Bought in October 2020 by Samuel Roger (a French Art Dealer) and his wife, Catherine, the Château de Marcellus has never been open to the public, before its acquisition by this charming couple.
They have a huge project of restoration for this 18th century castle, located in South West of France, not far from Bordeaux, in Lot-et-Garonne department.
In this episode you will discover the story and interiors of the chateau, through the eyes of its owner, Samuel Roger.

  • The tour of this beautiful chateau has certainly made my day. Please thank M. Roger for the interesting and informative tour of his beautiful home. With the amount of castles & chateaus that have been abandoned or simply left in a terrible state of disrepair, it is gratifying indeed to see the very lucky ones being rescued from a terrible fate by people that really care about them like M. Roger.

The beautiful statuary throughout your home is beyond words. I have to admit seeing the original kitchen with the fireplace lit was such a treat. Many times I have wondered how they ever prepared those special dishes and what the kitchen would look like. Thanks again and wishing you and your wife many happy years at your lovely Chateau.

  • Amazing place! I imagine, the surroundings trees gone, and the views they hide.... Seeing the cellars makes you realize the amount of work ahead 😱 It would have been interesting to know, how much of the interiors, furniture, etc., was original to the house? I know, that often it will be sold off before the house is sold, and I am happy for you, that you where given a chance to buy some pieces, like that incredible painting 😍😍😍 Your wife is certainly very talented and skilled with a sewing machine!!

  • Genius construction. It could be Seen that Functionality for comfort and Building safety was a major Element of construction. In other castles allways the design stays in Front and the use in back. When you can have 50 Butlers no Problem, but if you can not afford or you dont want to have too much people in your house being Not your family then this design is a very good example for a modern Building as well

  • Amazing! I was a museum docent in an 1840’s kitchen in New Orleans, it was that kitchen! A potager, bread oven, roasting jack, all the stuff. Very easy to cook in once it’s explained how. But ours required years of scrounging to find the tools and restore the kitchens, to see it all still in place like from the last time it was used, that is astonishing. With the well and it’s hardware, gorgeous!
