Today I am testing the 3M Leather & Vinyl Repair Kit.
I am going to be testing it out on a brown piece of scrap vinyl.
I have never used a kit like this before and I am not any sort of expert.
This kit can supposedly be used on leather seats, center consoles, vinyl dashboards, vinyl seats, and some leather and vinyl door panels/interior pieces.
From Amazon:
"Kit repairs cuts, tears and burns in automotive leather and vinyl
Color matching guide helps customize the color
Textured grain papers help match coarse to smooth pattern
An inexpensive option for repairing minor damage
Complete kit includes supplies, tools and directions
Complete instructions included
Patching holes in leather and vinyl immediately improves the appearance of a car's interior and helps maintain the vehicle's value"
Thanks for watching!

  • I used this and had far better results. Took my time and used a heat gun instead. After I used the filler I sanded it down to smooth and feathered the area around it. Then using the pattern provided and pressing against the paint til dried. It came out almost perfect match. I’m about to buy again and repair a different part of my car.

    • do you sand it with just the paper in your hand or do you use anything to hold the sandpaper? How did you feather it?

      @ZareefHuq@ZareefHuq Жыл бұрын
    • @@ZareefHuq lightly sanded with sand paper in my hand. Once you sand down the filler I sanded the leather around it to kinda blend them together. It helped the transition from the existing leather to the design template provided.

  • Wool and paint: You want to mix _darker_ than the colour you're correcting. Lighter colours stand out, and also they dry into even brighter colours.

    @kebman@kebman Жыл бұрын
    • So if I had to do tan/beige you would recommend making it a darker shade? When it dries does it show lighter or darker? Thanks

      @michealjordan6754@michealjordan6754 Жыл бұрын
    • @@michealjordan6754yes mix darker beige and it will dry lighter with this type of paint. Just a quick Google search. Will tell you if the type of paint you’re using will dry, darker or lighter.

  • Instead of this expensive kit that I returned because I realized what it was you can use acrylic paint Walmart has it in arts and crafts. Some have a filler you can water down acrylic jel medium or use Elmer's Glue. That is exactly what's in these kits. You can even use satin finish acrylic spray paint. After you've painted it spray it with flat clear coat to stop it from coming off. The expensive kits don't bother telling you that.

  • Thx for sharing. Looks like at least one practice run for color and technique is required to get a quality result. Looks like it is suitable for small jobs where a world class finished repair is not the end goal. It may be worth a little more to get a kit with more technical guidance on color matching. It’s science and art just like paint matching.

  • I see that at this time that you made this video 3 years ago. However, I had already watched 👀 an official video by 3M on how to use this repair kit. It shows to allow the sealer and the color application to completely dry for at least 4 hours. THEN, apply the heated tool to the texture sheet to create the texture. 😊

  • I like this kit, but you need glasses. One could easily tell that the color match was terrible from the start. You said oh that matches really well, and the color on the video looked totally different in liquid form. I think if you had taken another look after you mixed it, you would have noticed that the liquid was much more Red than the original brown video. Thanks very much though for this video. I have to repair a Vintage kitchen chair that is black vinyl with a very small hole and this should work just fine. You did a nice job and this will help me out tremendously!
