  • What bothers me is Tyrion doesn't even try to counter Randyll's accusations. Moreover, according to what I've seen, House Tarly were Targaryen loyalists, meaning this whole thing with him not recognizing Daenerys as a born and bred Targaryen is just another layer of poor writing and rushed storytelling.

I think in both cases it probably makes sense because they are both loyalists who flipped allegiances because their liege lord is backed by “savages”. • Her family ruled Westeros for 300 years, before this battle the most Daenerys had ever seen of Westeros was Dragonstone, literally a drop in the ocean. She may have been born in Westeros but that doesn't make her Westerosi. The Tarlys were not loyal to the Targaryens, they were loyal to the Crown. The Targaryens ruled not by divine right but by right of conquest, 300 years ago Aegon proved they were powerful enough to rule Westeros, 30 years ago Robert Baratheon proved they weren't.

    • @@kartingkid43not born nor raised in Westeros but raised like a Westerosi by Westerosi knights (Willem Darry and Jorah Mormont). More than that, raised as a Westerosi *highborn*, just like lord Tarly. These two have more in common amongst themselves than with 99% of the population in Westeros: code of honor, aristocratic culture, belief in personal loyalty to Houses with sigils, the right of conquest (which Dany is proving in front of his face), and other warrior-like values, they speak the exact same language and use the same type of titles... the argument of Dany being a foreigner falls apart as soon as they interact just a little. The idea of "nah you weren't born and raised here" doesn't apply for highborns who are born and raised and travel across many different territories. Plus Cersei is a Lannister of the Westerlands, a close neighbor and direct territorial rival to the Tarlys now that the Tyrells are gone, while Daenerys as Queen would seat in King's Landing, far away from the Tarly seat at Hornhill... or Highgarden. Randylm pledging fealty to Daenerys could be rewarded by her raising the Tarly house to the status of Lords of Highgarden and Wardens of the South, just like how the conquering Targaryen from 300 years ago raised the Tyrells into that same position after they killed the Gardners of Highgarden in battle by burning them alive with their dragons. Exact same situation. Tarly has everything to gain and nothing to lose (not even his honor). There is literally no reason for Tarly to be so stubborn... not even the "savage army" thing. Cersei and Stannis (to whom Lord Tarly had sworn fealty) had hired sellswords from Essos, guys who fight only for the highest bidder for as long the war lasts, unlike the Dothraki and Unsullied who have a blood oath to Daenerys and would fight to the death for her - more Westerosi-like honor than the foreign sellswords of the other kings Tarly swore allegiance to. Again, no reason for Tarly's stubbornness... just bad writing from guys who paid zero attention and respect to the source material.

Other comments have pointed out some of the issues but Tarly says Daenerys doesn't have ties to the seven kingdoms when her family literally conquered it, Tarly even served Daenerys father and went to war for him, having been the only man that drove off Robert Baratheons army during the rebellion. He also should have known that Daenerys was forced to flee during the same said war. Giving how quickly and easily he decided to serve Cersei, too, knowing who she is and what she did, him acting like he has honor or standards is highly ironic. • The problem with Dany when she gets to Westeros is she doesn't know anything really about the place, it's people, their systems and beliefs and rules. For instance, burning being outlawed after the Targaryens because understandably it's incredibly fucked up, Stannis is extremely controversial for that. So Dany comes, and she hasn't done herself favours already by bringing/allying with: -The dothraki, the mongols of the middle ages world, brutal rapists, pillagers, slavers, things she claims to abhore, who are brutal and incredibly vicious, have no understanding or desire to live peacefully with others and look down on any other people, and only believe in their superiority. Meaning even if she does get the throne, no one will like her much for her vast Dothraki who will brutally murder, sack, raid etc the land during her conquest and then afterwards she will have the problem of trying to control them from taking women, enslaving people, raping and such and generally doing whatever they want to the poor smallfolk, because I'm 100% sure the Dothraki haven't changed that much. -The unsullied, a known slave army( now ex slaves but she bought them, thus making them still slaves loyal to their bidder who is Dany), who despite her claims, are not totally free to make their own choices because they have been conditioned such they obey orders without question, so when she says their free, and offers them to join her they do because they see it as a order. Won't win her favours having slave armies. -Jorah Mormont, a known slaver who is barely remorseful for what he did or even understands the atrocity, and who is a exile having fled to avoid his fate making him a criminal. -Tyrion, he killed his father, this is fact, while not everyone believe he killed Jofrrey, he did kill Tywin, he's a kinslayer a big no no and is a Lannister thus the Riverlands, Vale, Stormlands and North will hate him. - Varys, a guy who has served three kings at least, bouncing seamlessly between Targaryens, Baratheons, to Lannisters, he's distrusted heavily and would hardly be liked. -Ellaria Sand, the murderous harpy who killed her lovers brother( therefore her brother in law equivalent), a innocent child under the fostering of Dorne which is like guest right, had her nephew murdered by his own cousins, the guards and therefore those of Dorne, and caused the Lannisters to set Euron on them, resulting in massive casualties, even if she had lived she would not be seen as a right person to have murdered. -The Greyjoy siblings, who particularly in Yara's case, raided, pillaged, murdered and sacked the North, commiting severe atrocities and broke the agreement of peace,( Theon did attack, but he did so rather restrained, since he essentially got in there, got Bran to surrender, then took it with 1 casualty before the Boltons massacred everything.)This will not help her either, the ironborn are despised throughout the land and no person in the north will like the greyjoys getting independance and rewards from a invading queen who's father executed two Starks and who's brother raped Lyanna. So you see, Already she has set herself up as a foreign invader and usurper by having a army and council of almost entirely foreigners who know nothing of Westeros, or people who are hated or known enemies like Jorah or Greyjoys. Then, she has no knowledge or understanding of things. Like the mad king. While yes, Jamie broke his oath he was right to kill the mad king, everyone agrees there, his sin was in not stopping Elia's death, but Dany only sees him as a murderer who unfairly killed her dad, despite her never even knowing him and his awful deeds being famous. Then when Jon comes, she thinks she can just tell him the oaths sworn by Torrhen Stark and it's all done. She doesn't take into account that by kidnapping and raping his aunt, murdering his grandfather and uncle, one of which violated the ancient right of trial by combat, calling for Ned's head despite no fault of his own, the Targaryens forfeited the oaths. She doesn't offer any real assurances or apologies, she's very quick to apologise for Aerys but does nothing to assure Jon nothing will happen to the North. She also is incredibly untactful when Jon comes, calling him lord instead of king shows she feels superior and that there is no negotiation, if she had respected his title then she comes off as a equal and valuable ally, not a arrogant self proclaimed queen. Then, she also has no knowledge of her image portrayed. Despite her claims, she's not coming off as a saviour but as Aegon the conqueror, someone who no one actually liked. Burning people like she does is making her jus look like more of the mad kings evil daughter, it's not allowed by law so she comes off as again a unjust tyrant. She had no tact, as she seems to believe everyone must just see her as queen or die, and has no interest in prisoners despite the heavy benefit it gives, making her more merciful then what she does here by ending the Tarlys since she had no idea Sam was alive or even existed. And of course, her over reliance and willingness to use her dragons to get her way, making her far too similar to the evil Targaryen rulers who everyone wanted gone. Also, her lack of understanding that all her families actions may not endear her to the North, or that they may wish to no longer be under a southern ruler, after the awful Lannisters who directly killed Ned, orchestrated the abominal red wedding killing their king and the lady of winterfell, and took Sansa Stark captive beating her and marrying her off to a Lannister.I mean, she seems very confused why no one is happy she's there, and why Sansa for instance wants a independant North, not 100% with no contact but just to rule by themselves and since the Targs broke the oaths that had the North lose it's independance in the first place, it means they have a right to rule once more therefore, you can tell she just sees them all as slaves and the poor needing to be freed by her.

The minute Daenerys is slighted it’s dracarys and that’s it. Even if she didn’t lose Missandei and Rhaegal she still didn’t have the experience or decision making to be a good leader. She had dragons. Jon was a warrior and United people and was willing to die for what he believed in. That’s how he earned respect. People feared Daenerys and respected Jon.

      @Delogros@Delogros10 ай бұрын
    • @@DelogrosIt’s not a matter of authority to send someone to the Wall. Tywin Lannister sent Targaryen loyalists to the Wall and they never swore to him or called him theyr liege or king. Dany offers then a pardon despite then being turncloaks, and they refuse that along with refusing the Wall. If these dips hits want to die out if loyalty to Cersei Lannister, a blasphemous kinslayer, then that’s on them.

      @MorallyDubiousFrog@MorallyDubiousFrog10 ай бұрын
    • @@MorallyDubiousFrog Obviously it is a question of authority, Tarleys entire issue is that to go to the wall is to submit to the idea that Dany has the authority to send him to the wall... It's literally what he says. if others went to the wall to save their hides or for whatever reason then that's up to them and is entirely irritant to an entirely different set of events and people. Not turncloaks as already discussed, they stayed loyal to the Crown which was an entirely reasonable and lawful choice. So you would be pro 1940's Germans gassing French soldiers who refused to serve in the German army? My big BIG problem with this is Dany should be better, Robert Baratheon took 3 lords captive in his first battles of his rebellions, he kept them imprisoned and one by one through sheer force of character and personality turned all 3 to his side and in fact all 3 died for him in the battles that happened afterwards... Is it so wrong to expect Dany a character who has far more of those quality's for instilling loyalty and love to be at least as good as Robert fricken Baratheon? Because that should be the low bar of expectation.

      @Delogros@Delogros10 ай бұрын
    • @@Delogros It’s not a question of authority. Tywin Lannister was able to send Targaryen loyalists to the Wall, but they never accepted him or Robert as their rulers or kings. They are turncloaks. The Reach declared for Daenerys, and the. Randyll Tarly went to King’s Landing and made a deal with the Lannisters whee he would support them in exchange for being made Warden of the South. Loyalty had nothing to do with it. Your WW2 analogy is in no way comparable. Dany killing the Tarlys is the French executing men who abandoned France to join up with the German army and refused to accept a pardon. Robert convinced fellow Stormlords to join him in rebellion. Those lords hadn’t previously been on his side and then turned cloak in exchange for a reward.

    • @@MorallyDubiousFrog i've already replied to the same authority argument before and I'm not going to keep going around in circles. Other then they didn't betray the Crown sure, total turn cloaks LOL - Doesn't matter one tiny bit who the Tyrells declared for, that isn't how a feudal system works. Already answered the loyalty point and greed in another post and I'm not going to argue in curcles. Sure it is, it takes 4-6 months to train a WW2 soldier, it takes 10 weeks to train a soldier in the medieval period if you are wanting to give them very good training, archery of course is a separate issue. No it's not at all, the Tarly's where prisoners of war, not turn cloaks as you keep incorrectly labeling them and should have been taken back to dragonstone as prisoners, you have to do some pretty extreme mental gymnastics to make their murders OK. As I say, those lords didn't owe there loyalty primarily to house Baratheon otherwise he wouldn't have had to bribe them now would he, thanks for proving my point.

    • Plus the xenophobia is inconsistent. He was fine with pledging fealty to Stannis and Cersei, who hired foreign mercenaries who are only loyal to the highest bidder as long as the war lasts, and actually avoid fighting as much as they can to save their own skin, and pillage the land and brutalize the peasants at the smallest chance. But the foreign warriors of Daenerys, who would die fighting for her out of blood oaths (Dothraki) or out of life-long gratitude for liberating them from slavery (Unsullied), and thus show more honor than the mercenaries of Stannis and Cersei? Nah these are savages and whoever brings them to Westeros is a traitor, according to Lord Tarly the Hypocrite. Absolute inconsistency.
