wtf 1 like
Hey guys, how about you fix your audio??? Wtf. You’re a VFX channel but you can’t mix audio properly??? F off. Unsubbed
I'm not the only person noticing the bad audio in the "The Day the Earth Stood Still" portion, am I?
No you're not
They probably got a copyright claim and cut the audio from some of that portion instead of losing all the ad revenue money for the video.
Thank you. I thought I was nuts
Right there with you
I thought my phone was messing up lmao
i love stunt dogs cause theyre always trying to make them look scary but the dog is just like super happy going "am doing good?" "can play after hooman" "am good doggo"
They sometimes have to CGI out dog tails because they're so happy to be doing a good job even if they're acting angry or whatever, and tail wagging can ruin a moment 😆
@@Kamehadouken yesss lol
😂
I worked on RE:AL and one of the things I had to do was photograph the dogs. They had jackets made for them that looked like their innards were on the outside. And super friendly. The dog kept coming up to me to lick me. The dogs could only wear them for so long because they were super hot. That and all the studio lights, the dogs would get exhausted pretty quickly.
I know in the first resident evil they used jello for the prothesis on the zombie dogs so it would be safe and the dogs kept eating it off each other lol
My favorite thing about the Resident Evil fight scene, in both versions, is that Wesker somehow gets his shades back after he throws them all cinematically.
If I remember correctly he does a really sneaky catch after the hit. At least in the game.
Personally, I just took the Afterlife scene as Wesker being stiff just to fuck with the two cause those two (chris and clair) should know he does have powers of some kind lol. It is now headcannon.
Lesson learned. Don't shake the camera when filming for VFX shots. Now to never use that knowledge, ever.

VAN HELSING! For a 2004 film, the VFX stands the test of time, especially the werewolf transformation scene. Underrated af.
Not to mention Richard Roxburgh as Dracula was pretty good, with just the right amount of 'over the top-ness'. And Kate...
Talking about standing the test of time, Pirates of the Caribbean does too. Specifically, the Davy Jones CGI is crazy good for it being 2006
It’s so bad I’m done scenes though. That’s the crazy part about feature length films with multiple companies doing salad scenes. You hit and miss in the same movie
I'd be down for a vampire themed episode, get some blade in there too.
That and Beowulf, him killing the werewolf naked
"This is basically just Power Rangers with flesh costumes" I never thought of Attack On Titan that way before
Took me until season 2 to realize it but it’s definitely true
Gundam flesh
Trust me season 4 Will be nothing like anything you've seen before.
MeatMecha!
Who do you think is the Green Ranger
I composited the Day the Earth Stood Still truck destruction shots, fun fact: myself + coworkers invented Deep Compositing to deal with these shots and it was the first time this was ever used in production!

on the topic of 3D effects, the first movie I saw in 3D was How To Train Your Dragon on opening night. I was much younger and don't remember most of that viewing, what I do remember is the part of the movie where the queen crashes into the ground and it starts snowing ash. When I saw that I remember reaching out toward the screen trying to grab some of the ash, it gave my mom a chuckle but my god that was the most immersed I've ever been in my life.
Why does the audio go on mute randomly during the 'The day the Earth Stood Still' clips??
I'm guessing KZhead copyright detection.
The original Predator has a really interesting invisibility effect that I think still holds up.
Indeed. I have always wondered how they did it. Especially in the scene after the Predator killed Blain, when he stands in front of the jungel, looking at Mac, the eyes glow orange for a moment and than he runs into the jungel.
I remember in the 2nd one while he's invisible and steps through a puddle and the water splashes around his invisible leg

I would love to see you guys analyze Tenet’s airplane fight scene with the same actor fighting himself both going forward and backwards in time.

Dont spoil it for the people who haven't seen it yet
It's pretty straightforward. He has a mask on and some of the insert shots are played backwards.
I’d also love for them to react to the double explosion in Tenet. That shot blew my mind (no pun intended). 🤯
I'd love their opinion on HOW they scene was made, but Tenet was a boring movie imo
The blurb about the ODM gear being something completely outside of our frame of reference really struck me - I remember watching an AMV of the Kenny vs. Levi fight and almost idly thinking that Levi's gotta have a really strong brain (physically)... all those split-second directional changes at incredible speed would probably knock anyone who wasn't an Ackermann unconscious LOL

For the next animators react: Rango, it has really cool cinematic shots and really makes the water seem nice and cold (which makes sense because the plot involves a water shortage). Also the character design and movement is good.

I came here to spruik the original, too! Great effects that still mostly hold up, and it's got a better written screenplay than the remake had.
Is there a database or listing of all the content from the videos? Not sure if what I want to see has been covered. I really liked the Jupiter effects from 2010: The Year We Make Contact. Any comments on that? Also, I remember reading about the effort made for the ships in The Last Starfighter (how long it took to render only to find botched shots). Your reaction to that would be cool.
I just watched Zach Snyder’s the army of the dead and that final helicopter sequence was the coolest scene I’ve ever watched and I would love to see your guys’ take on it!
You must be 10.
that colossal titan’s scream is so cool, it sounds like an extreme weather siren
I was thinking they intentionally made it sound like an air raid siren. It makes sense thematically.
I belive based on behind the scenes interview, it wasn't a budget thing to make the live action Titans humans instead or CGI. Director Shinji Higuchi is a classic tokusatsu special effects artist, having worked on Godzilla, Gamera, and stuff like that, and he kind of wanted to see what he could do with that classic tech combined with 2015 technology.
He worked on the Heisei Gamera movies, which have some of the best special effects of the Japanese kaiju movies.
That's really awesome. It's nice seeing people realize that while CGI is cool, it doesn't have to be the only tool in the toolbox. A blended approach of practical + virtual usually gives the best results.
Just like Lord of the Rings.
My name is Kevin...I totally double-checked to make sure I'm subscribed! Love your work.
Hey guys, long time subscriber, and so long I can't remember if you ever looked at Peter Jackson's 'The Frighteners' (1995). Jackson used his own VFX company (Weta Digital) which had only existed for three years and had a ton of practical effects too to make rural New Zealand look like Midwestern USA. Specifically the character 'The Judge' and his CG jaw. Also, along the Jackson theme, Bad Taste and Brain-dead would be awesome breakdowns, a ton of practical effects, stop-motion, etc. Hopefully you see this and cover these in a future episode! Keep up with the awesome content guys!

I think Love, Death & Robots should be watched and have a cgi breakdown by these guys 😄
Fun fact: the author of attack on titan hajime isayama, wanted the movie adaptation to be different from the comic as much as possible as to not give away major plot points planned later on in the series. The directors didn’t really have anything to work with, which is why the movie turned out to be what it was.

The special effects of the AoT is seriously underrated. The simple thing of having normal people using prosthetics and makeup to be titans is great. It just brings that uncany valley feeling that'd happen in real life. Using Tokusatsu techniques was really interesting. Shame that the story actually sucked.
i found the story interesting but not anime level and the movie titans are imo more disturbing than anime ones becuse of the prosthetics and the sounds they make like the colossal scream
I wouldn't say underrated since not everyone has seen this movie as it differs a bit from the anime/manga. most of the live actions have done a decent job on their cg elements
Story of the live action was shit but the ending of that was well done and they had a plan ready if they needed to make another movie at the end too it wasn't as bad as anyone say it just was different from the manga and the anime but spoiler ahead The manga chapter 139 which is the official end of the story was so bad that it made the AOT live action movie's ending feel a lot better to me atleast if the anime adapts the manga I wish they change the story a little bit otherwise people won't stop shouting at Isayama to change this ending truth be told Isayama contradicted his whole story's purpose his whole point of the story and ruined the ending with just one god damn chapter

Would like to see you do a VFX Artists React video for various 90s Sci Fi TV shows (e.g. Stargate SG-1, Star Trek Voyager, etc.). Some impressive ones, and some hilariously outdated ones. Would be interesting to get you perspective on what people in TV were doing with fewer resources when digital effects were quickly improving.
I love Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis, and a lot of the CG really holds up well, especially in later seasons where the funding & tech were better. But for SG-1 especially, they were smart about having the scope and technology grow over the course of the show's run. In the early seasons the teams all used normal Earth gear and had a lot more exploration or guerilla-style missions where fewer & less-elaborate VFX shots were required. Then, as the show went on and they could afford & pull off more VFX, they let Earth develop spaceships & more advanced weapons, as well as get involved in more & larger battles. Great way to progress the story & raise stakes while working with the evolving resources. They were also very clever in other areas of the production like stunts and camera moves; getting the most out of their sets, equipment, budget, and shooting schedules (all of which can be challenging on TV shows of the era). I have DVDs of every season of those shows, plus the follow-up movies. There's a lot of great behind-the-scenes stuff on them.
@@SynchronizorVideos To your point about the evolving Earth resources: That's my favorite part about the show! They go from having no clue what they're doing to building spaceships. It works really well narratively (for me, at least).
The Godzilla movie from 1998 where it comes out the water on the dockyard still gets me

"How'd you fire 2 bullets so fast inches apart?" **Sad Jerry Miculek noises**
Check out Bob Munden
I know it was a joke, but even the fastest shooters in history would have bullets spaced several meters apart. It has less to do with the shooter's ability than the mechanics of the semiautomatic handgun cycling another cartridge. You can shorten the cycle time with a revolver, or even moreso with the Metal Storm concept gun, which pushes the limits by stacking bullets in the barrel, but you still have to allow the expanding gases from the first round to exit the barrel before the next bullet can be fired. All of this said, the laws of physics dictate that two bullets exiting the same gun barrel must be separated from each other by a distance greater than the length of the barrel.
