Perched on its steep rock, at an altitude of 700 meters, the castle of Pesteils (Cantal) dominates the village of Polminhac and the valley of Cère.
Since 1608, it has been the property of the Cassagne de Beaufort de Miramon Pesteils family who still live there today.
In this video presented by its owner, Yvonne de Miramon, you will discover the history and the interior of this castle, including private rooms, not open to the public.

As someone learning French she speaks in such a wonderful way that allows me to actually follow a good proportion of what she is saying! Makes it all the more engaging. Brilliant storyteller!

Not a castle, but my family has kept the house I grew up in for around 800 years now. The oldest family document mentionning us being in that village dates back to 1247, it’s a legal document stating that my ancestor had the right to have his animals graze on the monastery’s lands. The monastery still remains, not far from the house, Saint Nicolas de Campagnac, in Sainte Anasthasie du Gard, France.

She does a remarkable job of showing and explaining the castle. Lots of history without getting dry and bogged down in details. I got a nice sense of the history of the castle and the family through time.
Astonishing castle! I wish the best for the lady and her family! There's one mistake I noticed in the subtitles though. The word donjon in french means The primary fortified tower of a castle but in english the word dungeon means prison or underground tunnels so the subtitles should translate donjon to tower or keep. Also just to inform anyone who stumbles upon this comment, this castle has undergone renovations which eliminates most the castle's defensive aspects.
You can still see some of the vestiges of the castle's fortified past in some of the exterior drone shots, such as 0:55.
Agree and I have made the same comment, it can cause quite the misunderstanding as these two words clearly imply something almost antagonistic in terms or purpose, one is used for living and defense at high level, the other to imprison someone underground.

Стало интересно где же дамы хранили свои наряды? Очень понравился кабинет. Счастье, что история смогла храниться до наших дней.

Malgré cela, j'ai vécu en France pendant 16 ans dans la banlieue parisienne, et maintenant nous sommes en Australie. Mais j'aime toujours voir tout ce qui concerne la France et le comprendre. Je sais qu'il est traduit en anglais. Je peux le lire, mais je comprends le français à quel point Nous sommes en Australie depuis 18 ans, mais j'aime les Français et je les considère comme mon pays. For the subs - a donjon isn't a dungeon but a keep. Basically a tower instead of a cellar. Makes a difference. Otherwise, love the video and the castle.

Very interesting. A wonderful castle. The most extensive example of wall paintings I have seen in a French castle. Very much after the Italian style I am familiar with. It is wonderful that it is still owned by the family. I wish my family still owned anyone of the 9 castles or palaces we once owned so my children could greater appreciate their heritage. I love seeing these videos of actuall estates and castles for sale, but NONE of them go into the personnel, contractor, and maintenance on-going COSTS and a budget for that asking price!! And water, and wood for heat. Forget the olive groves in Tuscany, I want a wood lot for winter heating in those big fireplaces that take an complete huge LOG.
