  • Brandi Carlisle is responsible for a lot of Joni’s resurgence and I believe her recovery. She has been there every step of the way to encourage and give her hope.

  • Her story is amazing … starting with having polio as a kid and alone all day … never wanting to sing but just paint … however she got us boomers thru so many hard to describe things … foundation built in Laurel Canyon … only playing what she wanted to play … lived thru morgellians and then an anurism … and still standing singing for us all … stunning spirit ❤ thank you so much for all you have given us!

  • It's great to see how much Joni and her voice have come back. She's leaps and bounds above where she was just last summer in Newport. Now I find myself thinking/hoping there's still another album (or three) to look forward to in the future. "There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty... before the last revolving year is through." She couldn't have picked a more inspiring lyric for the occasion.

    • Ok…. I agree with your comments. I am amazed and delighted what a tough amazing Woman. I am going to be tacky but this Brandi person seems to get noticed through her association with Joni. Hope I’m wrong and she really is a true friend. Anyway Miss Joni is a true marvel and one tough broard and it was a joy to see and hear her again and I still believe that the las 4to 5 minutes in music come at the end of Paprika Planes after all these decades some music I really enjoy but not like those last few minutes! Anyway I’m truly amazed by her as usual.

    • @@susanjohnson2068 I hear where you're coming from and have had some of the same concerns, but I think Joni probably needed Brandi there to smooth out some of the rough patches when she started performing again. I imagine Brandi provided emotional support as much as vocal support... it can't have been easy for Joni to get back on stage after all she's been through. But with Joni's voice coming back, and her health apparently better than anyone would have expected it to be at this point, perhaps Brandi can now step back and let Joni have the stage to herself.

I don't really know her music but I just looked it up -- she has 9 Grammy awards -- most of them are from before her association with Joni. And after all, Brandi was the one booked as the closer of the Newport Folk Festival last summer and who brought Joni.

  • I'm 61 years old,I am an ex metal/funk/soul/fusion/folk guitar guy,a friend of mine James Vincent(Aorta,Azteca)to name a few plus countless musicians in between (Chaka Kahn being one of them) mentioned her awhile back,I FINALLY took the time and looked up a few video recordings of her music...truly one of the greats of our time..lyrically,the musicality of her voice,commanding of the stage,,what a pleasant surprise to say the least..and in this day and age EXTREMELY NEEDED...❤

When she "said" she "couldn't sing anymore', I think she "meant" she couldn't hold those notes out for eighteen beats and hit high C anymore ??? Yes, they could have given a bit more volume to her mike, everyone in that situation is very professional. Surely, she can't sing like she did when she was young, but she can sing his own way and choose the good song she wants of course! Yes Joni, sing it Your way! I have only one regret that I never saw her live in concert. In my country (Italy) she was only in the 80s and at that time I couldn't go to listen to her.   • Wow...I never thought we'd hear Joni sing in public again after her terrible illnesses...but wow she was absolutely wonderful here. Her voice was impeccable...I wonder and hope maybe we might get a new LP from Joni...Now that would be something to look forward to.. Music is the great healer...magic. ❤

  • I just love her. 5 yrs older than I - I sang a lot of her songs when I was in my 20s. And when I was in the early rehearsals for CANO - we listened to "Court & Spark" incessantly - along with "YES" and "Maria Muldaur." But as Canadians - Joni and Gordon were our touchstones . . .
