He’s only a few years older than myself so I can definitely say that this is the way many of us think and we were never television stars. So to the young folks who really enjoyed this openness, frankness and directness, go talk to some of your older relatives. Call them and talk to them. You’ll soon find that there is wisdom like this in your own families that you can tap into. Don’t wait and don’t hesitate because we will soon not be here on the planet anymore.

Remaking "The Color Purple" is like an attempt to remake "E.T." (speaking of Spielberg). Certain films CANNOT be remade. Just because it's a majority Black cast/Black-centered film.....doesn't exempt "TCP" from the aforementioned "rule". Furthermore, Black folks had enough drama and trauma movies, from Tyler Perry and the like (ie; slave movies and "Civil Rights" movies. 🙄) In my Mary J. Blige voice "NO MORE DRAMA IN MY LIFE..."

That's why we're constantly auditioning or booking roles." In most cases, it is because they live above their means, supporting their families, etc. I have no doubt Taraji didn't fight one some of these contracts because she NEEDED that cash because she knew if she said no then they'd just scoop up another black female actor who would say yes.

    • @@OurKindofEntertainmentYou are so on point. Most casting directors keep a list of folks that they can get in case the actor they want is not available or they/their team are being hard to deal with, NEXT. Directors and Producers call the shots and have to work with the budget. If you are a really BIG name, they got what you asking for and everybody else gets what is negotiated. If you got a name then there's others also with a name too that can get that job if you don't work out. Look at how many others could have done the roles that these ladies worked yet are upset about the pay! They have types and there's several types like both of them. Look at the movies Taraji has been in couldn't Sanaa Lathan or Gabrielle Union have done those roles. Obviously there was somebody who filled those roles that Monique turned down after Precious. The train keeps on going if you aren't ready to jump on board and can't negotiate a deal that works. Just don't take the job if you gone be upset later.

Actors who attend the Cannes Film Festival to promote a film that's part of the festival's program may have their travel and accommodations covered, but they don't get paid for their time. That's a small sacrifice to rub shoulders with the next Director/producer or studio exec for your NEXT PROJECT. She dropped the ball and sabotaged her own career.

If you sign or let your team agree to something that is not really what you want, that is on YOU! You can't eat the steak at the restaurant and then ask for your money back. Tell them what's wrong with it and let them fix it or send it back and get something else or leave. These folks should have asked for what they wanted and if that was not negotiable, then leave the deal on the table and not fuss about it after you worked it. I understand when you want to do a favor for a friend and work on their project for a small stipend or smaller fee than you are worth. Cool, then you did that and it was a favor you did so why are you upset afterwards. It was a favor and you took the deal. Demond is on point.

She did the American promo which was part of her contract and refused the European promo, precisely because she was not contracted to do so. The industry is clearly exploitetative and Monique was black-balled because she refused to be exploited. Yes, she and her husband don't have tact in terms of how they address matters, but that does not in any way deligitimize her claims. Again, it's amazing how most people clearly heard Tyler admit that Monique did not breach her contract and was well within her right to not do work she wasn't contracted for, conveniently turn a blind eye and pretend that she's in the wrong. Showbiz as a whole is clearly exploitetative, more so to black talent and there appears to be an inherent expectation that black entertainers should just be content with fame.

You can sue, but sometimes the WS or ✡️ are on code and you still get done dirty. Sometimes you hire a good lawyer, but they don’t catch everything. I think 50 was having issues with STARZ and I know he had good lawyers going thru those contracts. Which is why he signed a new deal to develop shows for HULU. They’re probably the ones forcing all that 🏳️‍🌈 sex into Power. They’re even crowbarring some of it into BMF. Probably coming from the top.

    • @@wingchundragonYes & No. With actors I agree with Demond, unless they the studio tries to switch up. With writers & creators, you can refuse to sell your script or concept. If Norman Lear steals it, Monte can sue, but Lear’s folks are powerful in the courts like Hollywood. It’s just the truth. The sista Sophia Stewart who wrote the concept to The Matrix, got ripped off. Those Wachowski Brothers, who both are trans now (Wachowski Sisters) are part of both of group of folks, running Hollywood. That movie franchise made well into the 9 figures. Demond is coming from the standpoint of an actor/comic, so he’s largely correct there. But Black people who write or develop show concepts, can be pushed out. Especially back then. Look at David “Harry O” Harris, who funded Death Row Records from prison. His lawyer David Kenner got with Suge Knight, they both stabbed Harry O in back and cut him out the company. Kenner helped with the contracts, so he knew how to operate around them. Demond had a better grasp of the business. Too many younger people who have access to the internet, view things today like it was yesteryear. There was far less info and mentors for younger Blacks getting into the game back in the 70s. Demond had a father, some of these dudes didn’t. Even Redd Foxx had studio & IRS issues, but that largely was his fault. Sniffing coke and tricking with women. Many of these Hollyweird folks would rather cancel a successful Black show, than give into the demand. They don’t want to give uppity negr0es more ideas. We saw this with Dave Chappelle and Comedy Central. They had the money, but refused to pay up. Lucky as a standup comic with his level of talent, he could operate around the system easier than an actor. A great comedian can go straight to the market, just like a rapper.
