I Never Expected A Fish This Big To Eat The Lure!

Well that time is upon us. Its the end of the river season here in England and unfortunately the rivers are not in the best conditions. With that I decided the only thing worth doing would be targeting big perch in the slack waters one last time. I hit all the areas where I've caught big perch this season to try and end it on one last big fish. I ended up with quite a large unexpected catch!

  • Pure nostalgia! Uncle Ted used to take us down the poo pipe in the summer with a pocket full of change. We used to sing "Poo pipe poo pipe keep it Shtum, Poo pipe poo pipe don't tell mum". I used to love his game of steal our shoes and walk home bare foot.

  • Some really decent genetics going on in that river. Here in Wis we don't have perch like that anymore. We have Lake Michigan but that's not considered inland fishing - monsters in there, huge stocked trout and salmon, but I'd rather have what you have. Healthy fish, nice vids.

  • After getting lots of Perch through the season it completely died....I was still getting small Pike though but, in the end, my last trip on the River Nene last Wednesday ended up lasting 6 casts....The torrential rain on the Sunday and Tuesday had buggered it good and proper (after getting 3 sessions in after the February floods)......Never mind though, June is but a few months away. Can't wait to get my BFS setup used again.... As for weedless.....bloody love it and it got me many fish (Pike and Perch) during the weedy summer....I've always got some made up with me on the bank.... Loved the Snagged Bro comment....made me smirk as they mention you a few times :)

  • What a vid and what a day Chris. 🙂Those are some fine early spring Perch which are going to weigh much more in the summer. I hope we get to see a repeat summer session too. By the way, loved the Snag Bros banter 13:45. And it sounded a bit like you said a nice couple of "slags" over there at 2:10..But the Pike are the cherry on the cake. Those are two awesome end of river season fish. Awesome fighting power. Although you still worry me at times using monofilament when you know there are Pike...(Big Ones too). Just switch to a fine supply 12 to 16 pound wire when you fish there for predators next time. I'm sure you'll still get the big Perch interested too. 🎣🙂
