  • 60 years ago, my Dad was a commercial fishermen on the Mississippi River. He caught catfish over 100 lbs all the time. My grandfather caught an alligator gar that was 10 feet long.

    • That's two very impressive catches. Did he mount both? And if you all ate the meat how did that big ass catfish taste being so huge?

      @cmcgsr3243@cmcgsr32432 жыл бұрын
    • @@cmcgsr3243 dad sold those fish, or we ate it. We were very poor. The gar was given to Grampa's buddy at the fish market. He had it mounted, and it hung there for many years. I had told the story grampa told, of catching it, and having to shoot it in the head with a 22, to my wife. I was visiting my home town, Helena, Arkansas with my wife. We stopped for lunch at the Truck stop in West Helena. After we sat down, I looked up, and there it was, hanging on the wall. I knew it was his! I asked the waitress if she knew the history of it. She told me her dad did. She told me he was the owner of the truck stop. He came and told me, he bought it at an estate auction, of the son of Lonny Lawrence. Lonny was the buddy of my Grandfather. My Wife, a New Jersey girl, told me she thought I had just been telling her a fish tale, about the 10' gar. There is no telling how old that fish was. There wasn't much pollution in the river then. Maybe that is the reason. It destroyed the gill net it was caught in. Fortunately, Grampa made his own nets. He and Dad built wooden boats too. That's a whole different story though. Old people love telling stories too much.

    • @@Goodellsam That's amazing. 2 awesome catches. I tell you the old school people had some amazing stories to tell during their time. My grandparents both passed away but I tell you my grandfather told me stories of his service in the navy and fighting in WW2. Stories of him doing things as a boy growing up. I could sit and listen to those stories all day. Again a great story of the 2 catches. Again my friend that was amazing!

Howbeit when *HE* the spirit of truth, is come, *HE* will guide you into all truth: for *HE* shall not speak of himself but whatsoever *HE* shall hear, that shall *HE* speak and *HE* will show you things to come. • They would have started the hole in the ice with the auger. When it gets buried, detach the motor from the auger, attach the next auger section. Drill down, detach, add the next section. It looks like four 4ft sections of auger. If they had a metal stop they could put at ice level they could detach it like normal on the way out but I don't think they intended for this. A metal H is what we use with drilling augers to stop it from dropping back down in the hole. Never seen that many augers drilling for a fishing hole. Must be deep Canada.

Have not cast a single line since that morning. About 1978. It is hard to explain. I hurt a beautiful thing for sport. Just remembering this still bothers me. I fished every day before that. Still have enough rods and gear to open a store. I will kill fish for food. Injuring them for fun is some sort of sin.

    • Fish don’t feel pain the way humans do. They don’t have the neural physiological component in their brain to feel pain. They respond to injury as a survival mechanism but it’s not the same as having pain receptors. I’m totally okay with people giving up fishing because they think it’s painful for fish as long as they’re consistent and refrain from eating fish or any animal protein at all.

  • I used a Mini Might to Salmon fish a few seasons ago. At first people laughed, ya know, 3lb line, 3lb reel and a micropole. Then I hooked a salmon. People were upset as I tried to land it because this was going to take all day and it wrecked their time fishing waiting. Then the bets started. Who could land a fish that big on light line and pole? 27 minutes into my fight the fish is in: 32.7lb Chinook Salmon. I got a lot of Budweisers pushed my way after that!

    • I knew (by association-fishing steelhead on American river) a very talented fisherman named Frank He fished in a similar fasion for steelhead. he caught the state record Rainbow trout out of a nearby lake below a lake. He was the only guy I have known who would also get arrested while fishing. He would do this by fishing in areas that were of controversy (half of a popular fishing spot got blocked off (near a dam outlet) for "security" he would simply stand in front of the gate while fishing I witnessed him get hauled away for this
