@@voidboi0 there definitely needs to be a threat of hostile npcs. On top of npcs robbing you, the movie gives a nod to the book with a deranged civilian who risks alerting the aliens to your position with louder and louder exclamations of hopelessness as they slowly loose their minds. The equivalent scene in the book is absolutely terrifying. I don't think it would be too difficult to recreate this in the game; perhaps an initially friendly npc who follows you around as part of a side quest, until they ultimately eventually loose trust in you and begin to fall into insanity, inevitably drawing tripod attention to wherever you're hiding.

We need Tom Cruise to review the game and make suggestions on what needs to be added based on his experience from behind the scenes bit that never made it to the movie. He be a great addition and supportive for this fan-made game! The casts behind Avatar The Last Airbender were impressed with Elca Gaming's fan-made project. So, we should do the same with Tom Cruise!

Easter egg Idea: if you go to one part of the map at the right time, you can witness a cylinder fall from the sky like the ones the Martians came down, in the book. Ofc have it where you can't get to it but it would be a fun little nod to the book also have the book laying around in random places in the map, heck maybe even they could be collectibles and you find a certain amount you get customizations. Also a random house that is locked but when you go near the celler doors you hear the one guy from the film saying not my blood also randomly you hear the scream of Rachel from the movie as she screams alot, just in the distance you hear it. Also maybe some nods to the the older war of the worlds film and the animated film and maybe the BBC series.

Hello, Void I would like to start off by explaining my perspective of this game and correct a few points you made involving Dedram and I. For starters the tripod model was made completely from scratch by Dedram (while the probe model was made by me) which he then passed onto me to rig and UV Map. Once I finished rigging the machine, I then sent it back to Dedram to begin animating it. In the process I had given the machine its first set of textures without any real details, before joining Dedram in animating this machine. In total Dedram and I combined made give or take 20ish animations for any possible movement this machine could have done. (To this day I still see both our animations being used, granted they have been most likely tweaked by Raf himself.) Raf all the while was working on the programming of the game getting the environment set up and basic game mechanics. For quite some time Dedram and I were working on this to a degree nonstop, back when there wasn't a patreon or when money wasn't the focal point of making this game. I am quite aware that Raf has spent money on assets in Unity's Asset store which originally wasn't an issue until it felt no longer like a War of the Worlds game but more like a kit bashed project filled with different art styles with tripods walking around. I noticed slowly more and more that the motivation for this game was becoming focused on money, than having a genuine passion about war of the worlds and making something that genuinely portray what the movie felt. The reason I say this is because of the numerous times he changed his mind about the price of this game. Originally, he said it would be a free game, which is the main reason Dedram and I helped him make the game in the first place as the likelihood of any legal repercussions affecting us would be very slim, since it could be played off as a "fan project". Once money started getting involved Dedram and I ultimately stepped away due legal repercussions amongst other things.
Hi, Slendy. Thank you for reaching out and bringing your side of the story to things (granting it's you). The models and animations were very impressive right from the start. It's amazing to know you guys had worked out ~20 animations. I'm sure you both had a huge impact with all that time committed, and there does seem to be a shift in the feeling to the game from the early uploads to today. I understood there to be budding differences in the approach to the game and I appreciate your further clarity. I am saddened a unifying solution could not be reached, but I respect the convictions of all parties involved. Would you say it was ultimately your decisions to step away? You both certainly have talent, have you and Dedram pursued your visions for a WOTW fan project? Or done any other work since?
@@voidboi0 Hey Void, yes its really me. When it comes to who's decision it was, Dedram and I had the same feeling towards the underlying fact that the machine itself is under its own IP and therefore copyrighted as well as the fact that Raf had wanted to make the game as close as possible to the movie which in itself is concerning as again the movie is copyrighted as well. Its a shame "no one has decided to make a book accurate game". But maybe one day there will be ;). Additionally my friends and I have been making a War of the Worlds series called Underfooked which can be seen over at my friend reddalek555's channel. At the same time I know Dedram is making a WOTW game in Unreal Engine 5 using mostly original assets/sounds and environments and it genuinely looks incredible, for more info on that though id say to ask him. Other than War of the Worlds projects, I have been working on a Subnautica Project called Return of the Ancients which brings back the Gargantuan Leviathan.
@@voidboi0 I left similarly due to potential legal action and decided to let go of raf's project. I created the model in roughly a weeks worth of work, the rigging was done by slendy as stated and i enjoyed animating the walk cycle and a few more, while I am happy that people have a renewed interest in all things war of the worlds, I feel as though some will be disappointed in the game. Never the less, I haven't entirely given up on war of the worlds as I am currently developing a game semi based off the novel which I will be posting updates about soon. I completely understand the "No mod support" but I do still believe there should be some sort of built in cheats like "god mode, fly, unlimited ammo, no hunger" etc.. Just so that some players that just want to experience it without the stress or if they just want to mess around, Then they can do so. Another thing I think they should implement is gas for the cars, If realism is the main focus a vehicle shouldn't last forever (unless I missed a part in this video where you explained that already) But adding things like gas cans or being able to find ways to get gas out of other vehicles or something would be a awesome idea! Anyways thanks for the video it was fantastic and as someone whos been a fan of this movie series since as long as I can remember, I'm super excited and glad that someone finally didn't give up on making a game like this (I've been part of multiple WOTW development discords and patrons over the years) So this is a huge relief to me, And I can't even begin to explain how excited I am! Thank you Raf and the entire Team! And thank you VoidBoi for covering this topic and bringing it some more light and recognition!
I believe sandbox elements will allow you to tweak all those kinds of settings in Free Roam. I really like the gas ideas! I haven't found discussion of that. I'll make sure to pass it along. You've been following this all for quite some time! I can't imagine the let downs and new excitement. You're very welcome and thanks for enjoying the video!

At the time of recording this, the game was planned to be released for free but that is since changed. In future interviews, Raf states he won't charge more than ~$30 for it. A few other big features have changed as well, see my wotw playlist.

I think tanks and other military vehicles could be implemented if there is some role system. Maybe you can choose to start as a civilian, cop, army, and gives you unique perks. Cop starting with a gun and maybe people trust you more, army you can operate military vehicles and wepons and also people less likely to attack you, civilian would kinda be the default maybe you start with food. I think that would be interesting and people can get the fantasy of blowing a tripod up and it make sense as your role would be army. Hell if you want add a scientist role so let's say the military does take a tripod the scientists role then can make into a wepon for humanity. I think this would work more for multi-player games.
Yeah I was thinking these kinds of things could be executed well in multiplayer modes. All fun thoughts!

They should have a feature were you can be a member of the military and play that role always going to the front instead of being a civilian who doesn't know what's going on like if your a member of the military you get a cool intro were your base becomes to mobilise before the invasion because if the blackouts and spottings on Mars it would be amazing

Me too! Raf mentioned having NPC followers, so it's possible you could have a pet down the line. Characters classes would also be really cool!

During the topic of vehicles, you mentioned that the creator wanted to stick to realism saying how the average joe wouldn't know how to operate a tank, it goes well with the fact that even if you did know, you would need 3 other people inside the tank with you as there are certain roles to be filled that cannot be done by a single person, however- in multiplayer it possibly could be done, just maybe. (I would also like to argue that tanks |and maybe the A-10| are the only true tripod killers. tripod shields seem to pre-emptively detonate / block anything that carries explosives at fast speeds like missiles, mortars, explosive bullets or grenades, although kinetic energy penetrators' like bullets from a gun or an armor-piercing-fin-stabilized-discarding-sabot round could possibly pass straight through the shields and severely damage the tripod, although normal bullets do so little damage that it is plain un-noticeable. buuut I also don't really know if shields block non explosives too.)
Yeah you bring up a good point. And maybe fore MP, they just make it so that in order to operate the full tank, you need all three positions filled, otherwise you have switch seat, like in Battlefield or something. It could encourage people to work together.

That's a good question! I believe you'll be able to do it in both. Also wouldn't seem to make sense why he wouldn't allow you in single player as well.

You'll likely be able to play single player as tripod. But I agree that should be announced and there should definitely be 3rd person!

So like, the car alarm and burglar alarms are a good idea to add more challenge, but wouldn't they not work cause the power is shot? I mean, for house security systems, irl, they do have a back up battery, but they only last for like, a half a day to maaaaybe a full day. So if we are going for realism, I don't think it will work. I guess for cars, if able to get power to them, sure, maybe an alarm will go off? Not as familiar with car stuff.

Right now, it's not planned, but with enough support it could happen. Secondly, if the 05s are included in the game files, there's no way console companies would take that risk without a license from Paramount.

I too would license a project if I liked it. But it's totally up to the IP holders. There can be many reasons for why they shut a project down.

a short and simple question How are you doing with the game in terms of performance? From the opinions of the people I met, they said it was horrible.. I was told that a guy called slendy had his pc crashed because of the game, I guess it was too much for his pc. so I'm a bit hesitant to buy the game.
Waiting until you hear satisfactory news about an aspect you care about is never a bad idea. But the game is still in alpha stages.
It's an amazing game. It has a few bugs but right now it's my favorite game ever. I am running it on a alienware area51m
