Please make Nick's dad a recurring guest, i really liked him!
This is his second visit, I imagine he’ll be coming back a lot
He's great!
He technically is
Thirded, or fourthed, of seventhed or whatever. I totally agree, he's bomb.
I'd sub for that.
Boy, have I got a fight scene for you. Scaramouche (1952) starring Stewart Granger. The final swordfight in the opera house is seven minutes long, filmed in a single take on nine cameras with 600 extras involved. The fight moves through the theater, up onto the balcony, into the lobby and back again. They got it all on the first take. Two people nearly died shooting the scene. It’s classic Errol Flynn style fight choreography on a massive scale.
I'll second that
Do they do the fandango in it?
never heard of it, but i’ll third that
@@Joescotterpuss It's not very very frightening.
@@jonathanrussell482 Only for Galileo, Figaro
Random fact: The director of chernobyl, Johan Renck was pretty big in the early 90s in sweden for his music under the stage name Stakka Bo, he then went to directing music videos for Madonna, Suede, Chris Cornell, All Saints, Kylie Minogue, Beyoncé, Robbie Williams, Backyard Babies and David Bowie, he also directed 3 episodes of the hitseries Breaking Bad
It's a shame they did this TV show in English thought.. It takes all the realism away.
Are you his publicist or something?
@@Z4Zman i wish
It sucks how bad the story was though
Holy crap, I remember Stakka Bo!
“Real life doesn’t have a narrative, things just happen.” Kind of a beautiful quote from Niko there
It's the best way to write as well, you shouldn't write a narrative, you should create a character and a world and the story should happen "to" the character not "around" your character. If your character can't react and respond to the situation in a realistic way in the world you created you don't have a good character, it's too shallow.
The thing i dislike is how fast all these video goes by like i can watch an entire hour long episode of VFX breakdown especially with Alex on the show
They have to plan for longevity. If they break down too much too quickly they'll run out of content and then lose traffic.
You can, but imagine couple million people returning every time for an hour long show? The audience would quarter real quick.
livestream!
@@eric_kelso_ they’ve already repeated some stuff, they’ve covered the Battle of the Bastards in a previous episode
It's because half of their videos are ads.
Nick’s dad is so cool. He needs to be on every episode!
This was the best 19 minute commercial I’ve ever seen. Honestly makes me want HBO Max even more
If you want to watch the shows, you can still pirate them (all due respect to the show makers)
Somewhere because of this comment a 20 year old HBO intern who recommended or vouched for this sponsorship deal... earned their wings.
its worth it there is so much good content on there amazing world of gumball the dark knight trilogy all the dc animated shows and movies + DCEU and the monster universe
Honestly it is a great streaming site. Watchmen, west world, game of thrones are all film quality shows and that’s just the surface of what they offer. They seem to always be adding new shows too and the movies that go straight from theatres to the service are great.
It just speaks to the production value 🤣. Always the silliest flex. You're just bragging about your budget.
If you want a much older film with some surprising effects, I recommend Bride of Frankenstein, especially the scene with Pretorius’ miniature people
Bride of Frankenstein is a classic. One of my all time fave old movies.
YES!!! I was trying so hard to figure out how those were done!!!
AHHHH! It happened! They showed a shot I worked on. I did the blood sim for Rickon getting nailed by the Arrow when I was a Junior FX artist! The studio I was in used Phoenix FD, and the task was made that bit more awkward because the stand in Rickon geometry we had tracked moved quite a bit through the 3D space as he gets shot and falls. So it needed a large simulation grid at very low seperation to get the detail. In the end I think we did a combination of sim blood, and a slight splatter on comped on top to add more and more droplets. I'd do this in Houdini these days and It'd be no bother at all. I'm not 100% if we had any of the oner shot, but we definitely did a bunch of the arrows landing in the other shots. Replaced a lot of tips on weapons like spears and arrows. I for one replaced the tip of a bone knife Tormund drives into Karstark's neck and a few spears poking through the Phalanx. I was also delighted at the time that I rendered a turn around for a spear and the compers used individual frames from the sequence to fill in the background of the phalanx. Just animating them with a transform node in Nuke. Good times!
Hey that's awesome! thanks for sharing your story!
So as Jr fx artist you worked on very specific plot point deaths?
Oh my God, they litterally mentioned westworld, but didnt do a breakdown. That show has insanely good effects through all 3 seasons. Please do a breakdown.
Right? And they had Eric on talking about stunts he did for it a while back too.

sadly the writing isn't after the first season tho
Cthulhu was so little in love craft country…also it sucked
@@ydid687 tbh I don't get the bashing of season 2. It was even better puzzle that season 1. And season 3 was just a result of everybody being tired of puzzles so they gave us a simple action season

Not doing a breakdown on the skin shed effect on Lovecraft Country is a huge miss. Hope to see it on a future episode.

It's weird. When you first brought him on, I immediately recognised Alex Laurant's name from years of reading end credits and my collection of Cinefex magazines. I was thrilled! Band of brothers is an amazing series of love to see a break down of this guys . Great work as always
At this point, I'm convinced they're ignoring Love, Death & Robots just for the lulz XD
Eh, I think part of the reason is that LDR is completely CGI. They mostly review visual effects and design that interacts with real footage, where LDR is just pure CGI in most cases. I could have sworn that they've talked about it at least once though.

Thanks for reminding me!! i totally loved that one! it had a great feeling to it that most American movies lack and reminded me why i dislike american filmmaking so much. @@SchrodingersDinger All of that talk of the reactor being able to "explode like a nuke" and "raze Minsk to the ground" and how their "heroic efforts saved the world" was propaganda put out by the Soviet Union to make themselves not look like the incompetent fools they were. The truth is that A) the reactor *could not* explode like a nuke. They literally physically cannot do that. A nuke is designed to release all of the energy in the reaction within a millisecond (or less, ideally). A nuclear reactor is designed to release it as slowly, and as controlled as possible. B) Even if it could explode like that, the size of the explosion they quoted wouldn't even set car alarms off in Minsk, let alone have destroyed the city. Not even Pripyat (I think that's the name), which is basically a stone's throw from the reactor comparatively, would've had more than windows blow out at their quoted detonation. C) The reactor itself, as I recall, isn't what exploded - the steam system did. It over-pressurized and exploded. There was then a later secondary explosion most likely caused by the casing of the rods (I forget the exact metal composition, but it contains a highly alkaline metal) falling into the coolant, but I don't think anyone knows for sure. It bugs me how many people still believe the propaganda from this. This event, along with Three Mile Island (another case of human error, iirc) and Fukushima (not exactly the reactor's fault it was hit by a tsunami and earthquake, and all-in-all survived it pretty well), are what gets quoted as "NUCLEAR BAD COAL GOOD COAL SAFER" etc, when, objectively, nuclear power is one of the safer generators available. Their main downside is storage of spent fuel, but there are ways to mitigate that with designs *not* based on uranium-238.
