The worst part is that we love Pokémon and just want it to improve. But people just assume we’re haters or entitled just because we ask for a franchise that makes so much money to try harder. When the Let’s Go games are the best games to come out in about 5 years, that’s just depressing.
Usually Pokemon fans deem Let's Go as among the worst mainline Pokemon games along with Sword and Shield.

I think sun and moon or ultra sun and moon are great experiences on a 1st playthrough. And if you played only original or ultra dont bother with the other as there was not enough justifiable reason to have USUM exist in the first place even if it was just one third version its still worse than all previous 3rd games lol. The other problem with sun and moon is you can literally only play through it once as the 3 hours worth of cutscenes the game has are not interesting after playing through the game. If only there was a new game + option that allowed you to skip the cutscences?

You wanna know how "faithful" these games are? They actually kept in glitches and oversights from the original DS games, such as the ability Sticky Hold having no effect in the overworld. Why they would deliberately have the remakes retain detrimental glitches from the originals? I wish I knew.
Because they did the equivalent of google translating a phrase back and forth from english to japanese to the code of the ogs to get it to run on the switch, its actually hilarious whats going on behind the hood with these games .
@@captainnavigator6534 In other words, they literally reused 15-year-old lines of code from the DS just to have the game out by Christmas. They have effectively put a DS game on a Switch cartridge, hence why all of the same glitches are present. At least when they did this with Ocarina of Time 3D, the glitches were kept in because they weren't that bad, and because they benefited speedrunners. What's BSDP's excuse?

It’s almost astonishing how the developers have managed to fail at something that they had previously succeeded at. It’s the gaming equivalent of changing your answer on test when you were right the first time, or retaking a test and somehow doing worst the second time around.

Sometimes I miss the old mechanic where you actually have to switch out pokemon to get exp. I have basically 2-3 teams worth of pokemon that are 30-40 right now and I only have 3 badges. Most of them were above 35 when I had 2 badges. I spent so much time in the grand underground cuz I was sick of the outside surface world.
I miss the proper hold item for it soooo bad. Just make multiple available in the game if they really want to enable all this training everything at once stuff! Like every other gym or for catching however many Pokemon from the Pokedex like how Oak's aide in Red/Blue would show up and give you stuff every now and then for doing a good job at catching Pokemon! When first exposed to this form of Exp. Share in Y, I'd trained up an ENTIRE team of level 100 Goodra before even getting past the halfway point in the game and I wasn't even trying to max them out as I'd been screwing around in the Battle Chateau while waiting on berries!

The funny part is that in the manga, they actually had a plot line that involved the dex not having all the sinnoh pokemon. When Cyrus evolves magneton and nosepass into magnezone and probopass, when the protagonists couldn't defeat them because the dex gave no information about them. In the games, there's no reason for this restraint at all.

Pearl was my first Pokémon game but I’ve gotten so used to Platinum that I don’t even remember things like the Pokétch having one button, the Galactic building in Eterna City being a normal apartment building, and the ghost gym being a math quiz.
Why the ghost gym have math puzzles. Is the ghost gym leader used to be a math teacher or maybe GF we’re running out of ideas.
I don’t know why, but of all things, them removing Berries dance animation was the most egregious change- It’s like they removed a massive chunk from his character by doing that.

I don't get why people would want to defend inferior versions anyways. In my opinion, defensive Pokemon fans are just deflecting criticisms out of spite lately for how Generation 4 remakes have been handled. To slam down on complaining Pokemon fans from SWSH, at the same time though they're just... defending BDSP which is just a mediocre remake choosing to remake a mediocre version of a game.
it makes no sense. when these series come out with their third installments that becomes the definitive versions. hgss having crystal content set the expectation for what youre gonna get in a remake, and every remake suffers to some extant for not adding content from the third version. the delta episode in oras for example is cool, and oras is an interesting remake, but i think we all would have loved to deal with both teams + cutscenes of primal groundon n kyogre fighting to be broken up by a mega ray. and the delta ep doesnt make up for missing out on that. Zinnia is not cooler than the climax of emerald. the same way fighting a shadow giratina in a "strange place" is not cooler than going to the distortion world to fight giratina. or having a gym leader rematch at the battleground.
I don't understand this argument, I don't want a remake to be a inferior version to the original version, I want it to be a superior version to the original, which fixes all the problems of it. Imagine if atlus announced a remake of Persona 3 or 4 but without the contents of their expanded versions (FES and Golden), I'm sure many fans would be pissed, but with Pokémon, I see a lot of people trying to justify

@@miguelgcgamer9878 missing the point. a revamped weather trio event for gen 6 on the 3ds would have been better than anything in the delta episode. delta episode is an abridged acknowledgement of emerald that lets you catch deoxys. take what you do in oras with the legendaries and imagine what running into kyogre and groudon, dealing with both teams, and incorporating that story into something compatible with x and y would be like. one space cutscene does not compare to that.
People really need to understand that the people that validly criticize the game aren't saying they can't have fun with it. What confuses me is the fan's willingness to defend a product that could and should have been much more for the price it is.

I remember my older brother tried to counter this argument by using an inflation calculator (which is a good idea), but $40 in 2007 makes roughly $53, so we're still being ripped off.

25:13 This hurts for me because I love seeing reimaginings to old characters instead of them just wearing the same. Pryce and Morty actually look like leaders of their type in the remakes. Wally looks more distinguished from your average trainer. Brawly looked more like the "dude bro" surfer his character was associated with. Archie and Maxie feel more like threats. The Rocket exects are actually characters now. They got so much free waifu and husbando bait out of it like with Steven, LGPE Lorelei and Flannery. Why couldn't we have that stuff for Sinnoh. Gen 4 has some great character design, don't get me wrong but I would've liked to see something different. Have Roark and Byron in better mining gear. Have Barry in a jacket reminiscent to his father. Gardenia could be a bit messier with leaves in her hair and stuff from playing with nature. Give Fantina a new spooky dress. Crasher Wake is literally a blank canvas for new designs. There's so much you can do her but no. You had to take out one of my favourite aspects of remakes because "it wouldn't be faithful".

They actually removed from the originals as in diamond and pearl, you could at least place down furniture make the base your own, lay down traps too mess with other players and play capture the flag being able too expand your base if you capture Enough flags

I'd argue that stuff like the pokewatch and the mineing minigame we're alot harder too implement besides traps that require the mic as all the others could of been replaced with stick controls. And honestly the underground lost alot of value as all that's really left is mineing for items, with the addition of carverns that Pokemon mostly could of been added too the above world, useing their plantuim locations.

Tbh the saddest thing about this is that this game got awesome sales, it's basically the best selling Pokémon game on its first week after release. And that's just plain sad. We as a fandom haven't learned a thing. There's no reason for GF, ILCA and the Pokémon company to change or improve. Any type of game they release will immediately be best-selling, so why put any effort???

I doubt it will completely destroy your revenue stream if you skip buying a bad pokemon game. It's going to keep being like this until people stop buying this crap. Bashing the game don't mean anything if you go around and buy it anyways.
Let's just say there's a lot, and I mean a LOT, of casual fans for Pokemon games, especially in online convos compared to other fandoms...no problem with that as they are the bulk of most fandoms anyway but other franchises at least try to balance fan and creator sensibilities but here they catered so much to fans that see Pokemon games as a nostalgia fix in-between their more dedicated fandoms IMO.

The games are fine, but that's the problem: they're just fine. Platinum is still better, and these remakes could have been Platinum and more. The missed opportunity is disappointing, above all else.
They probably sold well too. The mediocrity train will carry on. Even if legends does end up good I still think it'll be an outlier and not the norm. This is the new norm. The bare minimum.

It’s so sad that Diamond and Pearl were the first video games I ever played and the crapped on us for $60. I feel robbed that the gen 1-3 fans got great remakes and we got absolute crap. It was enjoyable to play but it was identical to the originals. I knew where the trainers and everything. When I played the original games, I always had to look up stuff and watch walkthroughs through help.

We could have a Unova gate to N Castle or Galar gate to Kikenham Palace (I guess) and more.

To be fair, they added new stuff, all of which makes the games literally worse than the original Diamond and Pearl. Namely, the mandatory Exp. Share, Affection, getting rid of HMs, making the Poketch even harder to use, Grand Underground (which sucks by the way,) and uber-tier Elite Four unbalanced with the rest of the game and wild Pokemon grinding areas.

These games are shit for “remakes,” when they still lack platinum content, having the same problems from the OG Diamond and Pearl, dexcut to where it’s Gens 1 to 4 and not the other 4 gens too like Gen 5 to Gen 8, glitches and bugs, soft locks, lazy animations in general like the reused ones, permanent exp share, and no megas. “Faithful,” more like laziness and it looks like a crap remaster with less effort put into.
Diamond and Pearl is a Cheese Pizza that was half-baked and meh, while Platinum is a peperoni pizza that fixed the problems of the Cheese Pizza, that’s what this game is, a Fancy Cheese Pizza that tastes meh, all style, no substance, it’s a shame that Persona 5 will eventually be buried by new Pokémon games as it’s a much better game

Well I have good news for y'all. Some rom hackers are working on putting Renegade Platinum into BDSP; the wild Pokemon changes at the very least are already finished. Speaking of which go play Renegade Platinum already, it makes Platinum look like an extremely half-assed game in comparison and brings the game up to a challenging modern standard. That rom hack fixes just about all of the issues I had with gen 4, which the remakes kinda failed to do.
Renegade Platinum is awesome! Can't wait to see it on Switch. I may even mod it just for that.

And not only is Pokémon a simple, non-intensive game in general, but Pokémon is the highest grossing franchise in the world. There are _zero_ excuses for the games to be as barebones, unpolished, and lazy as they have consistently been recently. Especially not when games that were made decades ago with fewer resources available still hold up better than their modern-day iterations.
These games should've been called "Pokémon Diamond and Pearl but in 3D" instead, because it's just that.

The fact that most points while playing this game i just thought about playing platinum says a lot about the undercooked mess that is BDSP. I thought it was fine but honestly they probably shouldn't had bothered.
@Furrocious Foxette I bought the game and enjoyed my time with it for what it was and was meant to be. I just cant help but think hey this was fixed in the quote on quote enhanced version platinum. Unlike previous remakes where the original 2 versions were solid on their own, diamond and pearl has a lot of problems when it comes to pacing in the midgame, annoying unwarranted level jump from volkner to cynthia, and worst of all the cut dex which they sort of fixed with BDSP by putting all of these mons in the underground. Unfortunately they sort of screwed this up as some of the items to evolve said pokemon are only available in the postgame. How hard would it had been to move them to their platinum location? Platinum fixed so much and while BDSP are excellent diamond and pearl remakes taking steps back on things already fixed IMO is incredibly dumb and I will never understand it. The arguement of these being DP remakes doesmt fully justify the absence of so many platinum elements as HGSS and ORAS share and sometimes even improved third version mechanics. So IMO this is a pretty sad excuse for the absence of all these platinum specific things missing from the so called definitive experience. At the end of the day I am a fan of the series like you and I only bring these constructive criticisms to attention as I want the franchise I love and grew up with to improve and leave this semi stagnant phase that it seems to have been in since USUM IMO.
In defense of Volkner's Octillery, it actually makes sense. He's an electric gym leader, so of course every hot shot challenger is gonna rock up with a ground type, then bam, water type so challenger has to be able to adjust for that instead of just sweeping with a dugtrio or something.
Honestly thinking we should have more Gym Leaders/E4 running related coverage Pokemon instead of just monotype.

He is now a dumb man who has lost touch with not only the fanbase but literally the touch with Reality SO HARD, it is no wonder people can produce hour-long Essays about his Mess-Ups. Essays that OF COURSE Masuda is not aware of and will never ever watch, cause taking Criticism is FOR THE WEAK.
The word "faithful" is ambiguous and this is deliberate. A truly faithful remake, in my opinion, rebuilds the game while answering the question "what would the original be like if it were first released on the current hardware instead of its original hardware?" Resident Evil 2 is a great example. Its skeleton is COMPLETELY different from the original, and yet it is very clearly faithful to the original. Demon's Souls is also a great example. Its skeleton is changed very little from the original unlike RE2, and it is also clearly faithful to the original. What does this mean? Pure mechanical "faithfulness" does not mean anything. There is more to games. Games are more than the sum of their parts and components. BDSP does *not* answer this question. The Switch hardware is demonstrably capable of more. It would have been less insulting for Nintendo to simply port Platinum version to the Switch with whatever changes would be required to integrate the second screen functions so they work on the Switch.

As I read the game files are not even compressed what makes it super easy to play around with them. And the modding scene is already workign on it. My biggest guess is modders wille ven make it work really well on pc in the future so you have a litteral pc game version this Switch game.

If anything should be faithfully remade it’s that price tag.
Thing is that ORAS wasn't even a flawless remake or anything (lacking post game and a few other issues), the the shear gap in quality between ORAS and BDSP is just astonishing. BDSP is arguably a worse experience than Plat depite the decade and a half in improvements to quality of life since then in game design. I'd argue its still better overall than original DP (mostly due to HMs and the HP bars taking comically long) but that shouldn't even be a debate given the time gap. BDSP is actually clunkier than the gen 5 games which as a reminder for people are a DECADE OLD, not to mention they are much, much buggier and have other stuff like forced XP share without changing the game aside from the final 4 and champion.
Quick question: Let's say in an alternate timeline where DP/BDSP didn't exist, and only Platinum did. What would everyone's opinion of Sinnoh be at that point?

Diamond and Pearl are pretty subpar but Platinum is a top 3 game in the franchise. Platinum is the definitive experience and when people say they like Sinnoh they are talking about Platinum mostly. If Platinum was gen 4's only game, it would be considered one of if not the best region.

The fact that you didn't mind the Chibi art style or the Forced EXP Share (both of which are easily dealbreakers for me), yet STILL hated this game, really makes it sink in just how awful these games are.
I think game freak was planning traditional DP remakes like what we got with oras. However they felt they could do more and the project morphed into legends arceus. But they knew the fans would throw a tantrum if they didn’t get their Diamond and Pearl remakes so at the last minute they hired Ilca at the last minute to develop these games.

I suspect it’s worse. That they started the full fledged remakes, weren’t technically able to keep going, panicked because of deadlines, and so the project was split into a more manageable “Legends” game with an emptier world, and the remake quickly delegated and marketed as “faithful”.
That’s best case scenario but it’s no excuse for weak remakes in the form of BDSP. ORAS and HGSS were great remakes overall, very enjoyable and entertaining.
One issue that bugs in me in particular next to lack of innovation or Platinum content, is that the remakes aren't even superior to DP in every way.. The underground base decoration, CTF mini game, traps, sphere growing and burying AND item trading with other players are completely gone in the remake. The contests are super simplified and now dumbed down to super simple rhythm games only lasting one minute, the Mulchs from the original are gone, once again simplifying a feature unnecessarily. You can't water all the plants next to each other in a row anymore though, so another convenience feature gone Also, the forced exp share and especially the awful affection system suck any challenge out of the game. On top of that, as you said, the story cutscenes are mostly ruined by the chibi artstyle, getting rid of even any hint of tension. The controls are much clunkier and worse than in the original as described in the video, there are two very useful Poketch apps missing and the controls are once again worse. Multi battles with NPCs in the Battle Tower seem to be gone as well. The GTS isn't in the game anymore either. The online battle timer is again down to 20 minutes as in SwSh, only now it's INVISIBLE. So yeah, while the remakes do certainly have several advantages over the original DP, they are still inferior to even DP in several regards in my opinion. And obviously, we don't even need to talk about Platinum. They didn't innovate where it was necessary, but even excluded features from the original. It's just incredible how they fucked up this remake.
Even the Mulch are gone, but that's one of the best things added to Berry Growing...

The new Underground is much better than CtF minigame nobody even played lol "This game is bad, there is no Mulch" LOL
@@cyberbitterdragon Platinum runs at a totally acceptable speed as well in my opinion. And where exactly do you see the "tons of content" ^^? Compared to Diamond and Pearl, the only significant content that has even been added are rematches, Ramanas Park and the Hideaways in the underground. And some DP content has been cut. The underground lacks any multiplayer features beyond mining together and collecting the Digletts. That's pretty bad, considering the underground used to be very much a multiplayer feature in the original games. I never said that the game was bad because of the Mulchs, but I am definitely saying that the lack of Mulchs does contribute to the lackluster game. Why did they cut them from the game? They were useful and could have even been...you know...improved and expanded, and not completely taken out of the game. Why did they cut over 60 moves that were in the original games and way, way more if we consider Gens 5-8? Why did they cut the battle items from Gen 5-8 and made many movesets considerably worse because of the lack of move tutors or TRs. Why do they use the significantly worse DP designs and not the obviously better ones from Platinum, if not completely new or fresh ones like the other remakes? There are soooo many of these small and bigger issues with the remake.

The lightning strike scene is better than in the originals honestly. At least something happens as it hits the ground. The problem I have with the remakes is, it doesn't feel like other remakes that were the old games with more content and the most recent Pokemon, movesets and mechanics. Thanks to dexit that means: we can't use every Pokemon at their fullest potential and it doesn't feel like Sinnoh with the Generation 8 take. It just feels like the DS games but with funko pops that has follow Pokemon and Fairy Typing. Literally something you can experience from a DS romhack. No Dynamax. No past Gen 4 Pokemon. No Megas. No Z-Moves. Movesets and moves in general are restricted since I doubt any Pokemon have Pursuit or Return in these games. It was tolerable for Let's Go since it was a Hybrid Game that tried to convert Go Players into Mainline game players and Kanto already had a good remake. MerryBytes made a good retrospective of DPPt.
For me its just the fact they ignored platinum where it mattered and just gave us outfits and some QOL that wasn’t even faithful. They could have used the improvements in platinum as building blocks to improve the diamond and Pearl which were average even at their time. I had doubts when they kept iterating it was going to be faithful. I get legends arceus is going to be the definitive sinnoh experience but it’s going to be very different sinnoh experience which is no excuse to not make an effort with the gen 4 sinnoh remakes BDSP. Sorry to ramble. They’re really good. But having grew up with platinum I felt like something was always missing

No doubt it, they ARE the worst possible remakes. Overworld chibi graphics doesn't make up for it. No Mega Evolutions. No species beyond the 4th generation available. Just about everything in the main storyline is exactly the same as the original Diamond and Pearl. It just comes to show how hyped everyone was for all this, only to see the results so down low.

At this point I don't want a Gen5 remake. Just give us Black and White 3, or not give us anything at all. Keep Gen 5 great.

Platinum is true sinnoh, even in black and white cynthia, when defeated, says "you remember me of that trainer who caught giratina", meaning platinum is true sinnoh in pokemon timeline

Coming from a long-time first generation fan (Fifth Genner, not Genwunner), it’s a long time issue that GF consistently has with its aging audience. GF really don’t listen to their fans expectations or input, they just retroactively go off of data from past game sales, popularity polls, so-on and call it day. Especially considering that D/P is one of the highest selling Pokémon games of all time, I find it silly that this time they didn’t want to experiment, when it didn’t stop them years ago with HG/SS. Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if Gen V never gets a remake considering how low Gen V Sold.
Gen 5 sold low bc it came around the time most ppl fell out of pkmn, was introduced on DS when ppl expected it on the 3Ds and how Unova lasted 2 fucking years 2011-2012 which wasn’t enough time for people to enjoy and appreciate gen 5, and then you got the genwunners criticizing gen 5 mons.
At least the Hoopa rings in ORAS were placed in areas that somewhat befit their respective Pokémon, even recreating the layouts for the Sinnoh lake spirits. Like, you actually had to seek out these areas. Then gen 7 and onward was when the legendaries just got stuffed into holes. Like, I wished USUM could've at least made outcroppings/rooms that resembled the respective regions the legends resided in. But no, it was either generic cliff/cave/jungle/lake. If they're going to keep doing this, they should at least get better/befitting rooms
Honestly, this isn't even a remake. Its just a remaster. All the others were intended to be implemented in the generation, but sadly not this one, which explains why it was sourced out to another company. Arceus better be amazing

The game feels so lifeless, the reason is because of the outdated technology and scenes used. The last two games were undoubtedly better and worth your money

It feels like at this point any shit Gamephreak will throw, the zombie fans will be like:"Oh nice! another new meal!" , they will procceed to eat that shit and even do Gamephreak's PTR for the game so they can defend why they watsed 60 dollars, again.
I've been a fan of Pokémon since Gen 3, I've played nearly every main series game including both regular AND 3rd versions and even numerous side games such as the Orre Series, Pokémon Channel, New Pokémon Snap, Mystery Dungeon, I even own a fucking Pokémon Mini. I though X/Y were decent if barebones, thought SM were alright, and actually *defended* US/UM. Sw/Sh tested my patience, but i couldn't consider them outright *bad* games, just mediocre. What i'm trying to say is that I've always been optimistic for Pokémon throughout the years. But these games. These. Fucking. Games. They broke me, i'm finally done. When these games were first announced i was fucking *terrified* that they were just gonna copy paste D/P with a fresh new coat of paint, sucks to know i was right. I'm not gonna go on some long rant about what these games screwed up (and keep in mind i'm more of a gen 5 fan than a gen 4 fan), because you do it better than i ever could, and i'm not gonna claim to be the authority on this, cause i'm not. But what i AM gonna say is that if these games managed to break even the most tolerant of fans (that actually give enough of a shit to think critically about the games), then that should serve as an indicator that Pokémon's well and truly lost its spark. These games don't even deserve to be called 'Remasters', because that implies they actually did something to improve them. TL;DR: Fuck these games, i'm going to play platinum,
We already know why they remade Diamond and Pearl. Two games that are the same. Two times the profit.

These games are inferior to Platinum, which came out in 2008.
I only hate the how everything but the battles is Chibi, I never played the original game though I still prefer it if it was made like sword and shield, I enjoy the art style just not the Chibi style it’s annoying
In an ironic way, Brilliant Diamond and shining pearl are in the style of sword and shield because they both are unlikable pokemon experiences.

Also, whiling you can get most of the Gen 4 evos before post-game, you still *CAN'T* use Tangela, Porygon, Eevee nor Yanma before post-game -unless you're playing a egglocke- You also *CAN'T* evolve Rhydon, Gligar nor Dusclops before post-game, because there's no wild pokemon that have a chance it hold the Protector, Razor Fang, nor Reaper Cloth *not even wild Rhyhorns/Rhydons, Gligars, Duskulls/Dusclops*
The evolve item for ground flying pokemon is in the victory road

Pokemon games really do not matter to the pokemon brand anymore, merchandise sells like 4-6 times as much as the games. The hardcore pokemon fanbase should accept that even the casual fanbase outnumbers them 1000 to 1. The games just don't matter anymore, especially when you just buy them anyway.
Ya know, some neat ideas from Sun and Moon would be nice for the gen 4 remakes. Type: Null, Ultra Beasts, and yeah. Also more pokemon variety from all regions, that way Team Galactic can use pokemon like Elgyem, Orbettle, etc. But nah, "fAiThFul" used bugs and cats!...
It would be nice if they added "Sinnoh forms" from the other gen pkmn, evolutions from the next generations like sylveon, new gmax forms or mega evolutions, etc.

The faithfulness to D/P is the game's main and only real problem. It's such a frustrating and bad decision. If they'd remade Platinum faithfully instead, we'd all love it. It's not ILCA's fault, it's a flawed and stupid design choice probably forced by Masuada or TPC
i think the Funniest thing regarding the outfit stuff is that when you brought up cyrus wearing more casual clothes so its not obvious he's the villain, it reminded me how that was like. literally one of the only things the main anime did right for him. the rest of galactic was kind of butchered, but the idea of the boss hiding his identity in public was probably the best thing they did. how did the main anime in all its trashiness do something right that bdsp couldnt

I'm tired of people telling me "Sinnoh got PLA so it doesn't matter that they didn't get an ORAS style remake." PLA does nothing for me as a Sinnoh fan (seeing the history behind Sinnoh is interesting in theory, but I wouldn't want to travel back to the US when the colonies were being set up just for the lore...so why would I want to do that for Sinnoh?) and despite not completely hating BDSP, it still makes me sad to think of what I didn't get compared to the older generations. It feels like they made a remaster just to get people to shut up about a Gen 4 remake.
I can't wait for the pokemon company to never trust another developer to handle their series ever again. People are extremely harsh on ILCA despite the fact they don't even have 5 games under their belt. Guess we'll be stuck with the disappointment known as gamefreak.
BDSP has sold like crazy, and since The Pokémon Company only cares about that cash, ILCA will likely become an "honorary" 2nd main developer and be forced to put all their blood and sweat into poorly "remaking" Pokémon games annually like Game Freak.
When your realize the last time Nintendo allowed another developer to make their ips was back with the Phillips cdi and for Pokemon the colosseum and XD games
