    • @@kyleemerson831 You're probably right, though I initially took it the way Mixxie and Lia did. It depends on the person and how much hearing they have. I have an internal voice because I can hear people's voices (though I can't understand them), and I speak English as well as ASL. Someone who's more significantly deaf than I am won't necessarily give the same answer. Like with a lot of the answers to the questions discussed here, it varies depending on whom you're talking to.

  • I think the first question about deaf people being able to think was actually trying to ask “ do they have an inner voice like in your head voice “

    @brianda5793@brianda57934 жыл бұрын
    • If they've always been completely deaf and could never hear then having an inner voice would be impossible since they were never exposed to a spoken language or sound in general. Their thinking would be purely visual. The same way someone that was always blind would be incapable of thinking visually and would have their thinking be all auditory.

    • I think it might have been so the words are near their faces It's very important to not just get the word translation but also the tone from facial expressions because we can't really 'hear' sign language. A lot is expressed through a face's "non manual markers" which are important in communication, especially in sign language which is visual rather than auditory. So putting the subtitles at the top closer to their faces might be a way of getting us to see their expressions as we read the words.

  • it's funny how some hearing people think that deaf people can't talk. when i was in junior high, i have a deaf classmate who's so loud. he's funny and is very energetic. sometimes he laughs in the middle of a class discussion, lmao. and we would just laugh it off. but he's not often staying in our classroom cause he hangs out with the other deaf students. he's very talkative and funny that we would often choose to chat with him than actually listening to the teachers lol. he's just such a funny person. we would often joke around and he would say f*ck off or f*ck you as "ma yo!" and we would just laugh with him. i hope everyone learns that deaf people are the same as everyone. they chat during class discussions. they laugh, very loudly that is. cause they couldn't hear themselves and wouldn't know if they're being too loud. they joke around too. they're very loving and caring. unlike some hearing people

Babies don't know speech, so they think in pictures. The concept that a person who doesn't know how voice is even supposed to sound like, who doesn't know what sound actually is, can think in sentences, in real voice inside their head - it's an interesting thing.

Kinda like tone of voice. So being very expressive and kinda exaggerating helps emphasize on what they're saying. Sign language comes in different languages, so Asl is American sign language, there's British sign language, Irish sign language, and more. So it's not all the same.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I met and have had encounters with a number of deaf people in my lifetime. I have found them to be some of the most kind, considerate and well mannered people I have ever met. I once attended a stand-up comedy routine performed by a deaf person. It was during an ASL class. The audience was made up of deaf and hearing people. While the performer signed for those who were deaf, there was a voice coming over the speaker to interpret his signs, for those of us who are just beginning to learn sign language. It was quite the experience. The entire audience was laughing. It didn’t matter if you were deaf or hearing. We all enjoyed it. It was quite a memorable experience and one I’m glad that I had.

I was a daycare infant teacher and wanted to communicate with the babies better and it was very effective I recommend it for any parent with young children or babies it made life for the babies so much easier 2.I perfected signing for a crush he was so darn cute and the sweetest thing ever I remember sitting by him and he never said a thing no one else was deaf like him so he felt out of place I already knew basic signing and he was elated that someone his age knew something about his way of communicating besides the teachers. We were great friends we went out every weekend to go to the movies or skating or the game arcade. He was awesome so sad he moved he could've been my future husband that I met from high school lol

He was trying to raise awareness for the deaf and was handing out ASL alphabet pens and I started signing with him. He was so amazed and thankful a hearing person was signing with him. Only a few tables away a group of girls started mocking us by moving their hands around and trying to mimic us and staring at us. They were really rude making fun of us, but I’ll never forget making his day. It even seemed like these two people had to think about the answers sometimes, and what they had to say was super interesting. • I have to say, CODA inspired me to start learning ASL :) so here I came across this cool video learning a little bit more about the deaf world ~ sign language seems so .. expressive, I love it :) visually representing words kind of puts one closer to the real thing they describe. I feel words are sometimes too disconnected from what they describe. Not to mention some of hearing people say “oh, that’s hilarious” referring to a joke.. but without any emotional expression of what they claim to experience. Thanks for sharing these insights with the rest of the world.

I usually communicate by writing & also paying close attention to the movements. I never want a customer to feel frustrated interacting with me if they are either blind or deaf....so far my approach has been good but there's always improvement especially learning sign language. I always take my time to really focus & understand the questions and hopefully be able to provide information as well to my customers. Positive vibes

    @stanfield3239@stanfield32394 жыл бұрын
    • Its because it is more visual, for example in japanese the character for person reminds me of a kids draw (like a stick man), the ice looks loke a pile of ice cubes and so on, so relaying on visualization rather than vocalization is actually very logic. • Since most Deaf people are growing up in a hearing society, they usually will just learn the written form of the native spoken language. What’s sad is that a lot of Deaf people don’t really even get the chance to learn that written language at all, as they are mostly born to hearing parents who don’t sign, and they end up with a very poor education ☹️ (Look up Nyle Dimarco’s work on Language Acquisition for Deaf kids!) So I think it would be quite rare for a Deaf person to know multiple written languages (eg English and Japanese) when they would most likely know the other Signed language instead :)
