    • Well I don't think there's nothing funny. First he has to do the song, than train it (a lot) and if it's a hit he hears it everywhere and don't forget all the gigs and tours. That's why I think he isn't that excited to show Rolling Stones how he made the song. And the last thing it always doesn't mean that the artist likes a song but if the song becomes a hit..well yea

    • You set the bar for "genius" ridiculously low. He can sing and play piano and self-produce (by necessity, since record companies won't advance most artists the money to record with a producer). Tens of thousands of other musicians do the same. Now Sturgeon's law applies, 95% of everything is cr*p, and Charlie Puth is really good, but that doesn't make him a genius. There isn't one genius-level element in this song: not the melody, the chords, the lyrics, nor the production; it's just another good song much better than the 95%. I'm not even sure he's more talented than Shawn Mendes, are they both geniuses?

There you can see the hard work and effort he puts in; moreover, he is graduated from Berklee College of Music meaning he has the musical background and sufficient knowledge to put what goes from his mind. • @@WakaWaka2468 Haha that comment of yours is a joke or a troll, take a pick. You have NO IDEA what kind of precise talent you need to have to build a whole song, be able to sing (oh, and have an amazing voice), plus - know your way around mixing engineering which includes EQing, compression all while knowing what sound to shape and yet not crash frequencies... properly do mastering too which is a whole other thing. By the way - you need to know how to record yourself well. I know a lot of singers who have a great voice but they can't properly record themselves let alone layering and complicated layering (like Charlie does in a lot of his songs and other Pop artists). Later, you need to know how to promote yourself. Which Charlie Puth does amazingly if you ever followed his content other than just what's on KZhead. So he's basically a musician, singer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, performer, marker and more. Now, back in the days... you would just come up with a beautiful voice and all the things I've listed above would be done for you if you found the right deal with the right label. So all in all - one would suggest music standards went up rather than dropped.

New artists get an advance and have to pay for everything. There is a video clip of Tupac flashing a bunch of hundreds talking about how good Death Row takes care of him. That money was all on loan. Lil Dicky on the other hand made a music video for free, it’s called Save That Money. New artist don’t realize that they get a small piece of the pie and STILL have to pay for everything.

I have a hard time just like right off the bat looking at notes and knowing what they are I have to like basically go in and count up from C and figure out what the note is in write it in and it just like practice and then it's all memorization after that because I play by ear and so all use my voice note on my phone and a Melody will come up in my head out of the blue or I'm listening to a song and it inspires me to make some other Melody based off of the song that's playing and then I'll record it into my voice notes and then save it for a future date to make a song out of it.

  • That 'anti-drop' is what made me love this song so much because there's a great build-up to fewer instruments and that was pretty new when this song came out. People are following the trend a lot more now though and I love it. Charlie Puth is probably one of my favourite artists because he's just so talented!

    • @@davef3179 i believe you just described what an antidrop is haha. a regular "drop" would have that build up and then go even further or punchier, but in this case it builds up then goes into a really toned down, bareboned rhythm.

    • Not sure why everyone is making out this antidrop shit is something new. Pretty much all of EDM from 2010 to 2018 was "anti-drops". Knife Party and others started doing that shit and then it was everywhere. Replacing rave synths with massive cow bells and shit.
