In 2009, the Brits finally had enough of being lorded over by aristocracy. The government gave the hereditary peerage the chop, evicting them from those hallowed halls - The House of Lords. Add to that the high cost of living in a stately home, and your lord and ladyship days were numbered. But as history has shown us, you can't keep a true, blue blood down. The landed gentry were ready for one last battle to remain relevant.
This story contains scenes of upper class privilege and moments of sublime eccentricity.

Fully renovating the house would probably cost more than what the house is worth and the taxes he's going to get slammed with instantly upon inheriting is going to bankrupt him likely. After leaving there, he did not go on to any higher education. At 18 he started a career with the Coldstream Guards, but *failed* the Army Officer Selection Board exam and so left after nine months. He travelled to Australia to work as a jackaroo, but soon returned to Britain, re-taking (and *again failing*) the Army Officer Selection Board exam, before moving to London to briefly work as a stockbroker and insurance broker. _ And that is just the first paragraph of hislife. This man has lived a sad life full of failure. He knows his only "value" is his birthright.

  • I am a direct descendent of a Knighted Aristocrat. My ancestors were Cambridge farmers and dry land agricultural experts. They migrated to Australia in the 1870’s. My grandfather was a dairy farmer, and my maternal grandfather had agistment property. I was raised with a farming background and they were very resourceful and frugal. I know exactly where my food comes from. Does my pedigree matter today? No. I don’t care much about titles. My ancestors were intelligent and hardworking free settlers that made a huge difference. Today, I choose, willingly, to love below the poverty line because of my faith. I don’t follow money. I pay my taxes and my civic duties. As a Christian, I would rather be poor and free rather than shackled to an estate and “old money”, and my parents thought the same way. As for false titles and man made estates, let them return to the people. Australians grew weary of the “aristocracy” long ago. We no longer live in a society divided by “castes”. So what if the former “nobles” cannot afford their luxuries??? Their original status was built upon hard work and leadership. The current ones know NOTHING about sacrifice.
