Nice fish. That reminds me of my childhood fishing off Plum Island in Massachusetts. Thank you for sharing.

If you want to catch blues like that on almost every cast head up to the New Bedford area after Labor Day. They school up in Dartmouth harbor chasing the menhaden. You can also catch them in Boston Harbor about the same time.

i was fishing 7 or 8 years ago in the same area that you were at. i caught a 36 inch bluefish and 10 minutes later my friend caught a 39 inch bluefish. i have fished there for 40 years and that's the first time either one of us has done that. we have never seen them there like that. there was a school of them and they cut us off 6 or 7 times before we got these 2 in the boat.

Fish have to come on the boat or it doesn't count in my neck of the woods. Even though you didn't land it, hats off to you sir. That was one heck of a chopper blue and I've never caught one like that before. Good stuff. 👍

In Jersey that's a typical sized Slammer. They are the hardest fighting fish! Good job of catch and release. Lol

They don't try and run up into the mangroves like the big snook. Stayed out in open water for the fight. I've been here my entire life and never seen a bluefish that big here. Usually ours are 12 to 22 inches. Maybe 2lbs on the bigger ones. Down at Sebastián I've seen them up to 5lbs. My buddy put up a full video on his channel @FishingAroundFlorida you might like.

I can't eat them. I'm aware that some folks do, but they are nasty.

How bent up were your hooks? 😂 they destroy lures! BTW I’d rather each the sole of my boot than that critter lol For all my northern friends whom may argue. They don’t taste the same once they get down here in the warm water. They’re like cat food. I have family in NY. The Blues here are barely edible as opposed to up north. Some folks smoke them I guess, but with all the nice white meat fish we have in Florida why bother? For the dream Yeew! 😎🤙

No net. Lip grip is all I carry because I never usually catch toothy critters. Snook are like bass so I thumb those. Trout and reds get the lip grip. Im glad it got off right when it did because the plan was to grab it by the tail and I think that was a bad plan.
