That 17/18 season was the highest we finished since Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United. We started so well as we were just scoring goals, conceding less, keeping clean sheets and getting three points as Lukaku was scoring, Matic was doing well in midfield, Pogba was proving why he was the best midfielder that season and the team in general looked sharp and serious. But then after that 2-1 loss City in the Manchester Derby we started to fade away and our football was getting boring to watch which is why we ended the season trophy-less which was disappointing and only ended up getting top four. But that’s season we won at the home of our noisy neighbors from two goals down as Pogba made the headlines, beating Chelsea 2-1, won against Spurs 1-0, won at the Emirates 3-1 and had some other memorable moments as Lingard was on fire for us. So disappointing that we didn’t win a trophy as we lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea, got knocked out by Sevilla in the UCL and got knocked out in the Carabao Cup and just got top four but that’s they way it is. there was no probs this season. ofc there was the fall out etc that i think mou handled badly but the problem was the season after. the 2017/18 season was a real progress where the team made a big improvement from the past seasons. they showed that they could be 2nd best although they where limited by squad depth. and ofc they went against a very high depth city squad. The following season they promised mou 280m on transfer. and he actually shared in an interview in pt who he wanted to sign that season : Milinkovic savic, so he can move pogba further up since paul had defensive issues, he wanted alex sandro at the time one of the best LB in the world defensively and going forward. he also wanted belotti to back lakaka XD and he wanted perisic on the left wing, he wanted bale at right wing and that year he also wanted to leave RM. and finally he wanted Toby alderwield to parnter with Eric bailly in that CB position. in the end they spent 70 m for jose title challenge season with fred and dalot. people still expected him to win with that team XD
@ernestopereira3653Ай бұрын
@@ernestopereira3653 you can't always have a war chest you have to work with what you have. He just bought matic and lindelof and now we should give him Alderwierald and Milinkovic Savic? We had the deepest squad in the division. Pep won the league with Delph at LB, otamendi and Stones not at his peak at CB. Klopp made a champjons league final thay year with Karius Lovren Lallana Milner Henderson Ox etc. If Mou just relaxed and worked with what he's got he would've been fine. But no he just blew it all up by falling out with our best player that year pogba leaving him on the bench against sevilla got us knocked out and entered his typical self destruct mode by humiliating the club afterwards. I wish for once he would put his ego aside and realise he had to reinvent himself and utilise the amazing squad we had. Just cause its gotten worse since hes left doesnt mean he was right. No excuses
@user-vm4by6qy3qАй бұрын
@@user-vm4by6qy3q I see what your saying and I don't want to disrespect you but you need to inform yourself better because you say he played Delph but let me just tell you some facts about that season. The back four that played the most games that year for city was messy LB otamendi kompany walker. The full backs they bought that specific year, WHY? Because pep wasn't happy with Delph etc he also bought Silva that year also ederso because he bought bravo the year before but he was bonkers. So you can't compare the server two my guy 🤣🤣 secondly when did van dijk come in for Liverpool and made them basically title challengers the season after ? Yeah there we go and then to top that the year after the same year José got Fred and dalot klopp got to naby Keita Fabinho Shaqiri Ryan Kent. So don't tell me a load of nonsense about he should ve been patient but when your board demands titles, and they support you with dalot and Fred while pep had an overhaul in the team buying Mahrez etc etc and klopp adding to his team. Don't expect the guy to be happy unless he's a smiley beta ole Gunnar solskjaer always happy with what he's got. There's a reason why he's the special one and although he hasn't been intelligent like pep has been with the clubs hes managed but he is still one of the best managers to get out there.

17/18, 20/21, 23/24 are best performed seasons we had in EPL since Sir Alex. One season when we finished with the most points, one when we scored the most goals, and one when we ended our 7 years without a title with the most satisfactory squad.

Probably our best squad post fergie (tbh you could argue the current side is better due to a stronger defence despite being on the receiving end to massive defeats but this side had a lot more depth and was very wealthy in attack). De gea probably the best GK at the time, Matic playing decent on holding mid, Pogba being the Pogba we know (a shame what transpired later on). Lingard, Rashford x Martial all contributed very well as attacking options (doe Martial should have finished a lot of chances i must say lool) Last but not least Lukaku, he may be criticised and joked about a lot nowadays but this season he was immense, always in the right places x had an eye for goal. Not to mention Mata, Fellaini, Herrera, Ibrahimovic, Mikitaryan, Sanchez etc. we had a deep team tbf. It’s just our defence was woeful loool. I can see why Mourinho said this was one of his greatest achievements, reaching 2nd w loool it’s crazy how this was our best season yet we were so behind city even midway through the league loool Decent season i guess the beginning we was so ruthless it made me so gassed for the season then the bs hit and the rest was history. That comeback against city was special, pogba did his thing🔥

That 0-0 at Liverpool in game 8. I remember at the time we were flying, Liverpool weren't great, and Jose sets up negatively for a 0-0 and it just instantly took the air out of this season. No surprise we lost to Huddersfield a week later. Never thought we were in the running after that, despite the decent results for the rest of the season it felt so telling for Jose long-term at United. Never gonna work.

The Red Devils have made no progress at all since Ferguson left the club. And signing Ronaldo was a huge achievement for us. And finishing top 4 in 2022/23 season. Don’t forget that we won. 21 community shields 20 premier leagues 3 champions leagues 12 fa cup 1 club World Cup 6 League Cups. And people don’t appreciate all of that. Although I don’t think anyone was going to stop City that season, losing to Huddersfield, Brighton, West Brom and also dropping two points against Southampton, Burnley and Stoke were things that probably wouldn’t have happened under Ferguson. Or at least not all in the same season anyway. That was a big part of the difference. Even all that still only amounts to 15 points and City won the League by 19 but it shows that they could have been more competitive. With all that being said and the flack United took that season for being seen as giving soft goals away and losing games that they should have won, they still came second and if they were as bad as all that, then it didn’t say much for the rest.

Zlatan asked mourinho to let him leave.
@@roryfear4925 yeah but I would've still tried to keep him and utilise him like AC Milan did. He would've kept the dressing room in line
there was no probs this season. ofc there was the fall out etc that i think mou handled badly but the problem was the season after. the 2017/18 season was a real progress where the team made a big improvement from the past seasons. they showed that they could be 2nd best although they where limited by squad depth. and ofc they went against a very high depth city squad.
No excuses
Matić what a player!!!
Great video, thank you! The official season reviews are really hard to find these days
This is actually one of the coolest things i have ever heard 3:42
That 0-0 at Liverpool in game 8. I remember at the time we were flying, Liverpool weren't great, and Jose sets up negatively for a 0-0 and it just instantly took the air out of this season. No surprise we lost to Huddersfield a week later. Never thought we were in the running after that, despite the decent results for the rest of the season it felt so telling for Jose long-term at United. Never gonna work.
Lingard & Fellaini under Jose🔥 surely this season from De Gea is highest individual peak we've ever seen for a GK, how was he pulling off these saves. Man lukaku was frustrating. Think i preferred watching oles 2nd place season to this one
Wow. I watched a couple of this but they’re just classics 🙂👏
That was last year when we got CL qualification (3rd), won the Carabao, and got to the FA Cup final under the manager with the higher ever Manchester United win ratio. Glad to be of help.
Martial was something else
Crazy how they complained about mourinho but he still won them 2 trophies one of them the europa league took them to second that man did more for them than any other manger after him
Good great fantastic work⚽️❤️👏🏻
the year of messi lingard
I fail to understand why all the managers that found Romero sidelined him yet Mourihno used him perfectly.
Mourinho is a great coach
These were convincing wins
Lukaku was a beast here
The Red Devils have made no progress at all since Ferguson left the club. But we still had lots of historic moments like winning the caraboa trophy 🏆 and finishing second in the premier league in. 2017/18 and 2020/2021 don’t forget reaching the Europe league final in 2021 unfortunately we got defeated by villarreal. No matter how good city or Liverpool play united is still in top
Maguire scoring against Manchester United🫠
Ponytail De Gea is in another level.
i'd argue 2016/17 was better though bc they won trophies. I know they didn't finish top 4 but man u fans 10 years from now will remember winning the europa league more than finishing 2nd and like 20 points off city. just my opinion though....
Facts it's all about winning trophies
It's a second rate trophy, a club of man utd's stature shouldn't even be in dat competition
@@hanklesacks although i do agree man u should be above playing in the europe leauge, the truth is they arent good enough to be in the champions league. For man u to progress as a club they have to admit to themselves they arent the man u of old. If man u were to go trophy less for the next ten years, their fans will remember them winning a europe leauge more than finishing 2nd and 20 points behind 1st. If they pushed city to matchday 35 then i would agree but if my memory serves correct, people already decided man city won the league in like feb of that year.
You could also argue last season may better aswell despite conceding a lot of goals we finished in the top 4 and was apart of two finals, winning the EFL cup. Still can’t take anything away from Mourinho👌🏾
Pound for pound our strongest squad post fergie
Hello Trequartista please could you do every PL goal 16/17? Thanks mate 🔥
I second this
this ^ 👍🔥
Was thinking recently how I kinda miss how the team used to be. If we just utilised matic more and brought in some depth we could’ve been on a very good track.
You surely right
Good old days 😢
Manchester United dropped points against small clubs that hunted them at the end of the
Jesse linggard clutch vs Burnley It is very cool
16:36 City were flying this season. 20 games in and they were 19 won and 1 draw.
2017/2018 .. I really remember
Rashford 13:43 😲🔥
Pogba is So so good 😢
I genuinely believed that we were gonna challenge all the way for the title after the start of the season that we had had...
Please do Tottenham 16/17 season 🙏🏾
Word
Here after losing to Chelsea 4-3 in the last minute. Not Eth out but questions need to be asked if he commands entitled players and his subs. Missing mourinho
This squad keeps clean sheets like water
Finally someone said it
miss De Gea 🥹
The really added Alexis Sanchez to this team 😅 imagine it worked out
miss Mkhitaryan so much, just imagine him and Bruno at same side...
please make it for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons
We should have won PL that season !!
Mourinho at United didn't get the flowers he deserved
Also 20/21 season.
Best season for Manchester United after post-Sir Alex Ferguson
Lingard 😳
This was Manchester United best season after sir Alex Ferguson
See players naauuuuuuu😢😢😢
De gea could fucking save titanic 🐐
I will never understand the Sanchez signing. I got so much hate from people for saying we should let him go to city, and go after someone younger. He robbed us blind.
Man utd didn't need Onana De gea is world 🌎 class head above him 😅❤😂
Seeing Fellaini gives me PTSD
👍👍👍
God I miss De Gea..
29:44 happy ending 😢
This was the time when the 115 charges were on going, so, maybe they did win the league!!!!
Man, what happened to lingard, he was carrying this team!!!!
Can't believe i watched the whole 30 mins 🙄
8:05 what an own goal by jones but it didn’t count 😂😂
Then:lingard Now:mctominay
Bro do Liverpool sesson 18/19
This was meant to be José's title winner.
Lingard used to score goals but could not keep his consistency
I miss Pogba
Remember this season so well. Our first two or three games ended with a 4 nill scoreline then mourinho started to park the bus against everybody. Ruined our momentum.
2 defeats in the first 15 damm...united nowadays equals that in the first 3
If you can’t see De Gea and Lukaku here that means something is wrong
DeGea 😭
This was De Gea’s best season
Best season since SAF but still weren't at a top level. Overperformed again in all areas, DDG was bailing the team out a fair few times. Liverpool and Spurs were far better teams, take a look at an xG table and it backs it up, performance-wise this team wasn't as good as the real table suggested.
Man it pisses me off we sold Lukaku instead of Martial. He’d be such a better option for Hojland to learn from
