    • Do we really have to make this about Annie Lenox? No disrespect to her but when did she become a barometer for determining who’s legendary? Especially when you consider that Joni has been legendary for at least 50 years now. Which is before Lenox’s singing career even started

  • Joni swings this song to the moon! After all of her challenges, she doesn't try to reproduce the Joni of old; she takes what she has and paints a beautiful sonic picture using the amazing pallet of what she has now. I will be watching this many times in the coming months - Thank you Joni and PBS for posting this clip!

  • I never really heard the lyrics to this song until Joni LIVED it. Love her sarcasm and the way Eltons legendary bandmembers play in a " louche" kind of way that is Not their norm, to suit Jonis ACE interpretation. Not surprised Elton and David and Bernie LOVE it. So do I. Ms Carlyle does a great job subtly leading the band and singers to suit/support Joni - even a force of nature like Annie Lennox is staying " in the pocket".

    • @@mareshields9 I don't understand why there are talent show fan evil people, whose only goal is to humiliate the author and glorify the performer or a cover macker. John's version is perfect, but Elton's version is also perfect. She didn't rewrite the whole song. She sang the melody in a slow tempo like a ballad. And you can compare the original lyrics here: You could never know what it's like Your blood, like winter, freezes just like ice And there's a cold, lonely light that shines from you You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use And did you think this fool could never win? Well look at me, I'm a-comin' back again I got a taste of love in a simple way And if you need to know while I'm still standin' You just fade away Don't you know I'm still standin' better than I ever did? Lookin' like a true survivor, feelin' like a little kid And I'm still standin' after all this time Pickin' up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah) I'm still standin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah) Once, I never coulda hoped to win You're startin' down the road, leavin' me again The threats you made were meant to cut me down And if our love was just a circus, you'd be a clown by now You know I'm still standin' better than I ever did Lookin' like a true survivor, feelin' like a little kid And I'm still standin' after all this time Pickin' up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah) I'm still standin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah) Don't you know that I'm still standin' better than I ever did? Lookin' like a true survivor, feelin' like a little kid And I'm still standin' after all this time Pickin' up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah) I'm still standin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
