This week Jack and Ethan are going to pull a Mk2 Golf GTI out of a shed that's been abandoned for over 20 years! They'll clean the absolutely revolting interior with the help of the VAX Spot Wash, see if they can get the barn find GTI turning over and running, before also fixing some of the car's cosmetic issues. Will the engine run, or will we be in too deep?

Im 100% confident the only reason I was able to save it and get it back to being road worthy was the fact that it sat for 20 years and wasnt owned by my 17 year old self.

  • My first car I ever had was an '84 GTI, but the 4 door. It was my 18th birthday present from my parents, in 2003. It had over 330,000km but was in exceptionally good condition and drove beautifully. I absolutely adored it! Sadly, it was stolen after about a year and I never saw it again. So this model GTI is very special to me 😊

  • First ever car was a Mk1 Mars Red LHD 4speed GTI. Drive it back from base in Germany to the UK. Had it in the UK 3 days Racing a Sierra Cosworth and a Clio Williams round the windy B Roads near Cambridge. Cossie couldn’t touch us. Until I ran out of talent, fell off the road and was windscreen deep into a ditch. That GTI or lack of still sits in my lock up waiting for my son to be old enough to rebuild it. I’ve spent 17years sourcing every part I need to rebuild her. A build series on this would be top tier. Just don’t fuck it up like i did mine!

As for small bumper, I’ve had both. 16v jade green, F465TNP, biggest regret selling that car, is it still out there? No history for around 15 years! And a big bumper 8 valve roll out model. Always preferred the small bumper model. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this.

  • Gotta be honest I'm in Canada so idk for certain but for us the cheap but still proper fix is sliding a mk3 8v block under a counterflow 8v head. No wiring, not much messing about, and the full kit (breather block off, distributor gear, stainless downpipe, and short shifter) is like $400 USD (so £325). Usually bumps the power up to 16v levels but with more torque. Of course as the name suggests I may be a touch biased and you've probably already chosen a 1.8t, and that is the better way to go if you have the budget for it, but the period poverty spec power always deserves a shout out.
