Special thanks to Josh Lau (@joshlzm) for helping us find a shooting location and source giant seafood!
As a Queenslander (in Australia), I've grown up eating mud crab. It is the most beautiful meat, especially if boiled in the shell in salt water and eaten either straight away or after cooling it down. Try cold mud crab on fresh bread with real butter and some salt and pepper. Oh yeah...
I've been dying to try them - ever since I 1st starting watching Brodie from YBS!😍 They look absolutely delicious🤤
Never tried but mouth is watering that you have described
I've never eaten mud crab, having grown up near Melbourne. We used to eat abalone, southern rock lobster and Aussie king crab (Tasmanian crab). We also get Portland bay bugs (smaller cousin of Morton bay bugs.) Pretty spectacular country to live for that kind of thing, even down south.
@@brendanhoffmann8402 you are making me want to Australia for a feast🤤 lol
How is the sustainability of mud crab? I've never eaten them but I'm in favor of making sure tasty things never die out.
this show is my antidepressant. im not even kidding
I have been to Singapore 4 times, they have so many ethic cultures living in that small island. Very beautiful tropical island, always enjoy your videos & your bravery to try any & every culture cuisine.
I LOVE how Sonny is always so honest with his reviews he doesn’t sugarcoat if somethings good or not. As a Singaporean honestly all these crab gravy dishes (chilli/black pepper) is more of a “marketed” classic dish for tourism not rly something everyday Singaporeans eat quite overhyped actually. Hope you try Malay and Indian cuisines (Head to Geylang or Little India!!) while you’re here too Sonny they’re just as sedapppp!!!!
Content always on point. I feel like you always give us knowledge. Not just food knowledge but cultural knowledge. Thanks Sonny!

Me: * eating a dry bologna sandwich watching Sunny eat crab * "oh how I wish" 🥺😭🤣 but seriously, looks absolutely delicious 😋
😆 I can relate!

@O.G Autistler i get it. I read it the first time. I dont believe in critical race theory. I do get the irony. But i dont champion or tag people to try to get my point across. Thats what leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths on both sides of the fence. This was not a political conversation. It was about drooling over these delish crab legs. Not even people with money are getting that kind of crab to their tables. It's a part of Singapore's local palate.
@O.G Autistler how do you know their ethnicity? You are really changing the world! Thank you
Fry that hoe dark brown, toast the bread in the skillet with butter and a dash of onion powder, get some lettuce and tomato if ya wanna, I love onion.. red onion rings are my favorite when I eat chicken bologna. Get a daggum slather of mustard and gd DUKES MAYO?! 👀🫦👀 chileeeeee.. my go to college meat, BAYBEHH.
Wow, it seems all the big food reviewers are doing videos on Singapore at the same time! Mikey Chen just recently did a video, Mark Weins and now BEFRS did one. Would definitely be cool if all three could finally come together in one big collab...probably won't happen but hey you never know!
They are actually the same person but they use CGI and voice effects
The government is probably doing a tourist promotion for the country and contracts these guys to advertise them.
this was footage during sonny's singapore feature a few years ago just kidding, probably a side content during a layover flight after the tour of africa going into uzbekistan
i think mike and sonny already did a collab before
@@goobermcboogerballs1420 I doubt it.
Loved loved the crab meals and the mantao bread goes best with the "CHILLI CRAB"! The whole crab episode is so salivating!! Need to be in Singapore to savour this meal!
When he tried breaking the crab leg he said “If you’re friends with the rock, he can just come to your house and help you” Lmaooo sonny is too funny 😂😂

This is making me crave for seafood. That looks so good 😊

@Pᴀᴡɴ S𝜏ᴀʀ𝕤 ✯🇫ᴀɴ why are you so rude to people?

Sonny, never stop being you. Thank you to you and your crew for bringing us this awesome experience. Vicarious experience, but a great experience nonetheless.
Love how he just wrote, Camera operator: Wife
Vicarious... this is a Tool song that is great but unfortunately for the general public they don't know what Vicarious actually means
@@tylermaddy7656 Maybe the general public doesn't necessarily know the song itself, let alone even heard it (10,000 Days or any other Tool albums for that matter), but the definition of vicarious is "experienced in the imagination through the feelings or actions of another person." And yes, great song and album for sure. I'm wearing my Tool wrench shirt while responding to a random comment about Tool.
@@mrvector257 we might be able to be friends vicariously thru the social shitshow media world...lol
@mrvector257 let me ask you a serious ???... your a teacher aren't you???... and your aged around 46 that probably started church going as a Baptist... either way whatever I have said just disregard it... but do me a favor and let me know if I was right... I'm trying to make a book
I lived in Singapore many years ago and when I went back to visit, made sure to have chilli crab again. Wonderful. I had the best satay there too, and the best Teppanyaki, although that is of course Japanese!
Great video as always. Both crab dishes looked awesome. Yeah a bit pricey but worth every penny. I will be getting some nice fresh seafood soon in the Philippines
This series has helped so much with my depression it is really awesome to have something nice to look forward to...Sunny you are amazing 👏
I suffer from depression I take meds and my dogs help me alot. Pets are great therapy
I Totally understand you i have also had massive Help in my Daytime by some youtuber to get me back on track to have some points where i have to be there in my beginning 17 years later im nearly back in action for work
Get off KZhead and get some vitamin D
I also use Sonny’s show to treat late night depression ! It gives me inspiration ❤️
I hope you are having a good day 👍
Lived my childhood in Singapore, this brings back so many memories!
In the 80s I cooked in a Steakhouse in Tucson (good one). We served King Crab, the legs were about 1lb each. Back then it was 2 legs per order for $28... We just steamed it and served with drawn Lemon Butter... We used to toss in an extra leg occasionally when we got an order... they were VERY lax with inventory. Alaskan King Crab is the single best food I've ever eaten, bar none.
"Its like if your doing coke, do you really need to put Hershey's chocolate on it?" Good point.
Did I hear that right? Hahaha
One time my grandmother gave me a tiny glass Christmas stocking filled with M & Ms. years later I used it as a crack pipe. So yes, Hershey’s chocolate and cocaine go hand in hand.
@@boscopappas234 that’s a lot of info to unpack in a short sentence.
Had to rewind this part lol
Cokes gotta be sonny's fav drug 😆
I discovered this channel like 2 months ago and have ran through all the videos already. This really is the best food review show ever
same
Mark Wiens actually has the best show.. he's the 🐐
My dad likes steamed crab dip in saus sambal indofood and lime juice. It works on other seafood too. Like steamed prawns or mussel or even fish. Somehow the combination brings out the sweetness of the seafood and makes it tasty too.
Would love to visit Singapore. This looked incredible 😍😍
Thats hard to afford Sir.
@@jnjchannel7849 lol Il just cook an 10$ fresh crab at our home
Welcome to Singapore 😄😄Enjoy your stay in Singapore and all the fabulous authentic local food !!!!!😋😋
You know the crew loves it when they do episodes like this. I can hear them now. "Even Sonny's big ass can't eat 15 lbs of crab. Just give him a few beers and when he's snoozing off his food coma in the van we'll CRUSH that shit"
Singaporeans love their seasonings and strong, hearty flavours xD I'm a huge fan of chilli crab myself, but agree that the sauces overshadow the natural flavours of the crab. If you haven't done so yet, definitely recommend a chicken rice spree in Singapore! It's beloved by many, almost making it a national favourite, and captures both the flavours of the meat and seasonings.
Oh shush. Chili crab is a bland tomato sauce. Chicken rice is anything but hearty and strong. It's subtle.
@@Welcome2TheInternet Uh, you think otherwise? Fine. Power to you, but your opinion is wrong, that's all.
I'm with you... crab is best enjoyed with minimal seasonings. I had a crab curry once at an Indian restaurant; the curry itself was delicious, but the meat could've been many different seafoods stuffed in a crab shell. King crab/snow crab has an AMAZING naturally sweet flavor you can't really find in anything else. To cover that up, especially for the price you pay, would be a shame.
@@Welcome2TheInternet that just shows whoever cooked your food was not very talented with the seasonings - if a chili sauce is bland you really messed up on the prep or your palate is just ruined.
@@Welcome2TheInternet I can tell you are trying to find meaning in life by critiquing countries in a passive aggressive way
Welcome to Singapore! Very happy to have a reporter reporting foods as they are in Singapore :))
This is crab heaven ❤ Craving for seafood now 😋😋
The next time you're in Singapore, please do give Katong Laksa a try! :) and Ayam Buah Keluak too!
Do you have recommendation which resto should i try?
You really are an inspiration and an encouraging factor for my channel. Much love😇
If you haven't had Singapore chili crab, you should seek it out. I was lucky to find it at Tiger Fork restaurant in D.C during Covid. Easily in my top 10 meals of all time. 🦀🦀
just want to say thank you for everything you've put out there for us to enjoy! it has actually inspired me to go to culinary school myself starting in september! maybe i can finish what you couldn't Sonny 😜😜
Sonny got to eat good on this one. Crab looked amazing. Was fun to watch. Great video
Great content Sonny, hopefully one day i can visit and enjoy this wonderful food. Stay safe, stay blessed!
I stumbled across these videos and now I absolutely love them. You are a natural in front of the camera. Keep up the great work. Oh and come to New Zealand.
i like how the chef cracks some of the outer shell before actually cooking the crab. Some places do the crab whole so the chili never actually gets into the crab
Both you and Mark Wiens making videos on Singapore? LETS GO 🔥🔥
The 2 food kings in Singapore at the same time! What's going on?? loll
Same!!
Lovely video! The crab looks very tasty with dynamic images and impact.👏
Hope you enjoy your time here in Singapore Sonny!
Tried both of these cooking styles here in SG and to be honest, I love black pepper crab more than the chilli crab!
Agreed. Chili crab is pretty bland.
Same here bro, natatamisan ako sa chilli crab.
Hah yeah these two have been rivals on menus for the longest time. Salted egg has been rising as a third contender for a while now, too.
Bakit mukhang chinese mga singaporean
I wonder why no one ever mentioned Butter Cream Crab
I'm allergic to crab but that king crab looks so amazing 🤤
i am too! Almost died in Maine one time. But in Singapore, for whatever reason, it did not give me any issues!
I’m from Louisiana so I LOVE crabs. These look amazing…minus that ketchup flavor. But the comment about putting chocolate on top of coke sent me!!! This is the best line in this episode..hilarious and great analogy.
Lol I was like wait🤔 what?! Lmao at that part too
You should visit Little India for Indian food and Geylang Serai for Malay food next time you're here! We're very proud of our multi cultural heritage. Or you could visit one of our famous hawker centres where you can get all the different cuisines in one place, Golden Mile Hawker etc.
There’s more than just food at Geylang Serai 🤣🤣🤣
"do you trust me?" "yes" *backs up*
Everything looks very delicious..😋
I really loved this episode, your banter and humor is A1!
I had Singaporean chili crab in a restaurant in Tokyo and I fell in love with it. Really want to go to Singapore and try it from the source
Chances are the Tokyo version is localized for their more delicate palettes. Come over here for the real deal ! We welcome you ! Just beware of tourist money traps 😉
Finally made it to Singapore ... Do a feature on frog porridge in Geylang
Or the turtle soup with egg in Geylang too. 😋😁
Hey Sonny welcome to Singapore! You have to try chicken rice , laksa and prawn noodles (hokkien) when you are here! Go grab some coffee and kaya toast at Yakun while you're at it! ;)
Omg cant believe you’re here in singapore. I’ve always watched ur videos and im from singapore too. Anyways, love uncle raymond for staying true to our singaporean accent hahaha love that!!!
Sunny its always good to see you enjoy all of this food! You are so kind and funny! We need more people like you.
"its a little late to get the crab drunk" bro im dead
wait ive already seen this??? bro what.
Yes, there is ketchup in there. The second 'special sauce' that you see getting ladled into the soup is ketchup! Also, for the mud crab, that was an interesting choice to give you a male crab - the females will have a cakey, yellow roe that is the food of the freaking gods.
I'm guessing he wanted the wow factor and a huge crab so they probably gave him male crab for that reason. Female crabs tend to be smaller and have smaller pincers.
@@ClarenceTan92 that’s sexist! REEEEEEE!
you dont catch the females. u let them go so that they can reproduce
@@ClarenceTan92 Yeah, that makes sense. If I want meat I'll get a big male, but if I want roe then obviously...
Thanks you for coming to Singapore, enjoy and have fun..
Always entertaining, Amazing review.. and i'm hungry now🤩👍
It's the reference to Coke for me, sums up the crab experience lol. Awesome videos keep it up!
Lmfaaaoooo with the Coke and Hershey's analogy 😭😭😭
Hey Sonny & Team . If you’re in Singapore , please try our local Malay & Indian food !
Love how your review the food
I miss Singapore! Love that place!
honestly you're pun jokes are hilarious 😂
Loved these videos for yours now your a funny guy, legend of culture and food LOVE IT
After watching you eat that sunny, I’m going to have to go and eat a week of that! Thanks for the great video!
Wasn't a bad price for over 10lbs of crab! Looks amazing 👏
I'm from Singapore and crabs that size are over 100bucks.
@@vern0018 Sonny said $85 or $89. Not bad. I'm sure it would be high price in USA. Probably a few hundred. Looks good tho
@@k.c.8345 Referring to the mud crab? Any crab that size here is over 100bucks in SGD currency. I'm sure its weighing more than a kg. There is another 10% service charge and plus 7% government taxes. I have eaten at this place, and its v tasty.
@@vern0018 still a good price. Pretty sure he was talking about USD not SGD. It would be way more in the U.S.
@@k.c.8345 Everything is increasing its price everywhere now. Anyway everyone who comes to Singapore needs to try the crab, it's a specialty here. There are many joints in the East Coast Beach too. It's nice to have the crabs by the beach.
In Singapore. Laksa is a must. My Chinese friend always recommend hokian mee. I only eat halal version still one of my favourite. Chicken rice, bone marrow or "sup tulang"
dam Sup tulang is great on a cold day for me XD
Love this channel. Thank you for this video!
“The texture of it is like moss” 😂 I love this channel 😆
Wow that looks so deliciou
Hey Sonny, love your videos as always. I noticed that you don't shy away from your love for fermented beverages, and was wondering why you haven't made a spin-off called BEBRS (Best Ever BEVERAGE Review Show)? I'm sure that by now, Kevin Brausch no longer has right to "the Thirsty Traveler", so that might be an avenue to explore for extra content. Hope this message inspires you to create even MORE content? Best wishes
Like when food channels are actually honest and they don't just call everything perfect and 10/10
My Goodness!!! mouth-watering!!!!! I just love watching your videos man.

They will definitely hook up.
Sonny I'm not sure that you know that Mark Wiens is currently in Singapore doing food contents videos too, hope you guys can hook up and do a collaboration right here in Singapore!
That king crab looks soooo delish! I'm jealous lol
Looks Amazing!! 🤤
Yummy! Everything looked delicious. 😋
How does this man posts so fast on youtube while simultaneously going to other place and countries and editing the videos. Ik he has a team but the shear ammount of videos is outstanding keep up the good work.
If he spends for example 1 week per city traveling to/from and shooting, his team doing all the off-camera work, making ~5 episodes per trip, which then gets released every 4 or 5 days, it certainly sounds feasible. Especially when it is profitable and rewarding (in other ways), he/his team can certainly find a way to make it happen.
He has editors who do it for him

Welcome to Singapore :) I was thinking salted egg crab for the Alaskan King would be interesting... cos it is usually the Mud crab we use for those.
May I ask where exactly is this place in singapore? 😊
I wish I was there with you eating those delicious crabs 🦀 yummy 😋
Sonny I was jealous. It's been 4 years since I had Alaska king crab on my bbq. Goes great with a ribeye. And of course a baked potato. Supply before COVID then shutdown now the fishery is shut down. Facebook had a scam on yes they got me. 80$. Look fantastic. Black pepper. What a dish. And the kitchen shoot was to the moon. Great vid. Your the best.
"Now it's healthy. It's basically a salad." Lol this made my day 🤣
Chili Crab in Singapore is one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life! Singapore is a beautiful place with wonderful people as well!
BEFRS - do you ever check your comments? I gotta say your content is amazing entertaining, educational and all around fulfilling to the bored mind at 2 a.m. so I ask myself are you the problem or the cure that I am up late or super happy watching food that is unusual to my culture but looks so damn good I'd turn from a strict plant based diet to I wanna visit that country and eat EVERYTHING! 😄 Totally love you sunny and crew you make a good day better!

The Chili Crab can be more of snack than a meal, but that King Crab definitely can fill up my tummy.
eat bbq stingray the next time u come to singapore!!!!!! satay beehoon, frog leg porridge, mutton soup(chin hock mutton soup at bukit timah food centre is my fav) rojak, try a variety of roti prata, satay, u can try other crab variations like salted egg or creamy butter, if you want exotic things we have deer pen15, turtle soup etc it would be cool if you can try the cell cultured chicken the next time also!
Cell cultured chicken is not food. It is a lab experiment.

The coke reference cracked me up, was not expecting that. Had to rewind it, thought I misheard him 😂 absolutely love this channel.
I had the Singapore chili pepper crab 🦀 back in 1997 in Singapore . It’s was huge and tasty but too much pepper. I’m from maryland and we take our crabs seriously. I just had maryland crab with old bay the last two nights. It’s my death row meal and my fav dinner. Our crabs 🦀 are smaller and this crab in Singapore is huge. I didn’t realize why an Asian customer of mine when I was waiting tables in my early days only wanted to order one crab but that was my enlightening moment. It was a unique dish and a massive crab in chili pepper sauce. I think crab is too delicate and silky to marry with hot sauces. It goes well with Okd Bay and butter though. They’d love that combo over there. It was an experience I’ll never forget. He did a great job with that Alaska. Red crab prepared two diff ways. Nothing beats butter (and a little old bay , he he)
