There is little in the world that can match the simultaneous awesomeness and mystery of a Badass Plane. These are the paragon of modern innovation, yet largely pass invisibly above us. They decide battles and wars, yet only a few lucky soldiers get to see them. Blah blah blah words. Let's look at some incredible machinery.

Respects to the pilots and crews operating all of them. No matter how advanced or low tech the equipment it's the skill and work of the operators that are the core of their effectiveness.
Actually something new I learned today about the F-35 is that the helmets the pilots wear permit them to see all their surroundings in infrared even through the aircraft where there is no glass; almost like x-ray vision. I found that cool because that's what allows the pilots to have such advanced awareness of the battlefield, and being able to see even through the aircraft where there isn't glass. Goes to show how advanced and sophisticated the F-35 is. My favorite fighter jet by far 🤩
That would be great for drivers in eliminating blind spots. Of course, that would probably add $2 million to the price of the car.

I swear. I was a FA gunner on M-110 inch guns in Germany in 1983-85. One of my best memories was sunning my self on the deck of my gun in Graf watching these beautiful birds gracefully fly at treetop level. Then off in the distance, near the impact area, I would hear that brrrrrrrrrrr.
I’m a 30 year airman. There are so many planes that I find fascinating. But the most excited I’ve ever been seeing an aircraft was the B-2. First time I saw one, I had just landed on a C-130 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. It was about 1400, no clouds in the sky, just a gorgeous 80 degree day in paradise. Also, since I was still on the flightline waiting for a ride off the airfield, I had a perfect up close view. Then I seen it, coming around to land. It was so amazing seeing that flying wing for the first time. In 2nd place? I was at Hurlburt Field years later and I seen a package of 4 CV-22’s flying along the beach. That is an amazing looking aircraft, no doubt! B-1’s are amazing, too. At an air show at Dyess Air Force Base, a B-1 doing a low level pass, setting off a bunch of car alarms on the ground, that was something else!

The fact that the A-10 has saved so many soldiers as a low ground air-support, it makes me sad to hear that they want to retire it, it's personally my favorite plane ever made with that 70 RPS.
When I was deployed, there is nothing comforting than the whir of those engines overhead the the rip of her cannons. Occasionally, we would get pelted by brass falling from the sky. Some of the guys hated that. Me, I loved it! Guess it's time for me to go play DCS A-10 now :P
@@mikerheynolds2193 I thought the A-10 had a specifically designed closed system to catch the shells? Otherwise they’d get sucked up into the engines air intake. Maybe it didn’t catch all the shells? Or maybe it was homies throwing shells on your head just to fuck with you

The firepower of the A-10 is simply unrivalled
The fact that you fail to include the F-16 makes one wonder how you came up with your list. The F-16 is undeniably one of the most successful fighter programs ever developed…with an impressive combat record and successfully used by the air forces of many nations. It is the go to dual role fighter of the USAF…over 70 air to air kills and the most numerous air to ground tactical strike platform in the US inventory…its beauty can’t be denied.
Think the old Grumman F-14 Tomcat & Blackbird SR-7 both deserved to be on this list (IMHO)...Always loved their slick designs & unique capabilities.
We all know that a-10 will forever be phenomenal for its performance and won’t be replaced for a while

I’d like to make a case for four aircraft as being the greatest American military aircraft of all time for the simple fact of their longevity and some still at the apex of their field. The C130, the B52, the F-15, and A-10 with a special mention to the KC-135.
Thanks for keeping A-10 at the top.
ah yes
Should’ve been the B2 spirit but not mad that it’s an A10
How cool is it that 4 out of the top 7 are aircraft that are 40+ years old and still just as effective now as they have ever been.
Before they use to make stuff more durable, same in Soviet Union, now this "new" technology breaks down too early or has so high maintenance cost that its better to use old technology.
Sounds like those people that came up during the cold war knew what they were doing when designing these things.
Not cool because they aren't as effective and it is not good we've done poorly at replacing them.
@@ws8080 they've tried to retire the B52 and A10 multiple times and can't come up with anything better that is also cost-effective as well. The F22 replaced the F14 as the premiere air-to-air combat system and it is exponentially better. It's just expensive as hell. Why spend trillions when you can retrofit existing tech to make it better than anything the enemy has at a much lower cost? There isn't much out there that is as good as American air assets in the world. Some may be close, but aren't better.
The A-10 is still my favorite! My first duty station in the Air Force was Bentwaters, UK, guarding A-10s!

I actually got to ride a variety of military aircraft. Huey, Chinook, Blackhawk, and took a c141 to Panama. I grew up almost exactly between two airforce bases so seeing planes going from one to the other wasn't rare. Looked up or morning and saw two B1s refueling overhead. Saw a B52 doing a below the radar flight outside town one day low enough that it looked like they were lucky that there's only 7 trees in the entire state. (I know they were high enough to clear any trees. But from the right distance it looks lower than it really is) But the coolest one was out in southwest South Dakota on a state highway that cut through a deep S shaped valley. From above this would look like taking a dollar sign ($) and turning the line that bisects the S 90°. I was on the downhill side of the valley and a B52 banked left to cross over the road right in front of me then banked right following the valley and vanished. I was probably doing near 100mph (that part of the state has more gophers than people so it's very lightly patrolled) and it briefly felt like i wasn't moving. The pilot waved to me as they crossed in front of me, which i found to be neighborly lol
Hell yeah that sounds badass

I'll tell ya from personal experience the A10 has save many of us fighting on the ground. Love em
just cant beat the B52 and C130 imo. Theres something admirable about them both still being excellent at their jobs. Great engineering.
I got to work on some of those aircraft while in service and enjoyed the experience and their destructive power. The enemy forces who was in the area where the A-10 Thunderbolt was called in must have feared them and their firepower. The enemy didn't want to see the B-52H model coming either as they can carry so many different types of weapons and can wipe out targets and anything close to them quickly and efficiently too. The C-130's are another type of airplane which can be used for many uses and is still destructive to the enemy's troops on the ground and and deliver supplies for the forces.
At Ft. Leonard Wood all of the firing ranges are arranged around a couple small mountains. Between them is apparently another used by the Air Force. One day a couple of A10s rolled in hot above us and even when it's not pointed at you the sound of that gun is just visceral. I'm glad it's on our side
