash. And, I'm going with a .410 Henry lever action with bird, buck and slugs for "One and one only" gun. I have micro red dot on it which never needs batteries and it's a side gate load. That's my gun and I'm stickin' to it.
Jerry being Jerry just sold me on a custom shop 627. Next handgun for sure.
On cold winter morning, here in Florida so temp was in the 40's, I picked up a young man that was only 18 who was working for me. I was driving my dump truck, a 1979 Chevy C-70 and I had rolled down the windows because it didn't have a working defroster. When I left his house and we got out on the main road, I rolled my window up. I noticed he was shivering and I asked him if he really liked to freeze, why didn't he roll up the window. He looked at me with all seriousness and said "the window's broke, there's no buttons to roll it up!" He had never been in a vehicle with manual windows! I can't argue with Jerry's logic on the one gun to have but as a Rifleman at heart, I hope I'm never limited to just a shotgun! Jerry's a great guy, I had the chance to meet him briefly at a shot show and he just is a genuine good guy!
"I wouldn't have thought about the simplicity(reliability)". I did!!!!
THANKS JERRY

I loved the comment about picking up wheel weights. I once stopped in the road and had my oldest son(very young at the time) get out of truck to pickup wheel weight in an intersection. We still laugh about that.
This was a teaser, i could have listen to yall visit w Jerry most of the day!
The Legend
Thank you 😊
Jerry is the real deal
Jerry is amazingly intelligent and talented.
S&W model 28 Highway patrolman. Thing is built like a tank. I agree the 357 is a versatile and powerful cartridge. If it ever gets into rifles, don't overlook a 30.06. Another very universal cartridge with a wide selection of bullets. Been around more than 100 years.
The Model 28 was just a Model 27, but less finely finished, back in the day. They were both N frame, square butt, 6 shot .357s.
Great person to interview! He's got a LOT of wisdom to share. I'm an audio/video guy. You have the hosts and guest all in the same room at the same time. Why is everyone wearing headphones? How come you don't have one mic (or 3 on stands) to pick up the audio? Is this to make us think you're recording, and you have the gear to prove it? There's no need for isolation of inputs here. Just curious. Still, the interview was really enjoyable. Thanks.
Fire 🔥
Glad to see that Jerry agrees with what I have been saying for years. The only difference is I use a 20 gauge. Taking everything up to a black bear one 16th of an inch shy of Boone Crockett and then down to doves rabbits. Just get Appropriate ammo for what you’re doing. If you put it were supposed to go it work. And my handguns are all 357 magnum or 38. Usually I use 38. But it works to get the job done. It worked for us in law enforcement back in the 70s just fine
I use 20ga as well because of shoulder & back issues but having a 12 on hand for any kind of shtf is something I can't seem to let go of simply because of the variety of shells.
My whole life I've used the 20 for everything! 😁👍
Hey Jerry, ...Bubba Orr from Brazoria, TX..its been a long time since we worked together.Glad you are doing so well.
Cool video. I always thought the same, a 12g pump shotgun and a 357. And for the same reason jerry said, but in my case it would be my Remington 870 12g and my g19 9mm only cause i dont have a 357. And even if i did have one i would still carry my g19 its just so light and concealable and better for quick follow up shots for srlf deffence. Atleast for me right.
LEGEND
Jerry is a legend
We got him. Like Jaws. The yeti. Like a special character. Especially his contagious laughter.
Great topic! And, man, you want to talk about having a qualified subject matter expert answering this question, Jerry is the man! I agree with Jerry on this. I would lean towards a 12 gauge shotgun. But, if I am looking for the greatest versatility for self defense against humans or hunting most medium to big wild game (i.e. coyotes, hogs, mountain lions, bears, deer, elk moose) in the Americas within 100 yards, I might lean towards a .44 Magnum lever action, or a ~6 inch .44 Magnum revolver. If smaller game or better ammo availabiltiy/affordability are concerns, a lever action or a ~ 6 inch revolver chambered in .357 Magnum would have these advantages over .44 Magnum.
Maybe the 357 lever action?
I think you missed the part about the .357 180gr. out of a revolver going through 5' of ballistic gel. He said "there isn't anything on this continent that I can't punch a hole straight through" (probably quoted incorrectly, but you get the gist).
jerrys the best american hero great question and answer thank you
Can I ask you what headset you are using? Great clarity!!
