Absolutely one of the best films put out by the Arizona Ghostriders. No horrible ruffians were injured in the writing of this post
HAHA! Thanks for watching.

LOL - I know a least once an episode I'll be belly laughing out loud - The disarming of Bill Brassilton!
Thanks, Greg! A little education, a little laughter. Makes the day go better.
My favorite was the Allen and Thurber pepperbox. Three barrel of course. I have a flintlock version of the derringer. You also forgot to mention that it was the derringer that John Wilks Booth used to assasinate Prisedent Lincoln with.
Cool. I didn't forget. I just felt it was getting away from the Old West. I maybe should have thrown it in there.
@@ArizonaGhostriders you are right it would have moved the video to eastern politics. Where abe was the 1st to destroy constitutional democracy by denieghing states rights to leave the union and the right to a fair trial. Thus forcing booth to shoot lincoln and yell rightly death to tyrants!
@@ArizonaGhostriders have you seen a cowboy film called Ticket to Tomahawk don't know if I spelt that right. a hideout gun appears in it at the start carried by Johny behind the Duce a Newspaper seller? after a shooting in the law office the small gun give's Kit Doge the idea that Johny is connected with the two Gun slingers. its first appearance is when Johny meets the stagecoach comany's hired guns
Good start for Saturday morning, thanks.
You're welcome.
I used to have a Uberti copy of the 4 barrel Sharps in 22 short. Wish I still had it.
Me too!
For some reason I think of something completely different when I hear muff hand warmer.
Ya know...I tried to make that as clean as possible. Really I did!
@@ArizonaGhostriders the ladies of the evening love putting pocket pistols into their muff hand warmers
@@ArizonaGhostriders suuuuuuree
@@feebtubereal they also hid them in third muffs too
@@ArizonaGhostriders As KZhead likes to say: "Demonetized!" :p
I still carry a hideout pistol when I'm out exploring the desert. Good episode as always. Love the history! I look forward to your videos. Thank you!
I got the impression you were not into guns, Cindy. Glad to hear it. Desert can be a dangerous place!
@@ArizonaGhostriders I dont know where you got that idea. I am an excellent marksman. I dont hunt because I am a big animal lover and vegetarian. I find it very distasteful to harm anything. However, when my livestock or birds are attacked by a mountain lion or coyote, I have not hesitated to dispatch the problem.
@CINDY'S PLACE I have a similar viewpoint. I don't hunt, not as long as I can buy meat at the store. I understand the argument about hunting being more humane, but I'd rather not personally kill an animal if I can buy meat that's already prepared. I just can't bring myself to inflict harm on an animal unless it's presenting a direct danger to me. That being said, I'm very interested in the technical aspects of firearms and enjoy gunsmithing. I've also had to use a pistol in a defensive shooting once before, when I still lived in the city. Thankfully, my assailant survived the 3 rounds of .22 short with medical attention. I guess that Beretta 950b Minx probably qualifies as a hideout gun.
If you haven't already can you make a episode on cowboy lasso transformation
Yes
“The disarming of Bill Brazelton.” Hahaha!! I love it!
:-)
How about an episode on journalism and newspapers in the old west.
Absolutely. Thanks.
I’ve been think of a character who’s an easterner who carries a colt 1860 Sheriffs model in a shoulder holster.
That works.
My nephew traded his favorite knife for a black powder Deringer at a rezendevous many years ago. Looked like J.W. Booth's pocket gun. A beautiful pistol and operated perfectly. He then made the mistake of entering a shooting contest with it, and was promptly laughed off the range (the ball fell before it ever reached the target). He got rid of it, which is a shame. It would've looked great on the wall. :)
Ya live and ya learn. Ya know?
Wow santee your pocket pistol is gorgeous! I just picked up a 38 special derringer from Cobra Firearms. Kicks like a mule. This was another home run! Hope you have a wonderful weekend
Oh man I bet your hand would hurt. I've seen Cobra derringers and if I ever owned one I wouldn't go higher than a .380 ACP.
Good one, Brendan!
@@alexs5744 oh it did! But thats okay. It didnt last long.
Nice way to start a Saturday learning about pocket guns of the Old West
The two thumbs down are probably historic hideout pistol haters.
Nah, they're just liberals who don't want any of us to have guns to protect ourselves.
17 people who were caught lackin
@Thomas Macnutz But they are not the vocal ones. Of course, a lot of liberals have common sense, but you never hear from them.
@Thomas Macnutz And I admire and respect liberals who don't toe the party line, who are able to think for themselves on individual issues.
@@rickkinki4624 Aaaand of course this loser had to make things political...
Great video! Guns are a favorite topic. I have a S&W New Departure in .32 S&W, made in 1901. It needs a firing pin though, they are prone to breaking. A shame the 20th century saw so many rimfires, like .38RF, .41RF and .32RF die out. There is a Colt M1878 side-by-side in 10ga. for sale at the Guns International site. We could cut it down to 10 inches and make a Derringer out of it! 😜
Awesome collection.
I have a .22 Mag remington style Derringer and have actually taken squirels with it at about 25 yards. Once you get the feel of the gun, they are amazingly accurate.
Awesome.
I wonder if dirty dan is hiding a pistol inside his coat. Watch out Santee we love you 😂
Oh he does. One in his boot, up his sleeve, behind his ear....countless places.
cow raiser Milton dan wears one in his petticoat
One of my favorite topics! I have a small spur trigger 1871 Rupertus Empire I still need to fix, the big problem is the ammo, 22short black powder.
Hii Santee🙋♂️🙂💙..i remember finding an old revolver in our capital some years back it was all rusted out and not much left but it was cool This just reminded me. Thanks for sharing the history and knowledge. Love your 1910 pocket pistol that engraving was amazing
I hope you still have that rusted relic. Thanks for watching!!
It’s so interesting to see foreign-made weaponry, like your Belgian one, because it really shows how the West wasn’t just effecting the United States.
Yes. Guns like mine didn't make it to America during the Old West period, but it shows that weaponry like that was prevalent all over.
Hell yeah
Bill Brazelton totally missed the "It's just a flesh wound" gag. I'm so disappointed.
Uh...he's a ghost. No flesh, James!
Then how did the bullet blow his arm off? (I'm over thinking this, aren't I?)
@@hacksaw434 HAHA! Yes. There is no right answer when it comes to the spirit world, it seems!
That hideout pistol could be a distant relative of the Colt in Supernatural that can kill anything except for 7 things or the two Breathing Guns from Marvel Comics. Santee I left a comment on your video about knives on modifying Old Hickory knife handle problem.
@@alvinsanchez967 Thanks, Alvin. I'll take a look.
The "early" sub-compacts of the Old West. The best thing anyone could carry for close-quarters threats back in those days. Thanks Santee!
I'm kinda interested in that knuckle duster with the spike and the gun. That looks amazing.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I think those were called Apache knuckle duster guns . Despite the name , I think they were a French thing , and there was a French dance called Apache based on a French word that sounded similar . Maybe the knife blade was for slicing baguettes .
@@victorwaddell6530 Yeah, I read something similar. Very rare, it would seem. But I still want one. Now!
I just picked up a 1849 Colt Pocket.
Dang!! Rock on.
If it is in shootable condition, rather than having to cast round balls for it, you can buy a bag of lead OOO buckshot and shoot them. They should be .33 diameter so just make sure you see a shaved off lead ring when you press them in and you have a tight seal.
JustDustin O' It’s in pristine condition. I might pick up a uberti copy and shoot that.

I loved Django with his hideout guns.

I have a few “hold out guns” but my favorite is not historically correct. Is a short barrel NAA 5 shot in 22short. It would not help much in a fight but it’s a fun gun.
it is!
Not too bad as a lemme go gun
Deja vu I favor the .22WMR NAA...but I see your point👍
Dallas DautermanDallas the 22wmr has significantly more horse power. The 22 short is the very bottom of power for a powder fired firearm.
Deja vu I agree. I also had the NAA .22lr which I gave to a nephew (It had a belt buckle it fit into)
Absolutely loved this episode. Great information/history. Thanks.
Our pleasure!
Rockstar! Get on this! We need hideout pistols in RDO!
HA!
Love the little pocket iver johnson and h&r pocket revolvers in 32 and 38 s&w, you can find originals in pretty good shape for not a ton of money (due to being the Saturday night special of its day).

Hey Santee, great video... as always! Could you do a video on a dressing the part episode...The Drifter/grub line hopper, etc. Have a great day.

I'm writing a screenplay that's a mix of old west/sci-fi, and I've been binging your videos ever since I came across your channel on a search for "What did cowboys eat?". The stuff you make is so helpful and entertaining -- thank you! Even the way you and your friends speak at the end of the videos (ie "Don't be rolling your eyes at me. I got the loading system for this puppy") serves as inspiration for my story :)
Thank you and I'm glad to help.
Hows it coming I would like to read it .
@@drakadog7405 I took a haitus from the project because I kept getting stumped at character building. Finished another screenplay instead and will return to this project soon. If you're interested, though, I did write s short story on the idea some time ago which will serve as the inspiration for my screenplay when I return to it shortly. You can read it at: melchior-dudley.medium.com/upgrade-7c94780d5dfd There are some things I would change as I have learned a lot about the old west since writing the story, but nonetheless the idea will remain the same. I'm interested to see what you think!
@@rushbros Good dialogue ,thought provoking peeked some interest some fore shadowing ,three characters somewhat fleshed out which is the hardest yet maybe the most important point in writing .

That is one qute little revolver ! Great video. I take the liberty of sharing my first Derringer buy story. I ordered a .32 Derringer and proudly showed to my co-workers, one 'ol timer said: "You'll have to file the front sight" Now, I had heard stories that gun slingers filed the front sight to avoid hanging when draving so I asked: "Is so it won't hang when I draw?" "No" said the ol' timer "Is so it won't hurt when they put it up your a$$..." Also in the show "Pawn Stars" They said that the word "Derringer" was created to countour Mr. Deringer pattents... Y'all keep ai it !

Great video. Hideout guns were an interesting part of firearms history
They are!
Picked up a Colt 1877 Lightning .38 called a shopkeeper model, it was at one time in the 1880s nickel plated, and tuned. I wish I had some documentation on who owned it and what his reason for such a fancy gun was. I use it as my everyday carry gun now.
Great video as always!
Thank you so much
My only actual gunfight,I used a .38 Special derringer,Cobra C38 based on the Remington model 45 derringer. I'd never gotten it back from the police officer who took it for confirmation that it was really mine & probably has it in his pocket to this day.
Could be. Nice little gun, though.
I can't wait to show this to my son and husband. So cool. You really produce beautifully edited videos.

Hi, Santee I am Spanish and my father told me about an ancestor of ours who lived several years in the US on the Border. He worked in a saloon and when returned to Spain he opened a tavern in Córdoba. On Sundays he showed shooting demonstrations in the city's surroundings for neighbors, firing with a revolver at bottles and coins. Can you tell anithing about Spanish or the Spanish language in the Border ?. Thank you. Greetings. Francisco.
Well that is some great history in your family. The Mexican version of Spanish is probably very close to yours. I know that the Castilian "S" is pronounced differently.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Another Spaniard here. More the "C" actually - Mexicans (and southern Spaniards) tend to pronounce it as "S" while in "textbook" Spanish it's meant to sound either "Z" or "K" (and southern Spaniards tend to pronounce "S" as "C" for added amusement value). But I feel that's not what Chico che is asking. I have the impresion he's wondering about how common the Spanish language was in the Border. (Quite a lot, I'd say, given how many Spanishism they had).

1:48 "An extra 'R' was added to the name. We're not sure how that happened." (Old west and firearm history buff here.) Henry Deringer founded a company which produced small pocket pistols under his name (collectively called 'Deringers') which became quite popular. Other manufacturers who came after and began producing small pocket pistols wanted to capitalize on that fame but also did not want to risk legal action by Henry Deringer for what we would today call 'copyright infringement'. Due to that, those other manufactures added the extra 'R' to the classification of their own guns and called them 'Derringers' so Deringer could not sue them while they still benefited from the name since the average citizen would never notice the extra 'R'. Probably wouldn't work today, but back then it was just enough of a difference to protect the newcomers from legal action.
THanks for the info!
