21 miles and a nice day for a swim. Experience the incredible true story of #YoungWomanAndTheSea, in select theaters May 31.
Disney’s “Young Woman and the Sea,” the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel, is coming to theaters nationwide in a special engagement May 31, 2024.
Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement - a 21-mile trek from France to England. “Young Woman and the Sea,” which also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler, is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. The producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.
“Young Woman and the Sea” will open in select theaters May 31, 2024.

Not a remake? Not an unwanted sequel? Original content...? Just what we needed
It's a prequel to last year's Nyad. Nah I'm just kidding! :D
@@goodial😂😂😂
I went to see Wicked Little Letters yesterday... A small British movie but all the better for it. Based on an event... or series of events.. that happened a hundred years ago. You'll know pretty much from the start what's coming but still very entertaining.
I miss Disney making inspirational sport movies like this, this is the type of movies that they need to make more instead of lazy remakes and franchises. It's also nice to see Daisy Ridley getting more opportunities in different movies, she can be great in a movie when she's given the right material to work with
They still make, actually they make many movies on disney+ every year
Whats the one where the girl rides a horse off a diving board? My ex-girlfriend used to love that movie.
@@maximusprime3459wild horses can’t be broken! I adore that movie
@@jackbrodie7147 She did her best, her character sucked
Remember when Disney used to make inspiring feel good sport movies like Remember The Titans, The Mighty Duck, The Rookie, Miracle, Cold Runnings, Invincble, McFarland USA, Million Dollar Arm, etc? Yeah, i remember them and i wished they make feel good sport movies like that so with this, it's a breath of fresh air in the middle of what they are doing these days
Yes!!! Actual inspirational stories which depicted fruits of dedication and hard work vs absurd identity and victim narratives
@@SR-iz2eq didn't remember the titans have tons of racism in it and about the team overcoming it, what are you talking about lol. People are victims and overcome what's wrong with that lol.
Isn't that what this is?
Were they all about men?
Divine Mercy: The Spirit, The Water & The Blood Give Testimony by Sensus Fidelium.
I’m glad to see Daisy Ridley is doing well after all the hate she got as Rey in the sequel trilogy
All the *undeserved* hate. Rey Skywalker is a fantastic character.
Apparently she closed her Instagram account after people were trolling her, this was a year after The Force Awakens
I never see her as Rey also she sounds like an old lady
I didn't like her character in Star Wars but she did her best with what she was given, it's not her fault that Rey sucked. And yet, I'm still interested to see what else she does next. And with this, it's a both breath of fresh air for Daisy in doing a completely different role as well as Disney's return to make inspiring feel good sport movies like they used too
Hate by invalid folks with no remorse whatsoever
Even though the film will only be available in select theaters, It’s good to see that this film is getting a theatrical release instead of having it be relegated on Disney+. Personally I think more original Live-Action films should get Theatrical releases instead of just having them be relegated to just the Live-Action remakes or IP sequels.
Especially since the last time Disney produced/released a film not based on any of their intellectual properties was back in 2016 with the release of _"Queen of Katwe"_
Disney hasn't done inspirational sport movies like this a lot so it's nice to see them doing this again
But what are we paying for on D+....its not really fair to put in theaters, like what is gonna take its place on D+.......
I would love to see a Jerry Bruckheimer Collection on Disney+.
Well, David Greenbaum is now in charge of Disney Live-Action, so it’s likely that your request will be granted.
I can’t believe Elizabeth Olsen was originally gonna be Rey. She and Daisy Ridley have amazing accent changes.
Nyad in the post-credits scene: "You think you're the only long-distance swimmer in the world, Ms. Ederle? You’ve become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet."
Awesome. She represents a young woman that had her mind on a task and finished the task no matter what. Determination and focus. Great example for young people these days. Cannot wait to see it.
First Disney Movies of 2024. I'm ready for it. In the spirit of the Olympic Games, 100 years in paris, I'm gonna watch this movie, in supporting Daisy Ridley and for the Disney family. To all olympian. #youngwomanandthesea
what about Madu
Madu is a Disney+ Original Movies. This movie is the first theatrical release which I'm gonna see it.
@@AlexDisney23 you said first Disney movie, and this is
Disney and Bruckheimer teaming up again, now that is something I never thought I see again
A partnership that resulted in the Disney movies that stand out to me in this day and age, especially in the world of Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars as well as the live-action remakes.
I read his filmography, it's insane how they haven't collab in 7 years since the fifth Pirates came out. Bruckheimer and Disney used to be like a married couple
@@4deleDaz33m It's because he has primarily been making sequels to franchises owned by other studios based on films that he produced before that string of Disney/Touchstone collaborations began (Top Gun, Beverley Hills Cop, Bad Boys, etc).
They did with National Treasure tv series and upcoming pirates movie
If people show up and see it at the select theaters, they may increase the number of theaters the next week. ❤
I like hearing Daisy Ridley’s American Accent
american accents sound awful though, they don't speak correctly
Its really not great tbh
@@TrueNorth1217 it sounds that way because it's a old style american accent
@@theinsane102 i know what she was trying to do but it still doesnt sound right
She also does it in the English dub of Only Yesterday (1991).
Here’s the thing, This is a live action Disney film releasing in theaters, That’s not a remake
And it’s going to be released in theaters. For the first time, an original film in theaters.
Haunted Mansion (2023) instead of The Little Mermaid (2023) Young Woman and the Sea instead of Mufasa: The Lion King Tron: Ares instead of Snow White (2024)
@@imanolsologaistualluis6217If it wasnt for the pandemic, i think movies like The One and Only Ivan, Black Beauty (2020) and Stargirl would be released in theathers.
I'm they're learning from their mistakes. We don't need recycled versions of their stories. We need original content in the theatres.
Like Tron: Legacy and Muppets Most Wanted, not Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland or Maleficent.
I have been looking forward to this moving since it was announced. This looks absolutely INCREDIBLE. So excited to see Daisy Ridley dominate in the English Channel and on the big screen!!
Man, I've been waiting to see Gertrude Ederle's story since I was a little girl!
Love the line saying “And what if I make it?” 🙌🏻 This looks really awesome!
Daisy Ridley looks so amazing in Young Woman & The Sea!
I love daisy ridley and I think this looks pretty good
It might be Daisy's comeback. She's trying! Go see her in, Sometimes I think about dying. She's very loveable 😮❤🌟
She's a gem
So glad this is in theaters now even if it's just in select theaters. Can't wait!
Happy belated Birthday, Daisy Ridley! ❤😊🎂🥳
Disney had me cheering for a horse, who doesn't miss the Disney sports movies!? Definitely seeking out a theater for this one.
Select theatres? Why can't this be a wide release?
Finally a new movie that is truly original! For once Disney did something right.
Daisy AND Chris Eccleston in one film? This is super exciting 😍
The word you're looking for is 'Fantastic'.
it's good to see Daisy Ridley in non-Star Wars roles like this! it shows range
This inspiring true story is worth watching on the big screen, thank you !
Could this be Disney, the 21st century and American female swimmers' answer to Chariots of Fire? They're both about the 1924 Olympics. In any case, I think this is going to be brilliant. These biopics about the impossible tend to make you wonder whether the main character is going to make it, and squeeze your heart in fear as they try, despite knowing in your heart that they did succeed.
I’m here for Christopher Eccleston😁❤️❤️
"Fantastic" 9th doctor
This actually looks like a GOOD Disney movie! (been a long time since I've said that...) Glad to see Jerry Bruckheimer back on the Disney scene once again since POTC!
I see Sian Clifford and I immediately think "CLAIRE, IT`S FRENCH!"
Ready to support and see my favourite actress on the big screen!❤ Daisy!!!😍
been following the production of this movie for a long time. I'm excited it's finally coming out!
Finally, a real disney movie!
I'm very intrigued by this! Can't wait to check it out!
Wow This looks promising ❤
glad is Disney is still making these kinds of original movies.
This looks really good! Make more stories like this! Original and inspirational.
ItWon't be long before years later. Probably 10 years from now. She'll be back as Ray and some kind of sequel type of media and people will be talking about how they appreciate her and that they like her now despite giving a lot of hate when she was on the Star wars movies
She’s already set to return as Rey in Star Wars new Jedi order
Whoa that looks pretty good. I would watch it.
This looks GREAT ❤
THIS LOOKS AMAZING!!!
Very great to see Ridley again
I love Daisy Ridley, I cannot wait to see this movie !!!
Ya era hora de que regresara la seriedad y las historias reales .
Daisy Ridley??!!! Hell yeah!!! Sign me up 😎🍿🤍
Not gonna lie, this looks real good and Daisy looks great!
Wow, I wonder if she makes it!
This documentary could bond with Glory Road. It's also set before Will met Tonto and before Dr. Lily Houghton bonded with Frank Skipper. After the Olympic record in this film, there was Tarzan. Then came Dumbo. Before all that, came Pirates of the Caribbean, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, A Christmas Carol, The Greatest Showman, The Lone Ranger, Cinderella, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Jungle Book.
Great! I love Daisy Ridley ❤
Ray can do it she is a Jedi if she can fight a lightsaber how hard to swim so far away from home. Ray is tough cookie.
Sometimes you don't need summer blockbusters to appreciate a good film. Looking forward to this.
Wow! Props to Daisy for the voice work! She sounds completely different, nailing the accent of that time. Can’t wait to watch.
Yes. You can do it.
This is stories we love!
I might Interested on watching this Movie Soon.
Finally a Movie that is worth watching!
I can't wait to see this movie, hopefully in a theater (in France) 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great, I'm looking forward to see this history document as motion pictures!
American Accent Daisy just hits different. God I love her, she is so talented! I can’t wait to see this and the trailer just hit me right in the feels.
Anything from her i will watch it and buy it..pure gem! The new Keyra knightlhy please 🙏 do something together ❤️
From being a hated Jedi to an Oscar caliber star
Robert Pattenson effect
Well done Disney
Haunted Mansion (2023) instead of The Little Mermaid (2023) The Young Woman and the Sea instead of Mufasa: The Lion King Tron: Ares instead of Snow White (2024)
Looking forward to seeing this in theaters. Its been a long time since we can an original movie. Definitely one for the whole family!
Daisy Ridley rocks
I recognize Daisy Ridley from the Star Wars sequel trilogy. I will hire her to voice Ocean Blue.
What song is that in trailer? This movie looks amazing!!!!
Lost it to trying
Nice to see our girl! ❤🔥
the only recent disney movie trailer that can give me goosebumps, I'm so ready for Daisy Ridley comeback
Looks awesome 🌊
This looks great. The last “based on a true story” sports film from Disney that I can remember was McFarland USA.. which I thought was terrific. Hope this one does well
where can i see it in Italy? i will swim a relay channel swim this summer and the film would be fantastic for me!!
Rey's transformation into a Gungan begins now.
This looks very exciting!
I Would Like To Go See It👍👏🏊♀️🎥🍿!!!
It deserves an oscar
or what
I so want this to be as good as the trailer paints it out to be. We need a good soul-lifting Disney movie in these uncertain times, and Disney need a hit movie to help bring them back on track.
Disney Remake!!! When I was 12 Disney made a movie about her I remember it like yesterday
I'm exhausted just watching the trailer. Maps out as 2 (or whatever) hours of emotional crescendo and climactic closing lines.
this is in the same realm of queen of kwate and million dollar arm. i’m sold!
Daisy ridley fans ❤❤
Disney always make great sports films.

Daisy, we love you... Hope Disney could honor that love by fixing their mistakes.
Disney is something different when it comes to make inspirational movies...i never missed any from disney...i love you guys.
My Rey became an Olympic champion 😍
Was pleasantly surprised by this. I like it already
So... May 31st will be a limited theatrical release, but it will later gain a wide release on Disney+? Is that it?
This seems amazing...
May the force be with you.
Trudy you don't have to do this - I don't know, seems like I'm the young woman and the sea
I wonder if she makes it.
Ooh!! 😯 This looks SO good!! I’m definitely 💯 watching it when it comes out!! 🎉#WomenCANDoAnything
Cannot wait to see this !!!! 😢😢😮😮😮😮😮.. anyone know the trailer head composer ?
In May, 31 2024
Can't wait to see Olive Abercrombie as young Trudy!!!
I don't understand why Daisy got hate as Rey in Star Wars, I love her role and one of the original characters in the franchise. And she is still successful for Young Woman and the Sea.
Wow.
"This is just fantastic! Absolutely fantastic!"
I love the part where she says before swimming: I am all the Jedi and in the end she wins first place.
