In this video I'm building a custom sofa table / side table / hall table/ bookshelf piece. So it's a bunch of woodworking projects all rolled into one. Kinda. I guess this piece is pretty specific to my furniture needs, but I'm sure there are other people in similar situations, so hopefully this video can give those people some ideas that they can adapt to their needs/situation.

The author does like to kzhead.infoUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Thanks for pulling back the curtain and showing some of struggles of assembling odd structures. The last half of the video had a very different feel from your usual style and helps us understand your process beyond story telling. It was nice to be along for the ride, not just a tour.
The "You're good" part reminded me of The Office. "Green means go. So I know to go ahead and shut up about it. Orange, means orange you glad you didn't bring it up. Most colors mean don't say it."
I don't remember that part...but I'm sure I'll stumble across it at some point :)
I love the push sticks as shoes!!
That m&ms skit had me rolling😂
I’m an artist-I paint and construct comparatively small things. I realized today that your videos have helped me better manage multiple projects and get more done! Thanks Foureyes!
Love the champagne table. But the tv should be at eye level when seated
This is one now one of my favorite videos from you guys because of the part showing the assembly. The struggle is real and I'm glad you guys showed some warts. Hopefully the rest of us will feel better knowing that woodworking isn't just the look of the final piece, but the struggle to get to that point. Thanks!
Thanks Daniel...all of our videos have plenty of messing up thankfully :)
I've had a table like this in my head for 5 years... I'm soooo glad you built it, looks awesome and is just quietly efficient. Thanks!
I am not a woodworker, but I love building stuff out of wood. This one will be my next project!
Chris: "Shaun, even though he doesn't really like to brag, is kind of the epoxy master around here." Shaun: "I don't really like to brag. But I'm kind of the epoxy master around here."
He secretly does like to brag.
@@Foureyes.Furniture I love the passive-aggressive roasting on this channel 😆
@@Foureyes.Furniture OH! It’s no secret. Too bad he’s such a Dweeb! (Old joke from Shawn, spitballing here) Love Shawn, just don’t let his head get any bigger!
Loved seeing you trying to figure out assembly on your own, and installation with your wife. Comforting to know that even very skilled fine woodworkers go through this process of trial and error.
Just bought my first house and this solves the “where’s my couch gonna go?” Problem. Thanks 🍻
Awesome. Glad yo be if service.
Best reply ever! 😂
I would blame autocorrect… but I’m afraid this one was all me.
12:44 really cool and tidy workshop!!!
you two guys are awesome, every video your humor gets me rollin!!!!!
I have to agree with Chris; "You're good' means you're all done. It does not mean you should keep going.
Thank you. 😊
No it doesn't. "Stop" means you're done. "You're good" is like "you're good to go/to keep going".
This peanuts m&ms sketch was genius
Great way to use some space that you regularly wouldn't, great stuff! =)
Glad you like it!
hey papa :)
Unique plans, music and presentation, every time. The epoxy segment was life-changing. ✌
Glad you liked it!
so simple yet so elegant, i think its the first time time i see some "behind the camera" material, it was fun and gave me a bit more confidence.
I’ve really been enjoying these videos, I also think it’d be nice and relaxing to have a version of the same video without a voice over. Just watching the work and listening to the cuts and sanding.
For assembly, why didn’t you put together each piece of the “L” shape first, then use the Domino connectors to attach them after they were already stood up?
because that’s less cool.
@@iComplainer 🤣
That was going to be my question also. Use those reversible knock-down connectors he just described right before struggling through putting the shelves together because they were awkward and too long.
The video would be much shorter and less fun..and we'd have less of bored Shaun with his "uhhhmmmm"🤣🤣
And the knockdown joints could be connected to a straight scrap with joints to keep them aligned during assembly, serving the same role as the clamps. The same scrap could separately be used to align the mating set of shelves. This would allow assembly of units while on their sides, so you're not fighting gravity. And they'd still fit together.
Great video guys! I love doing projects that use up boards that are just laying around. Glad you solved the assembly issues! This was an exceptional use of excess material. It is a beautiful corner or "not corner shelf."
Thanks man...I struggled, but I got there eventually :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture It definitely put up a good fight, but in the end you won, and it looks fantastic!
Damn those glasses are blue!
straight up cackled at the m&m bit hahaha
My guy!
First looked weird, but once it was put in place with the sofa and the rest, it was genious!
Looks really nice that would look great as a smaller version that was a shell/cover to a light! Love those slight angles like it should just fall over.
Yeah, definitely has that "it could tip" look that I like :)
Love it 👍
the project looks awesome, but the bred 4s beat like that look incredible!
Great tips... :D
I'm a little bummed that you guys haven't done any featured furniture projects in the last few months- those are always awesome to see! That said, awesome piece!
I like your creativity and love finding great ideas.
Looks Great! impressed to not see a steep bevel on the end of the shelves...
this one is AWESOME.
Thanks, Chris!
Any time!
Damn Chris, those domino-cutting shots (with fading effects and all) look great! You really upped your game there :-)
One of my favorite of your builds! Super unique and very Foureyes.
Thanks Gabe.
Is that sofa a Hughes from Joybird? That's what reverse image search points to. It's gorgeous! I'm thinking about replacing my couch and this one is outstanding. And not all that expensive.
Nice idea. I think I can apply it too. 👍🏻👍🏻 keep sharing.
For design aesthetics, the sharp edges look great. For having kids running by, champfer the edges and corners.
Well done ;) and I ain't talking about the shelves
Entertaining as always
Super! I love your projects ...
Good job on the sofa side table Chris and Shaun Thanks for always sharing with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Thanks 🙏🏻 😊
Your very welcome Have a great weekend😎
Awesome design and build! Love the look of this! 👏👏😍😍
Thanks!!!
@@Foureyes.Furniture BUT... please reinstate @ShaunBoyd as Epoxy Master. We need his sage advice out there!
More sketchup tutorial pleaaaaaase ❤️
This would be perfect for placing my Sonos One surround speakers.
I should have got them as a sponsor :)
I'm sorry for commenting being only halfway through the video, but that melting plastic cup reminded me of when I went to art school and the teacher made a huge measuring mistake when mixing epoxy. It started smoking like crazy and he had to take it outside and pour it out on the ground. For a moment we thought the epoxy would catch fire and burn down the school! Alright, back to watching the rest of the video 😃
Epoxy dowel? You guys just blew my mind. Thanks
You guys are so funny. Great build!
That’s such a baller piece of furniture
Thanks. I’m a known baller… so it makes sense. 😜
I used to have the same couch!
Do you remember where you got it? It looks amazing!!!
Great unit, Chris. Just one question. Why didn't you cut the bevel on the ends of the leg board before you ripped them apart? I'm sure there's a reason so fire away. Take care. Bill
Good call...that actually would be a better way to go
I love the awkwardness of 1:06 Rather endearing
what rug is that in your house? its exactly what ive been looking for for my apartment
Hi Chris, love the build. I just listened to episode 58 of the podcast so I'm not sure if anyone has replied to you yet regarding the tile things you used to play with they're called tangrams. Hope this helps. Big fan.
I feel like the two sides should’ve been switched so the long piece runs the length of the couch. Looks great how it is as well.
Definitely could do that. I wanted a long shelf on the wall though.
this peice reminds me of that optical illusion of impossible stairs.
Oh yeah...I can see that. From the proper angle :)
That's exactly how I woulda done it. good job!
Great minds… or maybe bad minds in this case. 🤷🏻♂️
Since these shelves were designed to come apart into two individual units, I would have assembled them individually, each on their side, then connected them together into the L shape once in place in the room.
I considered that. The problem is. The connecting ends need to be positioned perfectly in space, or when you try to make the L you’ll have gaps.
Wow, that looks really great. Great project. Is your sofa by Modway?
Очень интересное решение.
Literally eh oh el-ed at 18:14 XD I've been in that moment so many times, right when you noticed you already effed it up lol classic
I have that moment about once every other project
Great video. Where is that sofa from?
Cool stuff. Is that sketchup?
Hahah "good for me" so awkward. Well played! Now I want m&ms

Fudge brownie. I’ll need to try that.
@@Foureyes.Furniture saw them at a gas station for the first time just recently. So glad I tried them.
I may have missed something, did you finish it? Surprised to not see a simple finish is in stock plug. Love the design!
I mentioned that I put finish on it, but didn't include it in the edit. The video was getting too long. I'm always weary of a "Back in Stock" comment on YT since the videos are evergreen
How do you even come up wit dis stuff?? Gonna sound redundant but, so cool Chris. Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out!!
Put a pull out basket on the corner for dead-unused-shelf beside the sofa
Good call.
Hi guys, nice work but let me give you a advise, with all my repect, try putting the bookshelf on the opposite side, because that kind of bookshelf is designed for that, it helps to delimit the space by creating a new area, the way it is you put loses usefulness, regards !!!
Thanks for the tip. I get what you're saying and I don't disagree. however, in our space it would make it kinda hard to navigate the area...especially with two little kids who like to run laps around that area.
I'm thinking about building my own couch in this period. You don't have any video about how to build a couch if I remember correctly, right? A lot of couches available kind of suck in my opinion, I'm trying to figure out how to build one that won't be tiring to sit or lay on, my current couch is a nightmare for my spine! 🤷
I do not have a couch build video...it's always been something on my list. But just haven't tackled it yet. Someday for sure.
i am gonna fumble through and proceeds to complicate his own life after he made the two parts detachable via knock-down hardware :D - love you Chris
Is that a Joybird sofa?
I think you could have assembled the one shelf to the legs, then pull the other shelves apart using your knock-down hardware to put them into the legs. Or have assembled the two shelves independently then assembled with the knock down hardware.
A version of that could work. The difficulty would be that you'd have to have the legs in the perfect position so that in the end you don't end up with gaps in 1 or 2 of the 3 areas where your shelves meet. Not sure if that makes sense. But it would be very hard to be that accurate.
@@Foureyes.Furniture Fair enough, I briefly thought about that after I made the original comment. Looks amazing and love the pieces you make on this channel.
I am absolutely going to build this, but a semi closed off version so my bunnies doesn´t eat important wires/ cables like the Internet cable. Apparently they see it as spicy hay..
Did anyone else realize instantly that he didn't place the braces/legs the same as he did in the design? I don't know why but I feel like it would have been slightly more stable. Design. \ / Final product. \ \ Awesome project though. I may have to give this one a try at some point.
Who's the new camera guy!? :)
Chris doesn't put baby in the corner, Chris puts tables next to the sofa
Amen...Patrick Swayze rayze-d me right :)
Next time instead of blocks to hold spaces could you not just reverse your clamps to push the force outward instead of contracting inward?
who makes that couch?
Good job! 🥳 But dude.. we want to see more of the finished product after watching for 20+ minutes 🤔
How do I make a surface desk?
👌🏾
👍👍👍

0:33 Demolition $0 Shaun working pro-bono on Chris house?
Couldn’t you just have assembled on its side with one end resting up against a wall? That way you could have got the legs in one side easily 🤷🏼♂️ looks awesome either way
Yeah, I think that could work. You'd probably have to rig up a little something so that it wouldn't tip, or get an extra set of hands to hold it while you get the first few on.
Damn those glasses are blue
There's no denying it :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture You're cosplaying Brains from "Thunderbirds" - right? 😜
You could have just clamped the boards to the legs and removed the clamps as you went, right?
SHOE STORAGE!
I'm on board.
Not IN a corner, but ON a corner (of the couch). Semantic devilry!
The last time I watched your videos you didn’t have a beard. I’m not sure why, but they stopped hitting my sub box. At least I have a back log to catch up on 🤷🏼♂️
Oh man...if that's the case it must be a LONG time ago. I grew a big beard at the start of covid. Shaved once around November, and then grew it back. I think you've got a lot of videos you could watch. But in any case, glad you're back :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture just checked. The last vid I saw was the headphone stand. I put on the bell so it won’t happen again

The old "L" vs "l l" joke :)
Perhaps the meaning of “your good” should be put to a vote by all the spectators here, coz I disagree with one of you 😂
still dont have that sneaker endorsement huh? brick
So at first I was like, "Nah he didn't say "To clean up all our feces"". Then I was like, let me rewind after 5 more minutes. Sure enough he was like "To remove all our feces." And I now I'm like Well I'll be damned I got some good ass hearing! Good Stuff guys fragging Epoxy Master! SMH
