Wights in the crypt: Break through solid stone coffins. Wight in a simple wooden box: Perfectly contained.
I sort of get the vibe that the Dead, while generally capable of great feats of strength, lack direction or focus unless in the vicinity of a White Walker. So as the Wight got further south it got less aggressive in it's box because it can't spot a target and there's no Walker commading it to break free.
So what. Enjoy the show or not. Its not real life.

Yeah. This. You know, some of the clips you see on KZhead show really good writing with great dialog then you watch the whole thing and it's just one face palm after another; everything is deux ex machina and when it seems that someone is cornered and how are they going to get out of this? An even worse plot crisis via deux ex machina. Sets up for some great scenes tho'.

Indeed. I love how the writers consulted medieval battle experts. I mean I'm sure that in the middle ages, they would put all their troops in front of their castles and let the cavalry have a frontal assault with no infantry support. Then making a choke point, so that all your troops are stranded on the wrong side of the choke point. Then putting all the women and children in the crypt, where they would be safe from the undead. Best tactics ever. I wish one of those wights would've got the writers before they rhino-fucked seasons 6,7 and 8.

I mean they couldn’t anticipate Melisandre just spawn out of nowhere to buff them with flaming swords lol. So their original plan was just charging without even suitable weapons to kill at least someone? Wtf

The long night should’ve been a few episodes long. Insane how much they hyped them up throughout the seasons.
It should've been a couple SEASONS long. Ned Stark just traveling to Kings Landing and getting butchered was one whole season. Had Dumb and Dumber been responsible for that, all of season 1 would've been a couple scenes long lol.

Considering how many have people have died north of the wall in the last some thousand of years over 200,000 as of now is likely. Add to that everybody that would die between the wall and Kings Landing if they won the Battle of Winterfell the number would skyrocket still.
I mean, in their world, those are insane numbers. Dany had a ton of confidence when she had 8,000 unsullied. Now their enemy is 12 1/2 times that size. Anyone in Jaime's position would have been absolutely bewildered.

I remember when I thought this "war" was going ot be the greatest thing on TV. Several episodes of beloved characters fighting for their lives, and dying. Several suspenseful moments leaving me feeling uncertain about the fates of specific characters, all while building up to the final climax between our heroes and the king of the undead. But no, we got a bunch of BS, people faffing about, and then the king getting 1 shot.
I have to admit that just happen a bit too too fast / prematurely. Like if the writers wanted to forget this issue and move on.

@@cheifwaffle Just because she was 'right' in that they defeated the undead at Winterfell and suffered some heavy casualties doing it...doesn't mean it was a smart decision. Still, it raises a point....we all kind of believe that humanity will unite when faced with some outside alien threat. Cersei says no.

What I don't get is why nobody moves to shield Cersei as the wight is running toward her. I mean, I can accept that, say, Jaime was shocked, but what about the Mountain? Isn't he now more beast than man due to the magic to preserve his body? His only purpose is to obey Cersei, or so we're led to believe.

I like that the zombie stays so quiet in the box until the last second. Even the Night King couldn't take away his flair for the dramatic.

Yeah, look at the other characters. They are dressed like it's spring or early autumn, but Jon Snow is dressed for a siberian winter night.

In the books it starts snowing in kl when jon is killed and a little after cersei's walk of attonement

What I dont understand is why the wight didnt go crazy while the hound carried the box. Was it waiting for its cue? It wanted to make a dramatic entrance? It was napping?
Imagine - that thing travelled days if not weeks to get to King's Landing. And you can see by the Hound's reactions that he was waiting for it to jump straight away.
If you pause at 1:03, you can see the Wight looks like it was stuffed into the box very tightly so that it’s unable to move. When Clegane kicks it over forcefully like that it sets it free.
Honestly I'm willing to let that one slide. I can believe that up North it is the Night King's presence or power to compels them to march ever forward, while this far south the Wight just sort of wanders aimlessly or enters a stupor until it has line-of-sight on a target.

When I first saw the scene I honestly expected it to be just dead, like actually dead, just a corpse falling on the floor because it's too far away from the White Walkers. But oh well.
I haven't read the books, but from what I've heard about Euron they really got him wrong in this scene. Euron was a scary guy because he was fascinated with anything magical that could give him more power. He had been around the world, to places no one else had been too, and knew things they didn't. He wouldn't be scared of the White Walkers, he would be fascinated, and wonder how he could control that power. He wouldn't be content to merely survive the Winter by hiding, he wants to conquer. Also... "Can they swim?" "No...but they also don't need to breathe. So they can just walk on the bottom of the ocean I guess. Plus they can fly, they kind of took one of my dragons."
Wasn't it a ruse in the end? He came back to defend Cersei, and she admitted that he left according to their plan, only to return when advantageous? It has been a while since I watched, but that's how I remember it.

A LOT of the magical elements from the books have been cut out to make the show more realistic (less fantasy), so I have no problem with show Euron getting scared of wights. But book Euron would just shrug it off.
In the books they also DEFINITELY DO walk under the water. Jon doesn't actually go to Hardome in the books, but he gets a report of it and one of the things mentioned was "dead things in the water."

What Jon should have said, when asked if they can swim: "No. But... their creators can, and could command them to operate ships. Even ignoring that, where their masters walk, water turns to ice."
That, and he didn't think to mention that everyone killed by the army of the dead gets resurrected as a new member of the army. Which means that if the North went up against the army and lost, Cersei and Euron would still have to face the northern army, but this time they'd be damn near invincible. At this point, I think Cersei was too far gone with her arrogance to be convinced to join the north, but Euron might have and Jamie might have led a whole coup of the Lannister army instead of going alone
@@splaar Honestly, if Jon simply opened up about the ability for the White Walkers to ignore the oceans and the resurrection/necromancy thing, the entirety of Westeros would've probably united one way or another. Cersei can't be _that_ dumb, especially since everyone else would be joining in and could just flood King's Landing if she would be that much of an arse. If Tywin were still alive, he'd probably reel Cersei in, leading to at least temporary unity.

Worst part about this scene is the Wall was built with magic that lets no dead thing pass, and yet they walked through the wall with a wight, perfectly intact? Jon even runs into Benjen stark IN THE SAME SEASON who tells him that he can’t cross the wall due to being ‘half-wight’… how was this detail missed

I mean the last season near killed the whole franchise. The whole thing went from developed characters plotting and counter plotting with what information they had and the resultant messy clashes to a 12 year olds fan fic.
Used to think her rage was not developed well but a line from the lord of light's high priestess claimed Dani would burn thousands of people when she came to help Tyrion save Mareen from slavers, the only GOd in this show to be consistent is the lord of light think the plan set by him was always to have Dani burn kings landing because so many there worshipped other Gods this was all why he brought back John and the three eyed raven had to know this it's why he did not stop things from happening after night king was killed
1 bad script is more dangerous than a million undead....

It didn't have to be. That guy pulled the chain at the right time on purpose which wouldn't be that hard.
I kept thinking that the chain would snap it's bones and the wight keep running.
Hound let it get close to Cersei on purpose. The man wanted to give her a good scare, but pulls the wight back before it gets within touching distance.
That was ok in a sea of not oks. The Hound had paced out the distance when he had his little heart to heart with his bro.

It would have made a much more interesting story if Cersei had kept to the truce. The conflicting loyalties amongst all of the kingdoms' fighters and rulers while having to work together would have been TV gold.

It also would have made more sense. She isn't an idiot. She should have known that if they lost because she didn't help, she and everyone else would die. And that if she betrayed them and didn't help stop them, that she would then need to deal with a force that was able to defeat the walkers on it's own. Keeping to the truce was the best play to make so she could scheme and plot her ultimate victory later. Yet they wrote her like an inept fool for some reason here.

I need to watch all that mess again but last I checked she *did* refrain from fighting them til they defeated the walkers. Truce doesn't mean you send reinforcements, it just means you don't fight the enemy army.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cersei still doesn't really believe it. She's Westeros's ultimate political animal, for whom everything is a factional struggle for total victory. She would think that the wight is some sort of trick - a wizard offstage magicking a dead body, a projected illusion, or a really clever puppet. Just that and nothing more. She wouldn't believe that Jon, Tyrion, Daenerys, et al are telling the truth, because nobody tells the truth when there's anything to gained by lying - and there's always something to gained by lying.
But Jaime can get through to her, and Tyrion (among others) can get through to him.
IMO you always lose when you lie, you pay for it immediately or you pay for it later but you never truly gain anything from it. Cersei was always too arrogant and stupid to figure that one out though.
@@dante58 No, you get out of it by telling another, bigger lie, or a more confusing one. or a less checkable one; and you just keep on going. Any con man knows that, and many politicians do. Making Stuff Up is how they deal with the world, it's how they win. Indeed, lying is a point of pride for them; it's an act and ritual of dominance to create their own "Truth" from pure talk and force it upon others. To them, telling the truth is an admission of failure, it's something only losers do - losers and those too stupid to invent or tell or sell a good lie. Some even lie with nothing to gain by it, just because lying is what they do. (I could name someone like that, someone I'm sure you've heard of.)

Imagine if, when everyone at Winterfell gets ready to fight. The Night King just ignores everyone there and takes his dragon south to turn everyone in King's Landing. Making a new army behind them.
This may seem like a great plan at first glance but if you think about it, the Night King would have had to kill them first, and unless he killed them himself one by one he wouldn't be able to raise an army there. Remember anyone who died of fire wouldn't be able to be turned, which is why the wildlings burned their dead. So using the dragon would have just created a Kings Landing full of burning buildings and bodies

I love how this scene and everyone's reactions show their true colours. Jaime is scared shitless but realises he needs to step up and help the collective good. Cersei is scared but doubles down on being selfish. Qyburn is morbidly curious yet uneasy. Euron is scared and wants to look out for himself, showing his lack of loyalty.
Euron was faking though, his whole thing was a ruse to trick them into thinking they lost the fleet, so he could suprise Dany.
Cercei was right tho, since the north beat them in a single night of battle, they did make a big fuss over not much at all and she was totaly right to tell them it's their problem.

One thing I do actually love about this scene is how Euron Greyjoy says he’s genuinely scared of them. If he had said some shit like ah no problem we can take em I would have been like BRUH shut up 😂
Book Euron would never be scared of something like that. In the books he is waaay more mysterious and lovecraftian. He knows about demonic entities and seen stuff that not even most enlightened maesters know of.

Euron turning away in one second and Cersei's little speech, without even bothering to size up the threat first (or pretending to), are the epitome of the bad writing that plagued S7 and S8. Their characters would have never responded that way.
Just seeing the fear on The Hound's face would be enough to show concern before the reveal.
This never gets old.
Props to the hound for messing the wight up relatively easily with a watching audience.

I like how Jamie is the only person who noticed the look of pure fear on the Hounds face. Also I like how dragons glass was the ultimate weakness to the White Walkers. There was clearly at a minimum of 1 dragon that could make an unlimited supply of their Kryptonite in a ring around every major settlement, or around I don't know, the final battle location... "Oh no a horde of undead monsters. Welp guys, heres hundreds of dragon glass arrowheads. Have fun for the next 30 minutes."

I wonder what would of happened if they had made wildfire and spread it across the ground from the Wall to Winterfell and then just igniting it just before the battle started. Since wildfire is not like normal fire I don't find the Nightkings army would be immune to it. Shame all that premade wildfire went to waste cause of Cersei's anger to prevent her son getting married and prevent him from being controlled by the church.
Wildfire goes out eventually. The dead can wait.

I believe that's what the wild fire was actually meant for but some certain bitch and brother decided to use it to win battles.

I remember when I was first watching this scene as it aired. I was SURE that when Clegane kicked over the box the wight would just flop out dead and they would be a laughing stock. I'm so very glad that I was wrong, this scene is easily one of my favourites in the whole show
Got to like The Hound. All his scenes were interesting, esp with Arya.
As I recall, in the books Commander Mormont does send the severed hand of the wright that attacked him to King's Landing as proof, but by the time it gets there it stopped moving, so it just becomes another reason to mock his plea for more help manning the wall.
A few people probably got a good scare during that scene. :)

I remember first watching this wondering why the wight was so calm when the hound was carrying and dropped the box? Just a few minutes before with the gaurd, the box was hit and the wight went nuts. Maybe the wight was napping?

The Hound carries the box and the wight is as quiet as a church mouse. In the previous episode the box is tapped and the wight is bugging out. You can burn them. Jon establishes how extremely flammable they are in the first season. However in the not so Long Night a bunch of them are supposed to be able to snuff out the fire trench despite being walking gas cans. Also the Dothraki have a great respawn timer.
For the trenches you could give them the benefice of the doubt and say those were frozen and covered with snow. But yeah there's no reason for it to quiet down, it's an undead it doesn't get tired of banging on the box... And yeah the dothraki cooldown needs a nerf, tho their effectiveness looks to be rng dependant.
@@dearcastiel4667 There is 0 explanation for the Dothraki coming back and the show doesn't even try to make excuses. They aren't even necessary at the final battle either so why are they even brought back!?!?!? Gives the impression that the show is deliberatly shooting itself in the side of the head, and wants us to watch while it happens

@@Destiny87 yes Jon is honorable, hence why she asked him, Dany could just say "i order you to stay in the north" then as soon as they leave she could say " now i order you to join us in the war" Jon being loyal to Dany would most likely not like Dany snaking Cersei but he would still follow Danys orders because he never gave his word to do anything other than to follow Dany

It's insane how badly they screwed up the ending of this show. They did so well for so long just to rush the ending.
If GoT developed from this moment it would’ve had a great final season. At this very moment everything was fixable and a very nice storyline.
The built up the long night and the white walkers for 6 seasons as some big threat and they all died in one episode...it was all rushed they definitely could've spent two seasons on the arc before the final war

i disagree. I thought them going all the way beyond the wall was stupid. I like how it was executed, but it was a stupid decision.
Apparently that was the plan but they wanted to cut an entire season from the run so they crammed two seasons into one making the mess we got

@@mikerzisu9508 how did the wights get Viserion out of the water? Water isn't really an issue for them or maybe it just wasn't once for the scene but either way we've seen them go underwater and retrieve a dragon
@@sandamonkey1436 that scene was a bit far fetched, but I think what they did was they held onto the chain and some of them sacrificed themselves to fall into the water and attach the chain to Viserion. The rest of the walkers pulled him out. But they definitely could not swim. That is why Jon and the group were protected in the north when they went to steal the wight.
As I understood it, they cannot swim in the ocean, because the magic that animates them is not powerful enough and the drowned god will not let them pass into his domain. So even if they can swim in a lake or river, they can't reach the iron islands or dragonstone.

A previous souce that since been gone claimed the fight with the night king was gonna drag from the wall to the bloody gate in the vale - most notable gendry would kill the ice dragon with a dragon glass spear to the inside of the mouth. Jon would kill the night king with assistance from sam. And brienne would die from suatained wounds from defending sansa

i’m glad the queen agreed to help out and join a truce. shows that she was really reasonable and also honorable. i’ve never seen this show, but i’m sure she’s one of the most beloved characters do to her caring about her kingdom so much.
I enjoyed the show, worth the watch. The queen agreed to the truce with traitorous intentions.
She never sent her truce! All she did was plotting against Dragon Queen and Starks! Right after finishing their war against white walkers, she would be ready for them!
