TINY creek is full of MONSTER trout - a creek this small should not have this many BIG fish! p18

In part 18 of the 9-week truck bed camping road trip, I'm fly fishing a tiny creek that is full of big native cutthroat trout...some of which rival those found in the biggest rivers out west...which is super impressive considering this creek is tiny. The last fish of the day was a monster for this class of stream...watch closely to see the other freaks in that pool. Be sure to check out the teaser at the end for part 19/day 2 on this stream without a doubt it's the best small stream or creek I've ever fished. This fishery is amazing...lots of big native westslope cutthroat trout in a beautiful small stream, wilderness setting!
I started my 9 week off-the-grid, road trip on July 31, 2022, and spent roughly 3 weeks in WY, ID and MT returning home mid-October. I'll be sharing one video/week until the series is complete. Check out all the videos from this trip in the playlist linked below:

  • That is as close to paradise as a fisherman can get. Reminds me of Wyoming in the early 1980’s when I could catch loads of 13-19 inch browns and rainbows in streams even smaller than that one. So blessed to have had that opportunity.

  • Been "lurking" for some time while following your fly-fishing adventure across the inter-mountain west. Yes, there are these little gems to be found and once you find them they are typically a closely guarded secret. As a fellow fly-fisher and resident of MT, I appreciate your effort to keep these gems from becoming overrun and destroyed from receiving too much fishing pressure. Also, your efforts to keep from over stressing the fish after catching them is noteworthy as are your efforts to release them back into the stream. You have gained another subscriber.

  • That looked like real grizzly country. Been to Wyoming and Yellowstone 5 times in the mid to latter 1980s and tried never to fish alone in the backcountry. And rule #1, make a lot of noise. But the fishing opportunities out there are just fantastic. Dries like pale morning dun, royal coachman and Dave’s hopper worked really well. Back then the crowds disappeared just before Labor Day. So I tried to plan my trips just after the holiday. Funny how cold it could get within a couple of weeks of the crowds leaving. A lot of fond memories. Totally magical place with very agreeable trout.
