Actually it's pretty cheap to put up an aluminum awning your self. I went to a local aluminum place in town, bought about 10 panels, a channel track to attach to my house, and two corner posts. It held up so far in 4 hurricanes for under $400.

Such a nice idea, great video...I did the same in my patio to cover up and protect the area from rain for my dog to go do her job. It has stood up really well. But during the windy nights, my neighbors are complaining of the noise from the flapping tarp. Any idea what I can use instead of tarp to keep the area waterproof for my dog and also not have it so noisy? thanks :)

Well sh*t.. I've been looking everywhere for this DIY video that matches my husband's "patio shade". Please help me: our tarp is a 12x12 heavy duty, nothing getting thru this sucker and it's over an existing slab (we're renting) but the wind keeps coming under it and almost rips it off. We have it pulled taught using chains from a hammock and a carabiner. I think we need a 3rd pole in between the 2 corner posts. Then attach to the middle of the tarp. He said we need a lighter tarp to allow wind to blow through. Meanwhile it's been 110 degrees for 2 months now.. Thoughts?
@dmcapricious3 жыл бұрын
The noise of that tarp...dudes...you can buy mesh mosquito mesh for dirt cheap...also regular 100%cotton sheet material like a 300 thread or 500 you could even get a drop cloth from harbor freight for like 20 bucks...and you could buy some irrigation tubing line for planters or hanging plants but instead hook them up to misting jets...and snap fasten them along the frame of your hanging shade curtain or across the l or w or h.

And at the end you can see there is still no shade on the porch it's just shading the wall. Should have built it a lot lower and at a slant

Watch that rain. Because you have a rain catcher. But with a little more tweaking, you should be good. I love the conduit idea. I plan on doing something similar, only with lumber. These canopies are way better than store bought. Store bought are cheap as hell. They don't last, the canopy fades and rips in no time then the legs break and its off to the dump. Never again will I buy cheap Chinese disposable canopies. Homemade are less money too. Money that stays in our country, not in a communist regime, but that's another story.

Well I’m back and actually tried it. It was a tarp from Walmart 14x20 and within a week it tore since there was wind. Not too much wind very light like 20 mph. bought another one only this time from eBay it has some light going through much more than the tarp the material is breathable it lets wind through. Had some windy days and not a single tear it has been up for about 1 month seems promising.

Very unsmart to climb ladders when heavily pregnant. Your center of gravity changes, and you are out of balance. Would you climb a ladder with a printer strapped to your belly? Same thing. One fall and you kill the baby. This is hardly a DIY project. You are erecting a canopy, not building anything. One gust of wind will blow this away into your neighbors yard and can injure someone and damage property. I speak from experience. Make sure you have good insurance.
