As soon as I saw your video about Jed, I came back and watched this for probably the fourth time. My favorite videos of yours always seemed to be the ones with him. He had a wealth of knowledge, and it was always fun to hear him teach and explain what he was doing. It seemed he truly had a passion for what he did. I feel horrible for his wife and daughters, and I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

@@rrssmooth6643 He passed around the 20th of January this year, doing a storm cleanup and the vibrations of his saw knocked loose a hanger.

Your humbleness and ability to connect with the ‘tougher man guy’ personalities all the way to the guy who has a great sense of humor, is what brings you success. Always speaking good of whoever you are working with is another good trait to have. I’m sure it brings you plenty of networking business but I gota believe you don’t really need a network to keep the business flowing.
Gordy really makes it look easy, to line up cuts on a big stalk like that amazes me and folks that’s why they make wrapped handles. Good job everyone 👍💪🏻

That's sounds like a good idea but business has a way of killing a friendship. The amount of capital involved in a crane based tree company is enough to change everything about you that's good. If you can juggle both with a positive attitude your a special person.

After 15 years of tree work and could carless if i ever run a saw again in my life its fun to watch it on youtube and i learn new stuff i wish i knew back then

In the process of getting an Environment Science degree towards arbor culture and just received my climbing gear from treestuff. Jed’s tutorial on 8 ways to down a tree was a huge help. Absolutely loved it! This job reminded me of every side hustle job I did after company hours or on the weekends. Minimal equipment, patchwork of people with maximum skill sets, people with some skill sets and others armed only with onlooking enthusiasm. “Go to my car and get the “ _______” out of the trunk” yelled from working height brought such a smile to my face only another tree man could understand. Really hope to see more raw multiple camera shots edited together like this……and also work with Inbred Jed too. You guys are solid people 🤙

Fifty years ago I spent summers in WV on a farm, we cut many trees for a small firewood business. In those days a face cord of dried oak was $22.50 It amazes me somebody didn't get killed. All I can say is you guys are an awesome team, and you got some kinda courage. Work like that is scary as hell, Love watching you work.

I’ve had a 40’ head start in a tree when Jed has just plowed past me like I’m standing still. It was fun to watch him give you a run for your money and did it just for fun.

I'm lucky to see KZhead with quite a sound system. The thud of the trunks falling followed by the echo was quite fun to hear, although being there must have been even better. Most trees I cut either aren't that big and/or still have some branches on them, so I rarely get to hear that clean planet-sized bass drum hit.

So nice that your family gets to travel with you, and that we finally got to "meet" them. If you ever head to Northern Colorado/Southern Wyoming, let me know. So fewer trees here and much smaller, except for cottonwoods in cities/towns. Stove-burners, mostly.

Just discovered this channel, talk about bringing back memories of logging in high school for some spare work, but nothing like this. Magicians with the saw, both of you. Can't imagine the weight of the kahunas you gotta have to go up that high, while lugging saws, and having a good time in the process. Looking forward to the next vid.

Truly awesome boys! Great teamwork, and banter. Appreciate your familiarity with your well maintained tools. About thirty years ago I was high enough up a big pine to look over a house roof into a back garden ( as we call them here in UK ) where my young guys were drinking tea. It was then that the thought occurred to me that I'd done my share of climbing! We had a Black Poplar ( Cottonwood by another name) fall in a storm, I watched it go - it was a shade shorter than yours but a good deal heavier with a clean solid trunk to 40ft and 8ft across at ground level. Took two of us five days to log, brash and clear and the client only wanted to pay for four! Happy days.
Gordy I knew that was a redlight as soon as you fired it up and hit the throttle. Jake congrats on the new channel

WOW. NICE Job Guys!! Just Subscribed for 1st time. Watching you now - Just Had to!! I've worked trees/arboring for nearly two decades and still climb (age 58). Your job was as gnarly as they come, AND, you ID'ed/mentioned just about every real risk from the start: climbing/repelling/gear hazards; multi-vs-single climbing safeties & climber preference; dropping limbs unloaded (flat); risks of topping & splits (could easily KILL U); risks dropping logs w/ bark seams; loading and drop hazards; determining drop zone safety exits; etc. You climbers made it look EASY. I’d go thru at least a Gatorade for the climb up - didn’t look like you Guys ever cracked a sweat (Yep, I’m jealous). Base cuts as perfect as they come. You guys nailed it. Great Job and great team synergy - would love to work a job with you guys. AND - This was a rare example of mixing talents of two similar but distinct disciplines: Arboring w/ real climbers, and forestry/logging. Most loggers don’t want to climb jack, they love the 'drop & run' technique. Similarly, many tree service folks refuse to do the job without a bucket truck. Loved the log flip contest from the top and your playful banter discussing it. Nice.. My Biggest was 165ft Poplar sitting on an initial distressed(rotten) 45-foot section. Casual observer here... A few years ago, I had a tree service come in and down a silver maple which we had let grow from start to well over 80 feet tall with five trunks from one stump. It was fascinating to watch these men work from my position on the ground. Your arial video brings a whole new perspective to your profession and I applaud all of you for your work and bringing this to those of us with time and interest to watch them.

Since I found your channel a year or so ago the videos have helped a lot in my own climbing techniques. I thought I was odd that you hadn’t uploaded a video for quite a while, fortunately this video just popped up in my suggested videos so I’m subscribed again. I’ve just watched the first video explaining everything. It sucks that it ended like that, something you nurtured and watched grow was taken away from you. You can hear the pain and disappointment in your voice. On to bigger and better things, you can run it your way now. I’m in the UK and only have a very small company but if I can ever help in any way let me know.

Just saying there's a bit of thanks going out to you guy's... I bought the Simington after watching you with big Mike ... bought a barker box off Gordy ...got schooled up on square ground ... Gordy made me 2 disc's for it and made a God chain ... on my MS460 it just smashes my MS660 ..its just the scariest thing ... seasoned woodsman go "I've never seen anything like that saw cut " ... now If I get that max flow ..but don't think I really need it ... who would have thought I'd ever say that. Now my 880 thats another story ... 35+% faster through the stump I think Thanks Jake

Great video. I love when you explain things like why the water was coming out and how it was two trees that never fully fused. Cottonwoods smell nasty when cut and they are brittle. Kind of dangerous to climb if you're not careful. There was a lot of moss on the bark too. I would have loved you to talk more about the approach to felling such a large DBH tree. It's hard to line up the back cut with the face cut. You pros make it look easy but it isn't. Thanks!
