He simply doesn't cut it with big teams. Sure, he won the French league with PSG, but even Lampard could do that with those players. What's never mentioned is that despite all the Europa wins, he has the biggest bottle job in CL history, blowing a 4-0 first-leg lead to lose the second leg 6-1 against Barcelona. He thrives at teams like Villa and Sevilla who play with a lot less pressure and expectation. History has shown that.

Unai wasn't afforded a fair opportunity nor was he adequately supported. He was only given 18 months, whereas Arteta has been in charge for four and a half seasons. In his first season, Arteta secured the FA Cup, a feat facilitated by his predecessor, Unai. Unai, who has since gone on to achieve multiple accolades elsewhere, was never given the trust and backing he needed. It's disheartening to still be told to "trust the process." Let's consider, Wenger left behind a team with players like Kolasinac and Mustafi still on long contracts. Whose oversight was that? It seems Unai was set up from the start to shoulder the blame.

He got us to a European final, the last time we got to a European final before that was against Barca in ‘06. Ima stick to my guns and maintain that he was rightfully sacked. after the whole xhaka incident blew up in his face, he lost the dressing room and shit just went downhill from there. However, what I will maintain tho is that the club did not give him a fair shake and he should’ve been backed properly the same way arteta’s been backed. And I’m even more critical of the club for who they replaced unai with. If you’re gonna sack him fine, fair enough but the idea is for the next guy to be a step up in quality not a novice upstart manager that was fresh out the womb so to speak lol. But nah man emery is a top manager, and it’s *toxic af* for our fans to be dragging his name thru the mud just to prop up their boi super mick arteta.

Emery has an amazing record with strikers. You can slate the defence but gotta give the guy some credit
@@samuelloification2749 I know m8, but you also cannot ignore the awful defence and his total passiveness to fixing it and approaching Josh for funds. What We need is Emery combined with Arteta,, then We'd win the League lol. Basically, an Arteta who isn't painfully and mind-numbingly stubborn and anti-Striker and who would accept peak Aubameyang.
@@netweed09 I didn't, I literally said 'you can slate the defense' but it's also not coincidence that Auba was that good when look at what he has done with Watkins, Bacca, Cavani etc. We have to be fair with our criticism. Felt like the original comment made out Auba rescued Emery when actually that part of it was good coaching even if the defensive side was bad coaching
@@samuelloification2749 Yes I mean, I do understand that. It's funny because I really prefer managers who have an eye for Good strikers and can get the most out of them. But in the end, I have to consider the overall reflected in Our League position. Arteta is a prophet for taking this club out of the trenches.
Arteta has done good but he has had 4 seasons. 2 of those seasons he finished 8th. Emery I might be wrong but I don't think he ever finished 8th.
@@lastwapbender So? This is Arteta's first job, meanwhile Emery had managed clubs like Seville and PSG before becoming Arsenal's coach. Moreover, Arteta inherited a far worse side as compared to Emery. First two seasons are irrelevant considering the fact that Arsenal are a European powerhouse now.
@@ali19231 Exactly 💯
@ali19231 Who spent more in the ist 2 seasons ? Unai has way more trophies than Arteta. Arteta has spent almost 1 billion since joining arsenal and can barely make good sales. Arteta has done a good job but don't compare them bcos one was backed 100% while the other was not. Next
@@lastwapbenderArteta has spent nowhere near 1 billion your mistaking Arsenal for another London club 😂, Moreover Arteta is not in charge of making player sales that’s the responsibility of the sporting director. The trophies emery has won in his career have more or less been europa leagues and has failed time and time again domestically to get his teams over the line for UCL qualification, he does not belong with the elites of this game and has proved he’s just a level below unfortunately.

And now Unai Emery has done the double over Arsenal as Aston Villa manager.
That would be their biggest achievement for next 20 years
I genuinely liked Unai Emery, felt as though the recruitment team let him down as well as the players for giving up on him at the end - though you could say the latter was down to his leadership skills. We eventually came out of it better but still think he deserved better.
Thats because Arteta get rid off that people like mustafi lacazette and that needs time to rebuild the club. The only one was Xhaka that stayed
@@HearszAMHe simple does not cut it with the big teams? And your basing that on one match with Barcelona coming back (not the first time Messi and Co have done that). What other big teams did he manage?
@@HearszAM I was thinking this myself the other day, it’s a really good point.
@@HearszAM I think similarly too. Emery is a great coach, but being a manager is more than just being a coach. Not only the tactical aspect, but managers have to know how to communicate, how to lead, basically things outside tactics. Emery can't handle big egos like Neymar and Oezil.
And the drumming in the Europa League final by Chelsea, total heartache.
Just goes to show how far this arsenal team has come. Arteta has done an excellent job on how much he had to sort out when Wenger and Emery was managing. Super Mikel Arteta 👌👌
I do respect Aubameyang for the 21 goals in that season

Lacazette and Auba were immense this season. However they didn’t show up in the UEL final and pur defence was probably the worst the club has ever seen
We've come a looooong way, but we always love arsenal.
Emery was a genius...deserved more money n time...will be the one who got 6 pts off the champs this season...hats off..id take him back if we ever needed a manager.

Emery just wasn't suited for Arsenal he's more suited for Villa and Mikel is more suited for us, Emery while a way better manager than Arteta wasn't really an "Arsenal man" if you get what i mean like i can see Mikel staying for years but Emery i couldnt really see him staying even if he won us that Europe League just like he did with Seville he jumped ship after winning them 3 in a row, still heavily respect him though as an Arsenal fan
You are delusional if you think Unai would have gotten us where we are today. Secondly Arteta won the Fa cup. Emery had no hand in it. He would never have gotten over City and Chelsea like Arteta's team did.
@promiseihezie9245 He is in his sentiments. Ain't no way Emery gets us this close to the tittle.
@@johnrockyryanYou obviously do not know the meaning of "suited".
Absolute NONSENSE.
that Laca Auba partnership was elite
It is was great crazy times!
Emery is such a streaky manager. At times his teams will go on spectacular winning runs and then all of a sudden be completely unable to win a game. That pretty much summed up his Arsenal tenure.
We could have put a coat hanger in front of the net and it would have been about as good a goalkeeper for us as Cech and Leno were this season
Leno was clear of Cech that season
Unai was good for us but only if our target was top 4 qualification. Arteta has taken us a step ahead and making us believe again
If only Arteta team had own one lethal striker like lacazette or aubameyang they were already EPL champion right now.
Özil masterclass @6:07
He did a very good job just to bottle it at the end. The summer signings for the next season were dreadful though
We got Martinelli for the next season which was good
Auba and Laca were brilliant that season but our defence was woeful. Unai was also not helped with the recruitment the following season.
Broo the defense was so shit😭😭 I can never forget that Ramsey flick against Fulham 🤯
It’s crazy to think how much arteta has revived this team because holy shit, this is so painful to watch
It is better than image in my mind

1st Game: this guy, he loves Arsenal
Good grief! I'd forgotten just how bad we were. Some geezer called Rice even managed to score against us....
One of the most incredible things with Arteta is how quickly he sorted our awful defence out - we were so weak at the back. Glad Emery has found plenty of success though, he's a great manager but I don't think he worked at Arsenal (though perhaps needed more time).
Under emrey ozil was a different beast
So much memorable moments.. feel sorry for Leno btw, he got sh*t defenders ahead him
The attack was fine, but the defense was shambolic. They conceded 51 goals in 38 games which averages into 1.34 goal conceded per game. The Chelsea team that finished 12th last year "only" conceded 47 goals, averaging into 1.24 goal conceded per game.
This the Arsenal team that killed my friends father. RIP Sir. He loved Arsenal so much. How I wish he was alive today
RIP a true Gooner
Arteta could have killed him before now 😂😂😂
Thank you for this piece of history. I didn't watch much of Arsenal at the end of Wenger's reign - too frustrating despite the numerous talents in the team. Emery didnt' much improve the consistency - but maybe his tenure was a bit too short. The current team under Arteta (April 2024 hopeful of winning the title ;-D) is amazing, the discipline in midfield and defence is at another level, but still (in my humble opinion) lack the striking power of the early 2000s.
Auba gave us good memories
Crazy that Emery instantly gets the blame for all of the defensive cracks when it was really caused by years of Wengers negligence. As soon as Koscielny and Sokratis paired up, our defense was solid. Emery took us to a European final in his first season and deserves praise for that. It took Arteta 2.5 seasons and £200m just to get top 5 whereas Emery did it in his first season. Emery deserves more credit
Everything else aside, Auba was so good. If he'd played in this current squad, he'd score 20+
Monreal very underrated.
I’ve seen us finish 8th with winless runs lasting months and no goals in 5 games but this was by far our worst season since pre-Wenger. At least the mess later happened behind closed doors.
No it wasn't ffs. One point off 4th and a Europa League final.
@@arsenalogist4285 If you're purely looking at results then yeah, but this style of play was not sustainable and we absolutely fell apart from top to bottom towards the end of the season. It was purely chaotic, there wasn't a whole lot of hope for the future and we had no idea if youngsters like Saka and ESR were going to make it. Towards the end of Arteta's first full season there was hope due to the youngsters being embedded into the lineup and our strong end to the season, and the knowledge that we were going to invest in the summer. I felt way worse at the end of this season being 5th than I felt in 2021/22 when we finished 8th
@Yaqoot The games about results, not style of play. Emery played attacking football because that suited the squads strengths. I agree, though, things did get messy. But you can't say this is our worse season ever
@@arsenalogist4285I think the guy just worded it wrong but I understood what he meant, this season felt a lot worse than the 8th place ones because it didnt instill any hope for the future
@Yaqoot Well that's subjective. I think Emery had a good team and as a coach, he was tactically flexible. His main issue, imo, was communication and inability to command respect. Regardless, our worst ever season has to be 20/21; we were atrocious.
lacazette was class wonder why they got rid of him

Arsenal fan here, and I agree. It’s actually sad to see all the slander he’s getting. It’s mad over exaggerated too ngl. Unai emery did very well to instantly make us relevant again post wenger.

I don't think this was as bad as people think. We finished 5th and it was Unai's first full season. If he was given time I'm sure we would have improved and maybe in a few years challenged for a title. But I'm glad we got MA now so I guess it was the right move to let him go.
