  • This looks really practical and still very elegant. Great idea.

  • 3 points make a plane, when you have 4 points you end up with the issues you have had. get a 3 point tarp instead, but I like your solution! Very nice! Subscribed!

  • Simple solution. 2 diagonal corners pulled straight/level and the 2 other remaining corner pulled slightly down. This is how hammock camping is done under a tarp.

  • Thank you for sharing this! Was really just thinking I could make a canopy with a tarp. Will try making/3D printing the bracket piece. Do you have the file posted somewhere? Noting I'll likely have to custom model for my own deck/angles.

  • I think a decent wind would rip it to bits. But I like the idea, I have used an exercise ball to push the centre up, it sits on scaffold tubes with a scaffold frame. But the wind is strong so I need greater strength

  • Great creative solution. Does the top bracket of the centre pole just push up against the tarp? If so, does that cause any damage to the tarp,

    @djpaulduffy@djpaulduffy3 жыл бұрын
    • Yes it pushes against the tarp, but I learned that its best to have no tension on the tarp itself. You should have all the tension on the paracord. The tarp only lies on top of the structure without any tension.

  • Max! How does this contraption fare in the wind? I want to install a 20' tarp in the same fashion but we get gusts through our alley.

    @tonybro70@tonybro703 жыл бұрын
    • Its doing ok. I since added a second upright post to get a steeper angle and this time the tarp doesn’t get any load. It is just draped over the rope frame.

    • If you search for steel eybolts you should find some. Then I used standard plastic dowels with 12mm inside diamter. Look for a dowel in brick tutorial. Its easy.

  • Looks (and acts) like a giant umbrella, but it's hovering! Really cleaver and elegant design. One question tho, does your location get windy?

    @RexusKing@RexusKing4 жыл бұрын

  • Ingenious idea and great video! Wanted to ask your advice. I have East-facing slider windows which get a ton of morning sun making it really hot in the summer. I've been using ugly pink 4 x 8 insulation boards on the outside of the windows. While it works and keeps the heat out, it also blocks virtually all light and is incredibly ugly.(my wife HATES it). I had an idea using a white 10 x 8 waterproof and UV rated tarp. Was going to hang it either using the grommet holes and just put it up and down each day...or string a wire/cord across the header and use the grommets like a shower curtain. Ever seen anyone do this? My wife is already shaking her head...but figured it would keep out the heat/uv and allow light as it's white. What do you think?

    @lewisdennen3734@lewisdennen373411 ай бұрын
    • Hey, I totally get your idea. In essence you want to add window shutters. You could build wooden ones, or buy ready made one. I get you want a simpler solution, so why not build your own window shutters? Another soultion could be reflective mirror foils that you stick to the windows themselves.

      @MaxMakerChannel@MaxMakerChannel11 ай бұрын
    • @@MaxMakerChannel So I tried putting tin foil on the windows...it worked, but were more or less permanent for the summer. Not to mention the neighbors LOVED the reflexion they got. ;) I just tried the white tarp idea...it actually worked! Blocked the heat, let in the light. Just gotta affix it somehow...thinking clamping it to the vinyl siding. Still have to put it up and down each day, but it works. And looks less ugly than the pink boards. I LOVE your idea of wooden shutters...there's just nowhere to really install them or to move them left or right. It's a better idea than the tarp, though. I'll have to think about that now...thank indeed Max! :)
