The Amazing Moment Elephant, Lundi Chases Buffalo at the Waterhole & Her Herd Come to Support

Lundi is not happy sharing the waterhole today and takes on the role of dam guardian for her herd. Khanyisa’s surrogate mother and mother to Mambo, Lundi embarks on a solo mission to chase away three buffalo who have wandered down to the dam to drink. Lundi attempts to scare the buffalo off but isn’t fully successful as one buffalo proves stubborn and stands his ground. Lundi’s back-up team move in to offer support and soon even more elephants join in. The buffalo give up and eventually head off, with Pisa offering a strong attack too. Lundi celebrates with a victory dance and trumpet!
(This scene was filmed at one of the dams in our reserve while rangers were visiting with safari guests from Jabulani - whom you can hear in the background.)

@mortalclown3812 I was getting kinda nervous when the water buffalo wasn't intimidated by Lundi! If the buffalo had challenged Lundi, couldn't it have hurt Lundi? Usually they run off. This staredown was intense! Take care 🐘

Looked like Lundi and her cohorts were having a little confab to decide on the next move. Lundi must have said, "I'll handle this!!" Her dance at the end was cute and funny. With all that excitement she should sleep well tonight!😂

Lundi like Tokwe and Jabu..have such pure hearts! She is fearless and protective to the max! Unlike Sebakwe the great protector..Lundi has her own approach that is heartwarming! So much beauty in seeing the herd rally around her! If only she knew that there is a new baby coming her way! Phabeni will enrich this herd...and make their bond even tighter! Those Buffalo are one of very few animals that will stand their ground against an elephant, lion or whatever. Much respect for those beasts that are sometimes referred to as Black Death.
The Buffalo is thirsty. At least, Lundi is respectful enough to allow the buffalo to drink. ❤ I love my ellies!

Lundi is terrific! The little buffalo didn't seem scared at all of Lundi. But, that Cutie Pie Pisa sure did send it packing! We gotta keep our eyes on Pisa. She is showing some real bold moves! Loved the last scene with Lundi taking a plunge in the dam very happy with herself!

Lundi's staring contest with the buffalo was great. The buffalo did not seem too threatened until Lundi's back-up showed up. Smart move on the buffalo's part when they decided to move on. Very enjoyable video, thanks.

It's so funny when the backup team arrives. A big waterhole has plenty of room for all. The buffalo seemed friendly enough that all could enjoy it together. Lundi just couldn't back down once she started the stand-off.

Gotta say I kinda chuckled watching our sweet Lundi assert herself. She is showing everyone her personality and proving that she is a matriarch in the making. That’s one tough strong female and I admire her because she didn’t back down. You could almost sense her thought process just by watching her body language. Lundi is quite marvellous, she is one of my favourites along with Timisa and Pisa. Their personalities are so unique and obvious. Watching these elephants grow up has been such a wonderful experience, even if it’s just through the amazing videos. Getting to learn about them and love them. Each video they grab another piece of my heart ❤

Elephant says "It's my turn for water now." Buffalo says "I'm not done yet!". Herd says "Yes, you're done now."
This is a wonderful interaction - you can see both elephant and buffalo thinking and working it out. Buffalo gets hist a long drink and then pushed his luck - then the backup herd arrive, form a plan, and work in unison to move the buffalo along. I also noticed how big and strong the entire herd looks all together like that. Great video!

Such a great video! Lunde is master at peacefully clearing the watering hole with gentle but building intensity without too much drama. Love the way the herd waits to enter water until she has cleared the area. They gradually organize and increase backup. WOULD THAT HUMAN BEINGS WERE SO SKILLFUL RATHER THAN STARTING WARS!!! We have much to learn from the elephant herds.
