    • Indeed. I don't like this unhealthy pattern of making people be gay because they like certain toys/activities/dress. That doesn't change your sexual orientation nor your gender. I get that some people feel they ARE a different gender or s.o. but it does not need apply. The same goes for girls. Some girls dress masculine, I liked boys and girls toys as a girl, sometimes still dress masculine because it's easy lol But I'm happily straight and married. When younger I questioned myself because being gay was a trendy taboo. Cool because it's different and I felt so different already but alas that was society pushing me in that direction. Not true to who I am.

      @ari3lz3pp@ari3lz3pp2 жыл бұрын
    • I agree. Sometimes, judging someone for liking something different can cause that person into thinking they are not in the right gender when they are. My cousin loves to hunt and use guns, but she is totally straight.

The most popular ballets feature male characters. So when I said "he must know nothing of ballet", I meant he must have never seen or heard of one or else he would have known there are male dancers in them and that yeah, probably more than a few of them were boys themselves when they started learning. But I also know my husband was able to play with dolls (though he had sisters but they were allowed to share whatever toys). His family thought he was gay but he wasn't. Lol My family wanted me to be gay and because it was "cool but different" to be gay when I was younger I thought maybe I was because I get so different and got along with that community. But I just am not. Lol Stereotypes kill freedom. We should be allowed to be individuals not just genders. #androgyny. I'm a human. • I completely agree. I remember being very young, around three years old and I said that pink was my favorite color. The men in my family freaked out and tried to convince me that pink was just a color for girls. I didn’t understand why at first but I still remember that to this day. I’m not gay but I do enjoy some traditionally feminine things. I used to have to hide my enjoyment of shows that were aimed towards girls because I felt that my family would think something is wrong with me. After a while I realized that I shouldn’t hide what I like because it wasn’t helping anything. My family, for the most part, has learned to be more accepting even if we sometimes have our disagreements. It’s important to remember that being yourself is all that really matters and just because someone can’t compute that a straight boy can enjoy more feminine things or vice versa doesn’t mean that you should stop enjoying what you love.

I think modern dramas like Kdramas and Cdramas make it seem like Asian men are so romantic and heart-fluttering, but the truth is that there is still a lot of gender issues in Asian society, and it's not just in the elder generation. Other cultures have the same problem, too, but it just feels nice to be represented this time.

Also, keep in mind that this was a long time ago, so masculine and feminine things were different from now and back then ballet was used in ballrooms, trained to the rich including Louis (Why he was nicknamed the sun king) and was for men only because they saw it as something masculine (Plus it requires strength, discipline, and practice to do ballet, so I guess that's why they thought that). It's the same thing with cheerleading ( President Bush, Eisenhower, and I believe Raegan. Also I think Samuel L. Jackson was a cheerleader? but I don't know about that one), Gymnastics (tome holland was a gymnast and there is cool male gymnast out there), Heels and platforms (butchers and horsemen wore them), The color pink, and makeup (Rich men wore makeup back then). It's a social construct that forces men to feel they must be invulnerable and macho, leading to self-esteem issues and overcompensation that can cause aggressiveness and damage their relationships. It's not true masculinity, in my opinion - it's a coping mechanism to feel safe in a society full of unfair gender constructs.

  • This makes me so happy. We should let boys like what they want without being called gay. I’ve seen a lot of girls do “boyish” stuff and wear “boyish” clothes (my mom including), and yet everyone sees it as normal. But when a guy does the same thing, people may call him gay. Also, ballet isn’t just for girls (a male literally invented ballet). Ballet is a dance, a movement of the body, it’s for everyone. And pink is actually considered a masculine color back then. I’m so glad people are getting more open minded, we should let men be feminine without being gay or trans. Also, I love the Asian representation. Well done disney

    • What's wrong with being gay or trans? Do you have an issue with gay and trans people? How about we try and be tolerant, kind and accepting of all people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity? The child in this story could very well grow up to be gay or trans or both. In fact I hope they do, it would be wonderful for us as an audience to hear more stories about LGBT youth and their success stories. Do gay and trans people deserve any less respect or admiration than anyone else? No. Because there is nothing wrong with being gay or trans.

    • Do you have ANY proof at all for this theory of yours? Because I can assure you its ridiculous. Someones true gender can never be "confused" because you just KNOW who you are. Transgender people KMOW from a very young age for example like every other child does too. They are not confused its you who is confused. I repeat: You cannot confuse a child about their own identity. If he was actually treated as a girl hed get dysphoria because thats not who he is (talking about a cis boy rn I don't know who the boy in the movie will turn out to be). Your notion is not bad but we don't have to reinforce traditional gender roles on people where you can't know if it could hurt them. Sometimes those roles can be good but only for those who actively seek them and want to be that way. Forcing is never good.

    • @@radiocorrective maybe I should restate as his “biological gender”. People are not created mistakenly. I was born a woman and that was not a mistake, my existence as a woman is not a mistake. This boys existence as a male is not a mistake and my point is that we should reinforce that instead of teaching him that it goes against his nature as a man to enjoy ballet and therefore he must be a girl instead. That’s child abuse imo. We can disagree here as I’m sure we will, but those are my thoughts. If we as a society cannot see that children are being indoctrinated to believe that it’s okay to change their gender…they are self harming themselves bc ppl are telling them they are not good enough as they are, that they MUST be different than they were created and thus it’s okay to switch their gender. Calling is “confused” is a blatant understatement to the emotional and physical trauma this creates in a child. Not to mention MANY of the ppl who suffer from gender identity crises have been heavily traumatized by something. Many psychologists will tell you that the typical response of a sexual abuse victim will question their gender identity and sexuality. What does that say about our society when so many ppl are “coming out”. My instant thought is what traumatized this person and why has no one reached out to help them overcome it. Now of course not EVERY person has experienced something like that, but based off what I have encountered…it’s pretty striking and I’m turn terrifying to know that Hollywood is promoting it so heavily. Again, no hate, but disagreeing opinions for sure. Some food for thought on both ends ❤️

People will bash men dancing and yet it, especially ballet, helps with coordination and conditioning. People will mock a boy having an interest in cooking or housekeeping as if men a- don't live/can't live alone b- male chefs aren't a thing c- there's not a benefit to knowing how to cook food. Same goes for if a girl is interested in tools or sports. Like it's odd meanwhile being able to follow sports can help break the ice in social situations and being able to fix things is an obvious life benefit. Not to mention the "pink tax" which has items used by women more expensive such as razors (even though society also tells women they should shave in order to look good and feminine)

Let boys and girls like what they like and do what they want. And people need to stop assuming that boys who like pink and ballet and anything stereotypically "feminine" are gay. Of course, there's nothing wrong if they are gay either. But we need to stop stereotyping and putting people in boxes. It's completely pointless and makes people feel like they can't be themselves.
