For the second year in a row, our Vietnamese blue beauties had a clutch of eggs! And just like before, she laid them vertically... How interesting! We haven't seen this in any other species! Let's hope they hatch :)

  • Blue beauty rat snakes do remain near the eggs and defend them against predation. Most blue beauty rat snakes in captivity do exhibit post egg laying maternal behaviour towards the eggs like large pythons.

It is possible that you will open the humid hide to find the female tightly coiled around 10 to 15 eggs (or up to 25 for larger subspecies)."

An issue of Reptiles Magazine released some 20 years ago talked about one of the earliest captive clutches being incubated by the dam. Most recently someone in Europe let their cave dwelling rat snake maternally incubate with success.

No snake could get through it. You know what she did? She got through it. She dealt herself great damage getting in there. No burn marks, just injuries. We think she got spinal damage, a cute under th3 head and a cut on her tail. She didn’t make it. So BE. CAREFUL.

One day, I looked in and she had just disappeared. I tore the thing apart searching for her, until I realised she escaped through the tiny hole that was meant for the wires of the under tank heat mat. I only figured that out because there was some sort of musk or excretion around the back of the tank where the hole was. It’s been almost 2 years, and we never found her.

I've only got the one, but snake plants (ironically enough) seem to grow really well in it, since they have stronger roots that don't stick to the ridges on the inside of the pot like a lot of more delicately rooted plants do. Which means that the snake plants are a lot easier to move to a bigger pot later on when they grow big and strong.

  • Blue Beauties are my favorite snake in appearance; not so much in attitude 🙂. Whoever named them certainly picked out the right name. How are 13 baby Blue Beauties going to fit in that little container when they start pipping? Even the babies are long for baby snakes. It will be interesting to see them all entwined on that small space. Fun fact ... I am actually very scared of snakes, as in run screaming in the opposite direction when I see one. But I love your channel and can speak pretty fluently regarding snakes and morphs and genetics. All thanks to Snake Discovery. And very weirdly, every so often, during a hatching video, I think I should get a baby hognose (normal is my favorite with axanthic a close second - I also prefer normal to conda unless it is a super conda). But reality sets in and I remember I run screaming from snakes and think it is probably best if I stay snakeless. 🙂

  • … shouldn’t you look on the underside of the waterdish just to be safe that she hasn’t accidentally glued one of her eggs up?… amazing, look forward to hatchlings 🐍

  • How do you decide on price points for your different snakes? If it’s too private I understand but how much do you make with all your babies. I’m am not interested in breeding I’m just curious. Again if it’s too personal I understand maybe you could say like what average snake breeders earn.

  • Sometime you should do an eyeball clutch, like treat the eggs like giant eyeballs and draw irises and pupils on them so you can have a lot of large oddly shaped eyeballs looking up at you.

  • Hi Emily I’m Ashleigh and I’m 10 year old, I LOVE your videos I have been watching your about a year now. You have helped me so much with what I want to do bc I want to breed snakes and lizards just like you and maybe turtles are used to kind of be afraid of reptiles well just snakes now I love them. My favorite animal that You have is probably Cheyenne I just love her quirkiness I hope you three do well ❤️❤️
