It's kinda funny how he sounds bored of his own music yet he's written multiple hit songs.
Sophia Borderon well eventually you get bored by your own songs after so many plays xD
you usually don't like your own music at the end of the production process :(
Well I don't think there's nothing funny. First he has to do the song, than train it (a lot) and if it's a hit he hears it everywhere and don't forget all the gigs and tours. That's why I think he isn't that excited to show Rolling Stones how he made the song. And the last thing it always doesn't mean that the artist likes a song but if the song becomes a hit..well yea
he loves voicenotes and he wished it was his debut. he actually didn’t care for his debut album at all because that’s the image hollywood wanted for him even though he didn’t want it.
Disagreed. I think he always seems so proud of his music (not talking about his debut album).
His range is so impressive. His speaking voice is fairly deep, yet has a fantastic upper register
Ikr its so freaking impressive before i heard his voice i thought that it would be soft.

The fact that he made this kind of a hit song all alone while other singers would have 10 people around them! He's definitely one of the most talented musicians out there

I envy this guys musical intelligence. He’s honestly a musical genius.
kzhead.info/sun/g7icYb2KqKVnaWg/bejne.html Make smART your life
You set the bar for "genius" ridiculously low. He can sing and play piano and self-produce (by necessity, since record companies won't advance most artists the money to record with a producer). Tens of thousands of other musicians do the same. Now Sturgeon's law applies, 95% of everything is cr*p, and Charlie Puth is really good, but that doesn't make him a genius. There isn't one genius-level element in this song: not the melody, the chords, the lyrics, nor the production; it's just another good song much better than the 95%. I'm not even sure he's more talented than Shawn Mendes, are they both geniuses?
@@skierpage better than 95 thateans genius in my view ehh

As a musician myself, I really really like his brain and the way he's doing things. I did the phone thing pretty often in my car because I've never learned writing notes 'n stuff.. What a great musician..
He is to songwriters what Penn and Teller are to magicians, in my opinion. And I do mean that in the best of ways. The only people who get mad at him are people who are more interested in elitism and exclusion than in songwriting.
Imagine performing on stage in front of thousands and remembering that every sound playing out of those giant speakers is something you made at home. It'd be strangely comforting for me.
He's brutally honest about his work. I love that.

That's more than a gift, imo. There you can see the hard work and effort he puts in; moreover, he is graduated from Berklee College of Music meaning he has the musical background and sufficient knowledge to put what goes from his mind. Other than that, every soul is special and somehow produces special things, he is just mastered the way he expresses himself.
It’s impossible to not appreciate artists like that. Being able to sing is talent. Being able to produce is talent. Being able to do both and on that kind of level? That’s something else.
Because he can use a computer program and shitty melody? It's amazing how much standards have dropped in music.
@@WakaWaka2468 Haha that comment of yours is a joke or a troll, take a pick. You have NO IDEA what kind of precise talent you need to have to build a whole song, be able to sing (oh, and have an amazing voice), plus - know your way around mixing engineering which includes EQing, compression all while knowing what sound to shape and yet not crash frequencies... properly do mastering too which is a whole other thing. By the way - you need to know how to record yourself well. I know a lot of singers who have a great voice but they can't properly record themselves let alone layering and complicated layering (like Charlie does in a lot of his songs and other Pop artists). Later, you need to know how to promote yourself. Which Charlie Puth does amazingly if you ever followed his content other than just what's on KZhead. So he's basically a musician, singer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, performer, marker and more. Now, back in the days... you would just come up with a beautiful voice and all the things I've listed above would be done for you if you found the right deal with the right label. So all in all - one would suggest music standards went up rather than dropped.
@@WakaWaka2468 no musically speaking the production on this song is absolutely amazing, his singing voice is also hella nice. Also, idk about music degrading but Puth went to a conservatory with jazz piano lmao

@@XieTianXieDi888 that's insane so he literally needs no one lol
@@reignfury819 he needs a mix engineer but idk, he does seem to know his way around pro tools lol
reign fury Pretty much. Record companies try to squeeze artist for every penny they are worth. The more you don’t actually need them, the better bargaining position you have. New artists get an advance and have to pay for everything. There is a video clip of Tupac flashing a bunch of hundreds talking about how good Death Row takes care of him. That money was all on loan. Lil Dicky on the other hand made a music video for free, it’s called Save That Money. New artist don’t realize that they get a small piece of the pie and STILL have to pay for everything.
I am AWED by the song composition process. It is so amazing to think of all of the layers of sound that go into a hit song, and the amount of time it took to put it together and mix it. You can really get a feel for the song and hear parts you haven't heard before
He's a genius. The way he looks into details which audience doesn't even know it's there in the song. That's a crazy level song engineering
i love how self conscious he is about everything. it almost feels like like he's really afraid that the music nerds are gonna roast him for being too basic and formulaic, but the normies are gonna roast him for being too pretentious, and he's trying to be relatable to both ends of the spectrum at once haha.

you don't need to know music theory to know how to produce songs like this! It's not necessary. Just helps a bit when transcribing chords and chord progressions, melodies, scales, etc.
u can take Music Theory 101 from Berkelee (the same school charlie puth went to) for free on EdX
Library card and hours spent there to learn ?
That's exactly how I am I play music by ear and I hated taking piano lessons. I have a hard time just like right off the bat looking at notes and knowing what they are I have to like basically go in and count up from C and figure out what the note is in write it in and it just like practice and then it's all memorization after that because I play by ear and so all use my voice note on my phone and a Melody will come up in my head out of the blue or I'm listening to a song and it inspires me to make some other Melody based off of the song that's playing and then I'll record it into my voice notes and then save it for a future date to make a song out of it.
He’s only 5 years younger, but his view of things like an ‘acoustic guitar’ is so vastly different. Growing up in the heart of the 90s..it was guitar everywhere.
