The Sims 4 is far too easy, so I've started an attempt to mod the game's difficulty. This is just the beginning of what I hope will be a useful mod, but I can use your help.

    • Along with Carl's mod add LittleMsSams community lot trait Entrance fees on Community Lot. When playing rags to riches with an empty lot, you can not just pop in the gym and take a free shower. Now it there was a mod that could add a taxi fee everytime you traveled to a different lot.

    • @@suzannea6540 taxi fee? what if I drove my imaginary car there or biked there?

      @amazonz8590@amazonz85902 жыл бұрын
    • @@amazonz8590 For more realism, people don't have imagnary cars. Sims should be able to buy bikes before cars. There are no cars in Sims. If they travel with someone, they could get a lift. To make things harder, they can visit any lot they can walk to. If they can't walk to a lot, they need other type of transportation. A lift from a friend, buy a bike, and yes I wish you could buy a car in Sims. If people don't have transportation, they usually have to buy a bus ticket, get a taxi, or uber which all costs. I thought to make rags to riches more challenging that to travel somewhere you can not walk or to a different world that the sim would need to pay for a taxi. If the sim has a bike they can go anywhere in the world they live in. Would still have to pay for a taxi to visit a lot in another world. Just adds to a rags to riches challenge, or if you just want to to add to what your sims pay for. The sims don't need to even pay for their cell phone service or internet connection for the computers and laptops.

    • A life simulation shouldn't be about suffering. If you live your entire life without any enjoyment, you shouldn't be alive at all. In the Sims 1 it was impossible to have actual fun without your Sims dying from low needs. When they added the ability to leave your lot, you would literally have to come back 5 Sim minutes later because suddenly you're starving and exhausted. That's NOT how a game should be. Ever.

      @nyxnightmare3542@nyxnightmare35422 жыл бұрын
    • @@nyxnightmare3542 I think what they're trying to say is that there should be consequences in the game, not necessarily that you shouldn't be able to find any enjoyment ever. It's so easy to get money, so easy not to die, so easy to build relationships with other Sims, so easy to game a lot of the systems in the game. A life simulator should be somewhere in the middle-far from where the game is now. I can't even find any satisfaction in playing the normal game because of how easy everything is, so I don't have anything to actually devote my attention to in live mode. It's become a building simulator for me.

  • The sad moodlet for death is a really important one that needs tweaking. One of my sims died and left behind a wife, 2 kids, and their spouses who all had max relationship with the dead sim. Sad for 24 hours, overridden when they saw a nice painting.

    @Zoe_C95@Zoe_C952 жыл бұрын
    • To be fair, there ARE times after the death of someone you love that something as simple as a painting can make you happy enough to be okay for a while. But THAT doesn’t last long, and the sadness comes back. I think the issue with the moodlets is more about how the sad moodlet is overriden so drastically that it’s like it just doesn’t exist anymore. The crappy moodlets don’t last long enough, and most of the happy moodlets are too inconsequential to be as powerful as they are or to last as long as they do.

      @racheeerach@racheeerach2 жыл бұрын

  • the difficulty mods looks nice, I'll look into it next time I play. The sims 4 doesn't hold up when you abuse the game mechanics to their fullest extent and I really don't want to "pretend" exploitive mechanics don't exist. obviously you have a lot of work cut out for attempting to balance such a broken game but I have 2 suggestions for realm of magic: If there is a way to disable the duplication of certain items it could balance the spell significantly (potions and high value items like jungle artifacts come to mind), or alternatively reducing the spells success rate or charge gain using it. The other balance idea was to remove free potions from learning spells and reduce the number of spells learnable from sages, this way you actually have to craft your god tier potions and search for god tier spell tombs. Obviously I haven't looked into the code so I don't know how difficult it would be to implement these changes and like I said are just suggestions, if you find them too impractical you can simply ignore this comment as lacking knowledge.

    • I've been using the mod for almost a week now, and my overall opinion is that the emotional impacts do make it a bit harder (the negative moodlets lasting longer), but the financial aspect hasn't really made it that more challenging, at least not for the two single Sims I've been playing. Maybe if I made a larger household it would be more impactful? Do you think cutting the income even more would make it harder?

  • Sounds like a good idea. Even if it was just adjusting the prices of every item in the game. Every little adjustment you mentioned sounds helpful to improve the game. I like your idea of extending the time that negative moodlets last.

    @andrewmoeller1987@andrewmoeller19872 жыл бұрын
  • I like the spirit of this, however I am confused by what the point is in both cutting the income by half, and doubling costs. It feels like a roundabout way to get to 400% change in income-to-cost. Wouldn't it be easier to control with a single variable that moves just the income, or just the cost, to get to that 400% change? It would also be easier I think to allow players to modify to their own tastes if they could change that one variable on the fly to anything they want, from a modest 110% increase in the cost of things, to a crazy hard 900% increase for the ultimate rags to riches? I also agree that moods are too easy but I think each one of the mood modifiers is going to have to be tuned more specifically. Increasing the length of time they affect a sim is good, but in reality the effect of something should be strongest and worst in the immediate, with a tapering effect over time as people learn to cope with the situation. For example powerful sadness for six days (assuming a normal game length) doesn't make sense to me, but a powerful sadness for 2-3 days, and a lesser sadness for another 2-3 days would make better sense. I'm also not sure that it should be universal in terms of age. A child whose grandparent dies, shouldn't find themselves crushed by sadness for the majority of their life stage, it's not particularly realistic. Same for toddlers given that they don't have a strong amount of coping mechanisms to work with.

    • I was about to say the same thing about income and taxes.

      @northernseeker1822@northernseeker18222 жыл бұрын
    • I thought he said that halving the income will EFFECTIVELY double the prices. Meaning he's not actually altering the prices of items themselves, but the changes he's making to the income will essentially make the items cost more in relation to income. So it would be a 200% change, rather than a 400% one.

      @slowlorax3141@slowlorax31412 жыл бұрын
    • Incomes are half only bills are doubled not the cost of every item in the game as well

  • This is a really good idea, this would knock out around 6-10 mods in my "Must have" folder (the bulk of them being moodlet duration, but career tweaks and ingredients requirement mods, as well); this would literally eliminated mod updating Hell. I'm currently done with the sims 4, I have been since 2019, and I just don't feel motivated to try it; but this mod is super convincing, and I'm sure would solve half of my problems I have with the sims 4 as the mod is, right now. Maybe some day in the far future, when I'm taking a nostalgia trip to the older sims (possibly 4), I'll definitely download your mod, and use it like a life line!

  • Thank you for doing this Carl; it's a lot of effort, I'm sure many people will love it. Could I suggest you allow users to select a difficulty level out of, say, 5 levels, kind of like the graphics quality levels you see in many games? It would be a quick way to experiment with the mod. If it seems too difficult, knock it down a notch, and vice-versa. After that, one could get into more fine-grained adjustments. Good luck with the development efforts!

  • This is awesome!! I've been struggling to make the game harder, so I'm super excited about this mod!! Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into making this!! I think a cool addition to the mod would be some kind of "memory" system. Like, if a loved one passes away, after the sim has recovered from the initial 6 days of sadness, maybe the intense sad moodlet randomly pops up again for a brief time once in a while because the sim "remembers" the loss of their loved one. For an added complexity to a "memory" system: Maybe each random return of that moodlet would vary in intensity and/or duration, but with an approximate trendline of getting less intense/less duration as more time goes on. Like in real life, since we never really forget that stuff, it just gets easier to deal with over time. I think something like that would be so realistic and cool! I know absolutely nothing about programming though, so idk how difficult a task this idea would be
