Foul-Mouthed Aristocrats Restore A Tudor Manor | Country House Rescue: Great Fulford | Real Royalty

2022 ж. 13 Қаз.

Great Fulford is a Grade I listed manor house near Exeter in Devon. Set in 3000 acres, Great Fulford is home to Francis and Kishanda Fulford, previously seen on Channel 4 in The F***ing Fulfords in 2004. The future of Great Fulford is hanging in the balance. Parts of the house haven't been touched for decades and other parts are starting to crumble.
With the income from the estate and tenanted farms going towards paying off borrowings, the house must start to pay its own way. Simon believes that the huge formal rooms and recently renovated bedrooms mean that the couple are sitting on a goldmine. But will they listen to Simon's advice, or will the couple's forceful personalities leave them at loggerheads?

They seem the sort of people who'd tell their acquaintances that, 'Oh yes, we had some businessy sort of chap in but he was useless. He wanted us to do all sorts of bizarre, inappropriate things and tell us how to run our home. So, of course, we had to see the rascal orf!'

    • Where did their ancestors get money to build houses like this? I guess from the commonwealth countries. Looting Africa and India for their diamonds and gold. Now their children cannot afford to maintain the properties. Just like the UK as a country is going bankrupt because no more slaves money and taxes from colonized countries.

  • Something tells me that Kishanda is deliberately overpricing her rooms to avoid having strangers in her home. It probably doesn’t matter if the place is starting to fall apart at her hands and her husband's as the process will be complete at the hands of her offspring. You simply can't make enough money to maintain a property of that size sitting around drinking, eating and partying, which is about all the husband is capable of or prepared to do. The only thing that will save this house is a plan and a work ethic.

    • @@reecemacaulay1690 He wouldn’t be capable of growing a gooseberry let alone run a farm. In any case, the profit from running an underinvested mixed 300 acre farm [one of the 3000 total] would probably be near zero cash-flow, which would contribute nothing. At least it currently should provide an income of between 15,000 and £30,000 per annum for very little re-investment. No, these people are literally ‘landed gentry’ who are rapidly and unavoidably going to the dogs. Perhaps one of their sons or daughters, the most committed, hard working and cleverest, not necessarily the eldest, might turn it around? They certainly couldn’t do much worse because if he or she did run it into the ground, it would only be a matter of timing between the parents doing so or them.

They reminded me of 2 spoiled kids pretending they have so much while their house crumbles around them. It would seem that they would have to pay people to play the part of their friends as no one in their right mind would want the misery of hanging out with them. Usually I'm not so critical but treating someone trying to help them so awful really annoyed me. Loved that you told them you saw right through their games. They are usually elderly but still give it their all. Water damage and mold are usually what ruins their homes and the exorbitant prices of just the regular day to day upkeep...but they don't usually sit back and do nothing to help maintain their homes. It's often heartbreaking to watch them struggle and struggle they do. Keeping the tradition alive is very important. Shouldn't hate on them because they inherited something you could never afford. They act as if they are spoiled yet the state of that manor crumbling around them shows otherwise. It’s a shame that the house is in their hands. They definitely will not be leaving the house in better shape than they found it. 800 years. 800 years of sweat, toil and work by artisans through the years. 800 years is a testament to how great the ones who built it must have been. These people have done such a disservice to their family’s history. I think in the end the kids will either sell it off on their parents old age or after their death. I think this is the last generation of this family in this house, all because they are too arrogant and unwilling to change their thinking in any meaningful way. As for Simon. That man has far more patience than most. I would have walked out much sooner. But, I bet when Simon thinks back on Francis slamming the door in Kishandra’s face, I bet he does so with a smile on his face.

The family was nearly bankrupt and the couple refused to get some form of employment. She kept saying she was from the family or out of the lineage of Bonaparte and she was getting some money. Now there was money for Champagne, Gin, and the best cuts of meat, yet the home needed so much work. IDK....I love this channel!

  • The sooner this eccentric couple leave this lovely house the better The house deserves better duty to care. I worked for eight years for an aristocrat who managed her property well. Keeping it in good order. But then she wasn't a pretentious end-of-line , foul-mouthed idiot with ideas above her financial status. Well done the presenter for keeping his dignity against what was an assault on his expertise.

  • I knew the wife was going to be a problem from the start when she said, "I've seen round my house, so I don't need to look around again." 4:44. It was clear from the beginning that she was hostile and didn't want any help from Simon. I understand she's probably embarrassed to wash her dirty linen in public, but to ignore experts at every turn was a mistake. Sadly I think the house will slowly decay around then until such time as they are forced to sell. Hopefully not, however, and perhaps one of their children with their expensive private educations might save the day, if they are allowed to implement some money making schemes. I do hope so, because it's sad to see the death throes of a once magnificent house. 😢

  • It's hard to feel sympathy for this family. They made a name for themselves with these personas of arrogant fools, being filmed for "reality Tv" in 2004, 2012 (this show) and again in 2014. It sure looked to me like they were hamming for the camera, being dense, refusing to work if it's "not fun". One suspects they must have learned something, because they do have a website for their hotel/events venue but there is no telling how successful they are. Somewhere in there they got enough money to restore the Ballroom, so maybe being fools for the camera is a paying business model?

    • That's an interesting thought (that they're doing it all only on camera). I was wondering the same thing, i.e what happened to them and their house in almost 11 years, since the program aired in 2012. So I googled it too. Turns out they actually tidied it up and host private tours and events there now. The tours are guided by the owners (Francis or his wife). So they seem to be doing ...okay, I guess. Go figure!

  • Well, that was like watching a British remake of the Adams Family. Only, more crass. This story is going to have a very unhappy ending. The shooting organizer's expression at the telling of the story about the Labrador on the table sums it all up.

  • Francis, floating and buoyed up by his family’s once grand past, is living in a 15th century fantasy that he seems unwilling to acknowledge is no longer a reality. The two owners seem like friendless pampered children squabbling over who’s going to control a crumbling outdoors playhouse.
