  • As a Queenslander (in Australia), I've grown up eating mud crab. It is the most beautiful meat, especially if boiled in the shell in salt water and eaten either straight away or after cooling it down. Try cold mud crab on fresh bread with real butter and some salt and pepper. Oh yeah...

    • I've never eaten mud crab, having grown up near Melbourne. We used to eat abalone, southern rock lobster and Aussie king crab (Tasmanian crab). We also get Portland bay bugs (smaller cousin of Morton bay bugs.) Pretty spectacular country to live for that kind of thing, even down south.

  • I LOVE how Sonny is always so honest with his reviews he doesn’t sugarcoat if somethings good or not. As a Singaporean honestly all these crab gravy dishes (chilli/black pepper) is more of a “marketed” classic dish for tourism not rly something everyday Singaporeans eat quite overhyped actually. Hope you try Malay and Indian cuisines (Head to Geylang or Little India!!) while you’re here too Sonny they’re just as sedapppp!!!!

Thats what leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths on both sides of the fence. This was not a political conversation. It was about drooling over these delish crab legs. Not even people with money are getting that kind of crab to their tables. It's a part of Singapore's local palate.

We just steamed it and served with drawn Lemon Butter... We used to toss in an extra leg occasionally when we got an order... they were VERY lax with inventory. • Singaporeans love their seasonings and strong, hearty flavours xD I'm a huge fan of chilli crab myself, but agree that the sauces overshadow the natural flavours of the crab. If you haven't done so yet, definitely recommend a chicken rice spree in Singapore! It's beloved by many, almost making it a national favourite, and captures both the flavours of the meat and seasonings.

    • I'm with you... crab is best enjoyed with minimal seasonings. I had a crab curry once at an Indian restaurant; the curry itself was delicious, but the meat could've been many different seafoods stuffed in a crab shell. King crab/snow crab has an AMAZING naturally sweet flavor you can't really find in anything else. To cover that up, especially for the price you pay, would be a shame.

    • If he spends for example 1 week per city traveling to/from and shooting, his team doing all the off-camera work, making ~5 episodes per trip, which then gets released every 4 or 5 days, it certainly sounds feasible. Especially when it is profitable and rewarding (in other ways), he/his team can certainly find a way to make it happen.

  • I love watching your show! I imagine myself eating all of these things I can’t even come close to affording, let alone affording the things I need. (Not a pity party, this is how my life has been for a few years). I saw AKC at the store recently for 69.99 a #. I about fainted. Wouldn’t have bought it, even at its normal 22.99#. Nice to dream. Thank you for describing the food so vividly that I feel like I can taste it! Nice video, awesome chef as well! Keep the videos coming. Highly doubt you will see this. But thank you again Sonny! #MoreBestEverFoodReviewShow

  • Sonny I was jealous. It's been 4 years since I had Alaska king crab on my bbq. Goes great with a ribeye. And of course a baked potato. Supply before COVID then shutdown now the fishery is shut down. Facebook had a scam on yes they got me. 80$. Look fantastic. Black pepper. What a dish. And the kitchen shoot was to the moon. Great vid. Your the best.

  • I had the Singapore chili pepper crab 🦀 back in 1997 in Singapore . It’s was huge and tasty but too much pepper. I’m from maryland and we take our crabs seriously. I just had maryland crab with old bay the last two nights. It’s my death row meal and my fav dinner. Our crabs 🦀 are smaller and this crab in Singapore is huge. I didn’t realize why an Asian customer of mine when I was waiting tables in my early days only wanted to order one crab but that was my enlightening moment. It was a unique dish and a massive crab in chili pepper sauce. I think crab is too delicate and silky to marry with hot sauces. It goes well with Okd Bay and butter though. They’d love that combo over there. It was an experience I’ll never forget. He did a great job with that Alaska. Red crab prepared two diff ways. Nothing beats butter (and a little old bay , he he)
